I just bought a G3/800 iBook with 32MB VRAM and have a weird problem.
It had Panther installed (not in English) and I wiped the HD, made 2
partitions and installed 9.2.2 on one and Panther + 9.2.2 on the other.
9 installed fine in both cases and everything worked okay, but after I
zapped the PRAM and rebuilt the deskop, the desktop on screen turned, and
has remained, small, covering about 2/3 of the screen and sitting right in
the middle. Checked the monitor control panel and it gave me 2 displays,
including an external one: though none was attached. I attached an external
display, which showed up mirrored, but the desktop on the iBook remained
2/3. I then installed Panther and the desktop was normal. Everything also
worked fine with external monitor attached. I then booted back into 9, with
the external monitor attached, and the iBook's desktop filled the whole
iBook screen, plus the external one was okay. I then detached the external
monitor and rebooted the iBook in 9, and the small desktop problem returned.

Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Chris
