Disappearing Ram in Powerbook G4 15inch

2011-03-23 Thread Clmtyne
Not sure what's happening, but I had two profiles set up on my
Powerbook G4 15", and for some reason after switching to the other
user, I noticed that the applications folder had no folders in it. I
thought that maybe my daughter did something funny, but then I open
"About this Mac and saw that there is only 1gig of Ram showing. So
what happened to the other 1 gig stick of Ram? What causes that and is
it common? How do I fix this?

Emac issues and OSX 10.5.8 and Airport Extreme Card

2011-03-17 Thread Clmtyne
This adds on to my last post- Not only am I not able to keep the
Airport Extreme card active once I reboot the system, but I'm having
to reset the date and time every time I reboot the system as well. I
do believe it has something to do with the keychain, but I need to
know how to get the computer to ask if I wish to include this in the
keychain because it will not do this. Please help with these issues.
Thanks

G5 powermac 1.8 single issues

2011-02-02 Thread Clmtyne
i just purchased a g5, 1.8 as well and my problem is simualar to a
past post but different. The machine came with no hard drive, so I'm
booting from a external 60 gig FireWire drive. The system and the
monitor are communicating because every 7 seconds the yellow light on
the monitor blinks when the whtie light on front of the CPU blinks,
but there is no video from the monitor. I tried reseating the ram, and
that seem not to have any affect. Also I noticed the longer the system
was powered on i could hear a fan getting louder and louder, where I
thought the machine was getting ready to take off like a jet engine or
something.
Questions- why am I not seeing video, and upon engaging the button on
front of the system, it never chimes, just powers on and sits there.
So what's up ?

Power Mac G5, and installing OSX 10.5 on external HD

2011-02-02 Thread Clmtyne
I just recently got a Power Mac G5, and the hard drive is missing. So
my idea is to take a external 60gig drive that I have (with Firewire
400) and install OSX 10.5 to be able to test this system. The problem
that I'm having is the installation. What I'm doing is loading the OSX
disk on a Powerbook and after the software examines the disk, it tells
me that I can't install on this disk until I go to Disk Utility to
partician the disk. After doing that it still will not allow me to
install the operating system on the disk. So I need some help with
this one. The disk was set up as Fat something, but I changed it to
Journaled to Partician it. Does that make any difference?

Running Final Cut Pro Studio 3 on a Power PC

2011-01-21 Thread Clmtyne
According to Apple it is not possible to run Final Cut Studio 3 on a
Power PC (G4 or G5), but it will run on a MacBook and MacPro. I have a
friend in Detroit who has a MacBook Pro and she has OSX 10.5.8
installed, and she says that FCS2 runs fine. I'm still using a
Powerbook 1.67 and G5's because It's not feasible to invest in OSX
10.6 and FSC3 yet. Some one please clear this up for me.
