No problem putting a Superdrive in. I'd suggest a slot-loading one, so that
if you move to a G4 in the future you can take the Superdrive with you. As
to models, the Panasonic UJ slot-loading drives are the way to go: UJ-815 is
a 2x burner, UJ-825 is 4x (also does DVD+R), the UJ-835 is 8x (also DVD+R
and Dual Layer disks) and I believe the UJ-845 is out now too (I think still
8x, though maybe expanded Dual Layer support). Prices have fallen, though
not proportionally, i.e. the different models tend to be similarly priced
online (Euro 120-150), therefore you might as well go for a UJ-835, which
I've seen as low as Euro 115.

Re: Lombard superdrive

2005-02-15 Thread Andrew
The 835 is only the way to go if you don't need a Region Free firmware update,
which
is not available yet on the 835 (not sure about 825). The 815 has region free
firmware and a backwards flasher to region locked (for warranty repairs so they
can't
blame the region hack).

This is the one dissappointment I had with my new PowerBook, I can no longer
use it
to watch my region 3 DVDs.
