The Orinoco Silver only supports 64 bit WEP. You will have to set your
router to 64 bit WEP or upgrade the card.

You may also have to put a 0x (that is zero x) in front of the WEP key in
the Orinoco Software.

That's exactly right. The silver uses 64 bit WEP encryption and the
gold uses either 64 or 128 bit WEP encryption.

I have read somewhere about a patch (firmware, I believe) that will
supposedly turn a Silver into a Gold card. But I can't vouch for
whether it actually works or not.

Hmmm. I thought that you had to have a Gold Orinoco card in order
to use 128 bit encryption.

I think the Silver is limited to 64 bit or some such.

Same here. Connecting anything running OS X to my home wireless network
is a piece of cake. I have also been able to get both a 3400c/9.1 and a
2400c/9.1 on the network with encryption disabled, however, with
encryption enabled I run into the same problem as Debra i.e. I do pick
up the signal (a lot of green bars) but I cannot create a TCP/IP
configuration that isn't self-generated to allow me to get on the
internet.

Wallstreet Orinoco Card wireless

2005-03-17 Thread Debra Platt
I have a Wallstreet running 9.2.2 with an Orinoco Silver card that I am
trying to get on a wireless network. I got a Pismo running Panther to
work, but I am having no luck trying to figure out the problem.

I have a Belkin wireless router with 128 bit encryption selected. It
works without any security enabled, but when I enable the 128 and
entered the hex keys, it recognizes the network and I get a signal, but
I can't connect to the internet.

Any ideas?
