Re: GMail phasing out basic view?

2011-10-17 Thread Paul Cefola
I only run into 'basic view' when I am on travel and dealing with a
hotel with cruddy networking.

You know that with Google Mail, you can choose "basic view" (instead
of the "standard view" which loads slower and has more features).

Just now I discovered that I can't set this basic view as the default,
as I could in the past.
So if you have a slow computer or connection and your Gmail account is
set to basic view, don't click on "standard view" anymore, because
that will change the default and you can't go back!

Actually, my computer&connection are not slow, it's just that I rarely
need the extra features and I hate the wait while that "standard view"
is loading.

The bad feeling I get from this is that it looks like Google is
preparing to phase out the basic view interface altogether.
At the moment, you can still get it by clicking on a button while the
interface is loading.

Or by changing your bookmark to https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=html
At least, that's what someone on the forum writes. It doesn't work for
me.

Re: G5 Constant HD activity

2012-03-19 Thread Paul Cefola
Does such constant HD activity happen with external HD's attached to
Windows laptops?

John,

If it is your "Spotlight" then click on the "Spy Glass" in the upper
right corner and you should see a message that "Spotlight" is
indexing your system. If you have more than one drive then the
message will say which drive is being indexed.

This is going on constantly, for days (I may have just not paid
attention before, maybe it;s new), and when I check SPOTLIGHT it
merely hows a blue bar with a blank white window.

I have some questions regarding a Power Mac G3/266 machine. Is this the
correct group to ask the questions to?
