Jeff Hubatka said: most people believe that the size of the G5 and heat sink necessary precludes that from going into the current Powerbook. Perhaps so, but IBM had a slower G5 version for portables already when the G5s were introduced in 2003. I'm not sure if improved versions of that chip could fit in a Alu type shell of course, but they did have the processor already. A 1.5 or so Ghz powerbook G5 may be a quite interesting prospect compared to the PB G4 variety. however, I'm not holding my breath. My next step is a 1Ghz Titanium if I can find a fair price. -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... I've gathered that a G5 PowerBook is a long way off. What do you think will replace the above PowerBooks? End of Life?
Oops. Here's more from LEM/Charles Moore's article: In addition, Asustek will also start shipping iBook G5 notebooks to Apple in the second quarter of this year. And PowerBook G5, Quanta Computer, 30k-50k/month, 2Q 2005. I'm skeptical. I don't think a PowerBook G5 is that close to production, let along an iBook G5. A typo perhaps? Or has there been a breakthrough in cooling the G5 for laptop use that Apple and IBM haven't been letting on? I found this at http://www.lowendmac.com/bookrev/05/0121.html What do you think?
