The only thing I'd say is to make sure you get a UPS. Computers are a
lot more sensitive to power fluctuations than other electronics.

I hope not! That is what I do with both a Wallstreet (300) and a
Clamshell iBook. Been that way for better than two years, and,
except for occaisional oddities (wakes up and then seems to
freeze) there seems to be no problems with either.

My Epson 600 printer & Palm Pilot sync cable hot-swap happily (I have
a Wallstreet so they have to share the printer/modem port - unplug,
plug, unplug, plug, argh!)

If it's anything like my PB 1400, I could sleep plug and unplug ADB stuff,
and serial was a no-sleeper. SCSI, however, was a slightly different matter.
I believe I could plug in a SCSI device while sleeping, but if I tried to
unplug it while sleeping, on wakup, it would cause all sorts of problems,
forcing a reboot in an ugly manner. I would never unplug SCSI without
shutting down, but you might try plugging in while sleeping. BTW, I think I
used Silverlining to mount items plugged in while sleeping (and unmounting
before sleeping didn't help.)

No. Definitely not SCSI, serial would probably not work.

As a rule, the only safe hot-pluggable connections are USB and Firewire.

Serial can be done safely, in that you don't risk damaging your
hardware, but more often than not you confuse whatever's got the serial
port.

Just wondering if it's the same as when it's shut off. I was thinking
of my digital camera (serial port) or any SCSI devices.
