why can't I get mail?

2008-12-25 Thread Linda

I just upgraded to OS 10.5.4 on my mirror door tower. When I opened
my mail it asked if I wanted to import or update (I think) anyway, no
problem and everything is up and running.

But my hubby went on his user and his mail is not working. His folders
are there but are all blank. I haven't a clue how to remake his mail.
He will not be happy if we have lost his mail. Any help will be
appreciated!

Try upgrading to 10.5.6 first, and then see if you're offered the Mail
Update 1.0 that was released two days ago?

If that fails, his mailboxes should be located in ~userLibraryMail

iBook 2001 - dead battery

2008-12-25 Thread joplinfan

Hi all and Merry Christmas!

I've got an iBook 2001 dual USB with a very dead battery. The iBook
says No Batteries Available in the battery status meter and no
charging / status lights glow on the battery. The battery never gets
warm.

I want to buy a good battery via Ebay, but want to make sure I'm
dealing with a truly dead battery and not a laptop charging issue. Any
ideas?

Thanks,

At this point, is Spotlight running? making everything sluggish?

See if mds is hogging the cpu with Activity Monitor...

I have no idea what 'spotlight' is or how to use an activity monitor.
Also as an aside I guess I can no longer run OS 9 anymore. I had it

As Diane said above.

I say is there any reason to believe Tiger or Leopard broke Quicken 2007?
Perhaps someone else on list will have a definite answer.

I have only upgraded Quicken twice since the 1990's. Once a free Quicken
upgrade to fix the turn of the century bug. And once again to upgrade to OSX;
that one I got on the swap list for about $10.

Unless you need the latest online banking stuff which I gather you do not need
you may be good with the 2007 version.

I'm running Quicken 2005 with OS 10.3.9. --glen

Power failure-computer won't start

2008-12-25 Thread cheryl

My G4 won't start up. The power went out while I was gone, and when it
came back on, I couldn't get the computer to start. The light on the
button comes on but then it goes out as soon as I take my finger off
it. The monitor and internet box are fine, and right now I'm working
on my old G3. Thank Goddess I didn't get rid of it! I have a surge
protector power strip that's made for computers and peripherals.

So do you think the computer is fried or is it just a fuse or
something? I've had the power go out while the machine was on and it
came back up just fine. This time I had it in sleep mode. I don't know
if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Open door and briefly push the reset button or remove pram battery for
2+ minutes (wouldn't hurt to check voltage on battery while it's out).

Assuming that the G3 is in a different location:

came back on, I couldn't get the computer to start.

  Cheryl

Open door and briefly push the reset button or remove pram battery for
2+ minutes (wouldn't hurt to check voltage on battery while it's out).

Assuming that the G3 is in a different location:
Also try pulling power cord for 5 minutes. If other items not working on
strip or same wall outlet check breaker and power at wall outlet.

Another step would be to start unplugging devices, does the same
 keyboard/mouse work ok on G3?

They are proud of this one.
I bet I can find one cheaper, I'll look around some more.
