Re: No Startup, just an endlessly repeating chime

Do you still have it plugged in UPC? May try plugging in wall.
Possible UPC problem... :)

shift-command-option-delete, command-option-o-f, etc.- has no

it just keeps repeating the startup chime. I've had a number of

The computer was connected to a UPC battery backup surge

the time and I was using it; as soon as I saw the UPC alert I
went to

the Apple menu and shut the machine down normally.
The computer is an Intel-based MacPro (1,1) but I am wondering if
anyone ever had a similar problem, say with a G5 running Leopard?

wow. Never had one loop like that. bleh. Power hits.

Reset the pram and nvram.

Try booting with the shift key held down.

If you hold down the option key, does the boot selector come up?

Disconnect all external peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and
display.

Perhaps try disconnecting the internal boot volume/drive, and try
booting on an external?

Could also be the power supply failing, and unable to provide
enough juice to spin up the internal drives, the video card, etc.

Re: Can I CCC a 10.4 from a G4 DA to a G5?

2011-11-04 Thread Roger Hodge
I transfered Tiger from my Quicksilver to my G5 with no problems.
Been running it for about 8 months now...

I know G5s can run 10.5, but we still have classic apps that we run
and I have not been able to get SheepShaver working. Remote
desktopping into a G4 will be a later project.

It is a Dual 2.0 G5. I believe it is the 2004 dual 2.0 with pci-x
slots. (at the price and speed bump from a DA dual 533 and a
Sawtooth 400, I am not being picky on which dual 2.0). My plan is
to install the HD for the G5 into my DA (with a SATA card) and just
clone my DA HD onto it. Yes, I know a fresh install is best, but I
don't have the time or organization to do that here.

Any flaws?

Thanks,
Len

No it doesn't. But it is handy to keep it all together in case you
need to replace it.

Can all of this be done by putting the 10.6 Install DVD into a G4
PowerBook, or do I need to do these steps on my Intel MacMini and
transfer the files with a USB stick to the G4 PowerBook?

Do it on the Mini with the USB stick.

Time to replace it and I am wondering what folks are using these

I've been to the OWC site and see some options for newer drives,
but they only function as CD/DVD-rom when connected internally with
appropriate adapters. I can live with that, but would appreciate
any recommendations from the group.

G5’s use SATA drives and optical drives. QS systems use ATA.
Different interface.
