You need to download and install Microsoft Media Player for OS 9. The last version they made for OS 9 was version 7. If the media file contains the codec for Windows Media player 9, then your out of luck. Windows Media Player 9 is for OS X only. But it doesn't hurt to try. It depends on which wmv codec was used. If it was encoded in the newer wmv 9 codec you'll have to use windows media player for mac. A lot of WMV's play on my Mac with 9.2, but I've noticed that there is less success with the newer generation of WMV movies... sound but no picture. Secondly, you say above you run on OS X and my question was only related to WMP under OS 9. My original point however, was that freeware like VLC or Mplayer in my experience works better and with more versions of WMV. I've seen several live WMVcasts that absolutely did not work with the latest version of MS WMP under OS X, but looked and worked very nice in Mplayer (with some artifacts, to be expected from live casts). And under OS 9, in my experience WMP works very very badly. I don't remember being able to view anything on a G3 machine, but maybe it works on a G4. I suppose this shows some people have WMP working for some files, but I'm 100% sure VLC and Mplayer can do more modern WMV formats. Does WMP on OS 9 even support WMV 9? I think not. Also, when was it last updated? More than 2 years ago!!! If your files are that old, then maybe they can work, but it's absolutely impossible that WMP on OS 9 will play newer versions like WMV9. After years of using Linux I pretty much ignored anything Microsoft, until I discovered Xine could play wmv files. What is the VLC Media Player? Does it have more feature than the WMP? Current version is beta6, but I recommend beta4, as it lacks some of the sync problems with beta5. VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html may be good on a G4, but takes too much resources on a G3 in my experience. Current version is 0.7 I think. Avoid version 0.6. Also, there is the OS X version of Windows Media Player, but guess what app have given me the best results? VLC is a nice alternative. However, it doesn't support the latest Windoze Media 9 codecs. I've already run into plenty of .wmv files that don't play in VLC and only plays in WMP.
