It is rarely a good idea to download software from anywhere other
than its official repository. Failing to do so is how people got
infected with the trojan, burried in the pirated iWorks, back in
January.

Like all things iTunes, start at

Click on the "download" button. Scroll down, past the Requirements
section. Notice that iTunes 9 is for PowerPC G4 or better - so click
on the "G3 Mac Users" link. That will take you to an official page
that offers version 8.2.1.

Any place online that still offers a download of 8.2.1? I found 8.2 at
http://en.kioskea.net/telecharger/telecharger-241-itunes-for-mac
But no 8.2.1 oldapps.com is defunct on iTunes.

I myself have not yet updated iTunes 9 but I might be soon, today I got my
weekly apple email and they had some new tv shows for free and I wanted to
get them but couldn't because I don't have the latest iTunes. So it looks
like to buy anything from the iTunes store you have to have the latest
software.

memory placement

2009-09-25 Thread Al boone
I have a power mac G5 2.0 and was wondering if it make any difference where
you place different memory sizes. I have 2x512 installed first and then I
added 2x1gb for a total of 3gb. Will it make any difference if I move the
2x512 in the first slots or not? TIA, elbert.

iTunes 9 is slower on my Mac's, but I notice that it starts up much
faster than the previous version.

This means your problem isn't the video, it's your network connection.

That's the difference between Youtube (and, I'd expect other streamed
video to be as slow, like previews at Apple's QT site.)

For youtube the solution is simple: either figure out why your network
is slow, or use something like CosmoPod to download the Youtube videos
to your computer where they'll play back much better.

This is my solution; we've got the basic 1.5 megabit internet
connection at home, youtube vids are horrible on it, but downloaded
they play just fine.

There are similar plug-ins for other browsers, CosmoPod is
specifically for safari
and is well worth the $15 or so it costs
(it's priced in euros, today it's $13.50)

iTunes 9 is slow on ALL Macs, regardless of their speed, but overall
not that much slower than previous releases. If you need the latest
store features, get it. Otherwise it's probably worth sticking to
8.2.1 for now.

iTunes 9 on a G4

2009-09-25 Thread Lawrence David Eden

Listers,

I am running a Dual 500 MHz PowerPC G4 with 2 GB of RAM, but I have
yet to download the latest iTunes. I recall a discussion on this
List regarding iTunes 9, that included some complaints about iTunes 9
being slow on older Macs.

What is the final verdict on iTunes 9?

Larry
