Outgoing mail password
I'm having trouble getting Mail to send messages. I believe (but don't know) that it's because my ISP (Earthlink) made changes to the outgoing mail server settings. Evidently they made these changes a month ago, but I just started having trouble in the past day. I changed the settings as instructed, but still cannot get the server to accept more than one message at a time. Anyone on Earthlink know the secret to getting this to work, or is there some other problem that I don't know about? Peter -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: Outgoing mail password
I've had some smtp password problems recently, but not with Earthlink. I found that turning off my local router and restarting it so that it had a different DHCP ID address solved the problem. Running Tiger with Comcast and a wireless Buffalo AirStation router. J On Sep 24, 2005, at 9:49 AM, Peter Saint James wrote: I'm having trouble getting Mail to send messages. Peter Hi: If you are using smtpauth.earthlink.net, check Mail Preferences Accounts and look for the Earthlink account. Click on the server settings button. Using smtpauth.earthlink.net as your outgoing mail server will require a password for X Mail to send mail. Make sure that the password is there and that you have the proper server port , which may vary (but may possibly be 587), but I cannot be sure. If you can, try and chat with an Earthlink support person. I lost the ability to E-mail and found that there support people were surprisingly knowledgeable. dmjh -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Peter EarthLink made some changes months ago, where you had to change the outgoing to smtpauth.earthlink.net in order to make everything work. In the Outgoing Mail Server area, click on the Advanced button and make sure that the MD5 Challenge-Response is selected and your entire email address is in the User Name spot. I see occasional drops, where their servers won't send mail, but I can switch to my own site's servers and that works fine. --- JSH TiBook Trouble is only opportunity in work clothes. (Henry J.
