Cleans just about anything, including disgusting keyboards. About $4
for a four pack at the Home Despot. HTH

I just did both my (totally gross) Matias TactilePro keyboards with a
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser 
They both look nearly brand new now. A truly amazing product, and not
just for keyboards. They're $3.50 for a four pack at the Home Depot.

I have a Dell 2709W that I bought when I got my new Mac Pro back in
March of '09. Dell had a one day sale for $600 shipped, which is a
price I've not seen since. I am very pleased with the monitor, and it
even worked fine at 1920x1080 with my old PM G5 with a Radeon 9600
64mb video card. I'm not a huge fan of Dell's computers, but their
monitors are first-rate, and generally an excellent value.

Hogwash.

IMO it's high time for Apple to drop PPC support, and I still have a
PowerMac G5. I'm really looking forward to having an OS that can
properly use the Nehalem processors in my new Mac Pro. Leopard is just
a stopgap solution on these machines, and all new ones going forward.

But what is wrong with Leopard? It's a fine OS, and less than two
years old. Think about all the Windows users out there that run XP
(released in 2001) because Vista is so bad. I run Leopard on a maxed
out DP G5 2ghz machine at work, and it's great, and will continue to
be great in my estimation.

My new Mac Pro is really going to love Snow Leopard. I can't wait, and
a very reasonable upgrade price, too.

Suit yourself. I'd rather pay a little more for the genuine article.

And how long did you expect them to keep supporting the PPC
architecture, forever? And it's not like Snow Leopard is substantively
different than "regular" Leopard, it's just optimized for Intel
hardware. Personally, I'm looking forward to a new OS without all that
extra PPC code, and I still have some PPC Macs. I'll just keep running
10.5 on them.

The thing is that the recent speed bump is well worth the extra $100.
It includes a better processor, but more importantly the Nvidia 9400M
integrated graphics, which is far superior to the previous Intel
graphics engine. It's got a bigger hard drive, and a faster system
bus, too.

What about the basic $999 White MacBook? It's the only MacBook that
still has a firewire port, which is very important, to me at least.

I think that buying any PPC-based Mac at this point is of dubious
value. Once Snow Leopard comes out, Apple is officially leaving PPC
architecture behind. Also, you can run Windows on the Intel-based Macs
(if you must), and boot from USB 2.0 devices as well.

I'd go with the White MacBook. Just my $.02.

I just downloaded and installed the update on my Nehalem Mac Pro
8-core, and the 449mb download and install went smoothly. I was really
looking forward to this update because a lot of addresses a lot of the
new architecture in the Mac Pros, along with updated drivers for the
Radeon 4870 video card. I'm installing the 286mb update on wifey's
Aluminum iMac right now.

I just put this one in my PowerMac G5 to replace the failed one that
was in there:



It's bootable, fast, and best of all cheap! I've always had good luck
with Lite-On drives, too.

Time Machine volume on all four Macs in use at home and at work = Peace of Mind.

The best backup software. Period. Nothing even remotely like it on the

Time Machine Rules! Saved my bacon when a catastrophic hard drive
failure happened recently in my 17" MacBook Pro. Didn't lose a thing!

Also gave me an excuse to upgrade to a 500gb drive.

The slot on the motherboard uses standard desktop PC2700 DDR RAM with
a maximum size of 1GB. Here's a good price, especially for Crucial
stick:



The "user-accessible" slot underneath the bottom plate uses PC2700
SODIMM Laptop memory, also with a maximum size of 1GB, so you can max
the memory at 2GB. Here's another good price, also for a Crucial
