Compact Flash reader for PC Card Slot

2004-05-18 Thread Timothy J. Luoma
Has anyone used a Compact Flash card reader that fits in the PC Card Slot
of a Powerbook?

Can anyone recommend one to use (or avoid, for that matter)?

I have two, a Lexar and a Sandisk and I can't see the difference between
them.

Is it faster than a USB reader?

Well, my Kodak CF/PC Card adapter is literally and figuratively golden for me.
Not a lick of trouble either on my Wallstreet II PDQ or my ThinkPad 600E.

I think these are pretty simple electrically, because basically there is an
IDE controller onboard the Compact Flash card. On other kinds of Flash, like
Memory Sticks, SD/MMC, SmartMedia and so on, there is no controller,
therefore the adapter has to be a bit more sophisticated. Probably a generic
card will serve you well.

I have a PC/Cardbus card question of my own, but I will ask it in another
message.

Take care,
Michelle
