Good info. I have a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro ME, and was wondering if the
cooling fan ever fails, will I get a similar warning?

No - the warning is just for the 12v power connection to the card.
However, the fan is easy to replace or lubricate if any problems arise and
usually gives an early warning by becoming noisy.

Radeon 9000

2010-12-19 Thread John Carmonne
Does any one know if a Radeon 9000 Pro video card out of a G4 MDD will run in a
G4 Cube?
Would there be an advantage over a Radeon 7500 on the same Apple 20 cinema
display?

RJ 45 Aggravation Update

2010-12-19 Thread smac0031
I finally got this work. Why this didn't work the first time or any of
the other times, I don't know.

Instead of cutting across cable with a utility knife I cut the
insulation parallel with scissors and then cut the insulation away
without taking a chance with scoring the individual wires. Then I made
sure I did the wires a pair at a time, brown, orange, green and blue.

The only problem I have is the line going to my TIVO. When I did the
test #7 and 8 were dead. I was going to quit with the whole thing but
I plugged the line into the TIVO and the pilot light on the adapter
came on. The TIVO is back on the internet and is fully functional.
Beats me.

How many of the pairs does RJ 45 use?

Anyway, the installation looks neat. The other main line I use works
with all four pairs like its supposed to.

It worked because it is probably just using pairs 12, and 36. It
sounds like bad or cheap plugs. We had a problem like that at a school
in central Texas. It sometimes took 4 or 5 times to terminate a cable
correctly because the plugs were faulty. The outer sheath of the cable
should be about 1/2 inch back from the end of the wires. The outer
sheath has to go up into the plug and be crimped inside it for stress
relief. The cable's, not yours. Peace, Dennis

It will work but you will need to unscrew the metal backplate in order
to make it fit in the Cube. If the 9000 Pro has a fan you might need
to replace the fan with a smaller fan. It will give you better video
than the 7500.

The 9000 Pro in my MDD does not have a fan, but does run very hot. I
would take heat into consideration if installing one into a Cube.

Thanks again!
