I've started doing something along those lines - hitting command-F after entering text, which forces FM to save any changes to the record, so it can execute a search. Then command-B back to data entry. > > Also, FM Pro uses a lot of RAM, and WriteNow may be misbehaving in > using RAM. Is WriteNow 32-bit clean? Could you use another word > processor instead of WriteNow? WriteNow has been 32-bit clean since version 3.0 (I'm using 4.0, which IIRC has had some kind of update applied as well.) Since I switched over to a single USB keyboard and trackball, rather than the daisy-chained pair on ADB, I haven't had a freeze, but it's only a couple of days and I haven't done any heavy data entry lately. Interestingly, the machine seems a bit more responsive - could be my imagination. The Logitech optical USB track ball is way better than my old ADB Kensington, but the cheapie USB keyboard I have is not as nice as the keyboard II. Try openoffice for PPC. If the problems stop then there you go. I'd still try changing the IDE cables first. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. If you haven't removed the heat sink yet, I would forget about it for now and first look into this. FM Pro saves after each record update -- at least it does in version 3. That means it saves when you click on another record than the one you were just editing. So you could try to click away, to a different record, before switching to WriteNow to make FM save the changes to disk. Also, FM Pro uses a lot of RAM, and WriteNow may be misbehaving in using RAM. Is WriteNow 32-bit clean? Could you use another word processor instead of WriteNow? -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. Best possible graphics card for MDD G4?
Hi guys, first time posting! Anyone know what the best possible graphics card a dual 1.42GHz MDD G4 (FW800) can support is? I've seen modded GeForce 7800s available but I have concerns about the power draw in a G4, as I believe the PSU is only rated at 400W. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. Re: B&W G3 Freezes - thanks for the suggestions.
A little bit of thermal paste can go a long way. It does make a huge difference when it comes to cooling. Now, the G3's are perfectly fine without it but, it will ease anyone's mind when it comes to cooling if they may be worried about air flow through the case. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
