i'm using the chud version recommended in the above url, and it works

works in Leopard to enable the machine to drop to one processor?

Re: G4 933 Quicksilver

2011-02-27 Thread Geke
Hi Barney,

Maybe you’re gently mocking the listers for always reporting all those
problems? It’s true, the list doesn’t reflect our life with Mac in a
balanced way, but then, I don’t think it’s supposed to.

On the other hand, it could be refreshing from time to time to hear
stories of G3-G5s running smooth, doing what we want them to do,
thusly empowering our lives.

I’ve a Powerbook 1400 with a G3 upgrade and OS 8.6 for simple stuff,
with RAM-Mozilla mainly for email (including this list), MS Word 5,
FileMaker Pro 3. When its RAM gets full, I have to reboot it,
otherwise it’s always ready for a quick check or moment of
inspiration. I have it in my living room, which is possible because it
has no fan and boots from a CF card. I’ve typed an entire (thin) book
on it -- true, part of it with an external ADB keyboard.

Then a GigabitEthernet 2x500 which I use for all other things. It’s
starting to boot a bit slowly now, because I can’t help installing
more and more stuff. Otherwise it’s just there, doing all I want it to
-- sometimes after some coaxing.

Third: a GigE 450MHz (from a Cube) set up as a public computer running
Tiger, with user accounts and browsers in three languages to
accommodate different users. Running everyday with its old 20GB
harddisk, it’s a modest but valued workplace.

I'm considering upgrading my Quicksilver 2002 Dual 1GHz, with a SATA

I put a SATA card in my MDD G4 recently. Card was $50 and the 2TB
drives are now about $75 each. PATA was really limited and expensive.
I remarked in another thread about not understanding a particular
upgrade. Well, even though I own a Mac Pro, the $200 for this upgrade
to the MDD was worth it for me. I use it as a server more than
anything, and the best thing is that I am now getting drives that if
the MDD dies, can be moved into the Pro.

Hm, don't know if the estimates from www.everymac.com are spot
on or not. Just throwing them out there FWIW.

Apple iPod touch (Original) 8, 16, 32 GB Specs
Original Price: US$299, US$399
Est. Current Retail:US$100-US$200
(The original 8 GB iPod touch was offered for US$299, the 16 GB was
US$399, and the 32 GB introduced February 5, 2008 was US$499.)

Apple iPhone (Original/EDGE) 4, 8, 16 GB Specs
Original Price: US$499, US$599*
Est. Current Retail:US$125-US$200
(*The 4 GB version originally was US$499 and the 8 GB version was
US$599. On September 5, 2007, a mere two months after it shipped,
Apple discontinued the 4 GB model and dropped the price of the 8 GB
version to US$399. On February 5, 2008, Apple introduced a 16 GB
configuration for US$499.)

No doubt the smaller device is much more portable. But it's also
slightly more expensive than freeware at least from my perspective.

@John Carmonne, Which of your Macs where you thinking of enhancing to
function as an egg timer? ;-) Just curious.

22 pin power supply

2011-02-27 Thread smac0031
I think I have found a source for a replacement power supply. Does 22
pin mean the number of wires that comes off the power supply?
Otherwise the markings on these power supplies are identical to the
markings on the power supply in my DA.
