Excruciatingly slow printing in OS X
I cannot believe how s-l-o-w printing to my Epson Stylus Photo 870 printer is. I've got a 400 MHz TiBook, 512 MB of RAM, Mac OS 10.2.3, and a fast 20 GB IBM hard drive (one of the 5400 rpm models - zoom). Under OS 9, the Stylus would pop out one page after another. Under OS X, it stops for a long time between sheets. Probably takes 4 times as long to print a multiple page job. Any suggestions on how this might be improved? Thanks! I am using a photo stylus 1200 and downloaded all the new drivers off of epson for it. It prints just as fast as OS9 but I do not have the ability to change to all the paper sizes and high end printing as in OS9. I downloade gimp print but have not have had a chance to use it. can't clean the heads as in OS9 either so I switch back and forth. Do you have the most recent drivers form Epson? I see that their released the most recent driver in November of last year. (It says 10.0-10.1 only, however my Epson Photo 820 runs fine with the driver that says 10.1.3-10.1.5 only.) I had big troubles with Epson 820's back when I was in 10.1 with the Print Center crashing, but in Jaguar things are better. How silly of me to assume that because OS X recognized the printer that it had the right drivers installed. I downloaded Epson's drivers, installed them (what a process!), restarted the TiBook (grr), and am printing nearly as fast as I used to in OS 9. Thanks!
