Re: Using SCSI serial devices with Pismo

I had a problem receiving the digests for a day, so I've had to go to
the archives and cut and paste to reply to the responses to my original
post.

I'm not networked nor do I have AirPort. I'm looking for the
simplest and least expensive approach. I am definitely not technically
inclined. A screwdriver in my hand is a weapon of mass destruction. :

I've used the Orange Micro firewire/scsi adapter with mixed

finally gave in and got rid of my scsi peripherals a while back.
The
firewire/scsi voodoo thing was too much of a hassle.

You are the second person that has told me about problems with
the Orange adapter. Getting rid of my film scanner is not an option. It
would cost me over $1800 to replace the scanner. What about USB/SCSI
adapters?

I tried USB/SCSI adapters from Belkin and MikroTek
(not the scanner manufacturer of similar name) when I
first bought my Pismo in 2000.

I have a Zip, SyQuest and a scanner on the SCSI bus
and no amount of SCSI voodo ever got them to work
right.

The short version of the story is that I picked up an
8100 (upgraded to G3) for $100 on e-Bay to run the
SCSI peripherals, and have the Pismo and the 8100
connected via ethernet (on a hub) to the DSL and a
Laserwriter 630.

Inelegant...but a solution.

Using SCSI serial devices with Pismo

2002-12-16 Thread Les Riess
I have some older equipment that I would like to use with my Pismo. The
LaserWriter 360 is serial and the film scanner is SCSI. Can I use them
with the Pismo and what would I need additionally to do so? If there is
a choice, would a USB or Firewire adapter be better?

Check Made4Mac on Apple's site - a search for SCSI adapter should do
find some for you. I may want to get one of those (think some were around
$99 for FireWire to SCSI).
