Re: Mail.app backup?

2009-08-18 Thread gifutiger

Greetings ( + )!( + )

Jeff if you don't have Mail Scripts 2.9.1 you should obtain a copy.
The file is located on the Mac Home Page under aamann along with
other useful utilities.

http://homepage.mac.com/aamann/

It contains scripts for:
01. Add Addresses…
02. Archive Messages…
03. Change SMTP Server…
04. Create Rule…
05. Filter Sent Messages
06. Open Mailbox
07. Open Message
08. Remove Duplicates…
09. Schedule Delivery…
10. Send all Drafts

All of the scripts are based on the Mac Unix system.

OT? Cosmopod

2009-08-18 Thread Dan Auerbach

Hi all. This question may be OT... forgive me if it is, but I know I
get an answer here...

During the last few hours, whenever I open Safari, I get a dialog box
asking if I want to download Cosmopod. The box has the Safari logo
but I'm doubting that it's an Apple item. I looked it up and it's a
remote desktop app. I'm wondering if this is legit in how it was
enabled as a popup box. When I open Safari, my default page is a
custom webmail page I created with out any advertising or outside
feeds except certain email.
Anyone know about this app?

Cosmopod is a Safari plug-in that downloads flash and other media
files from web pages and converts them to iPod-compatible .m4p
files...it's a VERY useful plug-in. http://www.cocoamug.com

If you're getting that pop-up you must have, at some time, installed
it; it displays a dialog asking if you want to update it when it's
updated, and 'check for updates' is checked in the Cosmopod prefs.
Find the installer (or download it again) and click on the Uninstall
button.

As I said, it's an excellent plug-in; it was a key bit letting me move
to Safari entirely from Firefox. well worht the 17 or so it cost me at
the time (It's priced in euros, I don't remember what the exchange
rate was at the time)

G5 Printing Problem HP LaserJet 4

2009-08-18 Thread Kris Tilford

I'm having a printing problem on my G5 w/10.5.8 and HP LaserJet 4
printer attached via a USB-parallel adapter connection. The printer
has worked fine with identical setup for several years.

Things I've done:

Deleted and re-added the printer in Printing Fax preferences.

Checked that CUPS was running.

Rebooted the System (several times).

The symptoms are always the same, I press Print and get a window
saying the Printer is Paused. If I hit the Resume Printer I get
Printer is Ready, but the job is stopped. I press Resume button
(for the job) I get a message Operation Not Possible: client-error-
not-possible. If I delete the job while the Printer is Ready and
then print again, this causes the printer to pause again, so it's a
vicious circle.

The CUPS page http://127.0.0.1:631/ loads normally, but if I press
Manage Printers (http://127.0.0.1:631/printers) the page gives the
Spinning Beachball until finally it times out with and error page
saying the server unexpectedly dropped the connection.

If I use the Terminal command lp -info, I get the reply bus error.

I thought perhaps there was a problem with the USB-Parallel adapter,
but the correct kext is loaded, and the adapter (a Prolific PL-2305)
is shown in System Profiler as working.

I've checked the driver for the printer several times, and repaired
permissions just in case. Nothing seems to work.

I'm out of ideas. Anyone?

Had the same symptoms a week ago here. Turned out the LaserJet was
upset - paper jam and toner low at the same time. I cleared the jam,
tilted the toner, then had to power-cycle the printer to get things
working again.

No idea if that will help your situation... :)

Re: G5 Printing Problem HP LaserJet 4

2009-08-18 Thread ThisOldMacSupport
We had the same thing happen with other Laserjet USB models after the most
recent OS update which brought our machines from OS 1056 up to 1058 - a
newer printer driver set loaded as one of the separate/named updates.

Our workaround was to
1. un-install the Laserjet (delete the printer completely)
2. Download the older HP laserjet driver set for MacOSX
3. Apply the old drivers then add the printers back to the machines which
were malfinctioning
4. Igornore update the next time the Printer Driver update was offered in
the Apple Software Updater

Note - this weird behavior only manifested ont he HP Laserjets we have the
utilize the USB connection instead of the standard jetdirect port. Our
JetDirects all continued to work as expected with the update applied as is.
