Strange Riddle.

2004-02-07 Thread invicta
Hello All,

Got my 17 PowerBook a few days ago and wanted to play with the
TechTools de Luxe CD that was supplied with AppleCare. It appeared on
the desk top, I could open it but when I restarted with C it started to
make the usual driver noises but stopped after about 1 minute with a
blue Screen. Every attempt ended the same way whereas my Flattop 15
iMac had no problems arriving at the working stage. Then I tried my DW
v.3 same situation, not finalizing installation from C. Talked and
exercised for close to an hour with the AppleCare Helpdesk, no
solution. Both CD's work allright on both my flattop aswell as my
wife's iMac SE.

They proposed to replace TechTool so I said what about DW. Now I'm
stuck and cannot use either of these CD's on my PowerBook for good
housekeeping. Has anybody encountered such a situation and what would
be the solution.

Greetings, Andre.

Could be the drive in the PowerBook itself. On booting, the drive has to
read the boot tracks which is not exactly the same than when it appears on
the desktop after you already booted.

elder days n.: The heroic age of hackerdom (roughly, pre-1980); the era of
the PDP-10, TECO, ITS, and the ARPANET. This term has been rather
consciously adopted from J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy epic The Lord of the
Rings. Compare Iron Age; see also elvish and Great Worm.

actually those CDs won't work in the newest machines. The new
machines require 10.2.6 or so to boot and the TTD and DW CDs only have
~10.2.3 on them.

if you contact Alsoft, i believe they are providing updated CDs. the
applecare agent should have known about the TTD CD not working - if
they don't already have an updated CD available, they should shortly.

I have a 15 PowerBook G4, and the same situation. It shipped with
10.3, and that is the minimum OS it needs to boot.
You do need to get the new CDs (from AppleCare for TechTool Deluxe, and
from Alsoft for Disk Warrior).
