Surely, for about the same price, you could get a brand new CDRW module?
Given the track record of those pismo drives, I'd think twice about
paying even $70 for a refurbished one.

I shall now eat humble pie :) DVDROM/CDRW drives like the Sony CRX820E
do seem to be nearer the $100 mark, which I suppose makes $70 look
rather better if you want something that preserves the look of your Pismo.

Given the track record of those pismo drives, I'd think twice about

Well, I think you've been quite lucky.

(btw sorry if my original response was rather abrupt; reading it back
now it comes across as somewhat tetchy!)

Re: dvd for pismo

2005-10-05 Thread Ed Zelinsky

I try to pass on anything that I come across relating to parts for the
G3 Pismo and Lombard- both of which I have and like to use. I have an
extra DVD module and an an extra Zip module that I picked up really
cheap (compared to what they cost when they were first offered!)

Now I need to replace the keyboard in my Lombard and was told that
there were a few available on ebay- is there any other alternative
place to go for a replacement or is ebay the best choice?

I've only ever bought 1 thing on ebay and it was in lousy shape so I'm
skittery about it...- it's such a pain to return things

2005-10-05 Thread Steve Fuller

Ed,

I was going to buy a keyboard for our Lombard off of ebay. However, I
found one used for the same amount from someone that i knew.
Personally, for the $25 I've seen them go for on ebay, I think they'd
work fine. Other places still want $100 for them.

LOL!

A brand-new, compatible super drive, which includes two-layer writing,
can be had for $105 or a tad more.

None will accept the old bezel, though.

Hi James

I was able to boot up and install from an OS 10.2.3 DVD on my Pismo.
Worked great.
