I have not had to make any hinge repair for my Ti867 but I have

A guy in Iceland posted some pics of his repair at < www.photo.is>.
And O'Grady's web site had some pics with discussion in March 2002 <

I don't know if these are still available or if they are useful. If
you can not find them let me know off list and I can try to send them

Pretty tricky operation.
I replaced a hinge by peeling the side of the screen open (just the
border) and took out the broken pieces. screwed a new hinge in and
knocked carefully the peeled border back. It is a little-bit bubbled
now, but works great. Use a heavy glue to keep the frame together and
you've just saved a lot of money.
Good luck.

Re: Installing new Tibook Hinges

2003-09-28 Thread Jim Katz
A general comment on Ti-Book hinges. I had a green vertical line problem on
my Ti-400 that got replaced under Applecare by replacing the whole display.
It needed two tries to get it right, and then the lid was very tight and
hard to close. a couple of weeks later one hinge had cracked through and I
headed back for repair again. It is still tighter than when new, and I
expect will fail again. I suspect it is really difficult to get these
hinges aligned and great precision is needed in the installation - don't
just screw it on and expect it to fly forever. (I tried opening and closing
three new ones at a store and only one was smooth and easy even right out of
the box.)
