Re: data transfer so sllooowwww on G4 MDD?

I bought a new Real USB 2.0, 3 port (i said 4) card from Computer Renaissance
for $19.99. It says it's for Windows 98 threw XP. No Mac listed anywhere. But
it was plug-n-play. I just don't use the driver c.d. (it's for windon't) that
came with it.
Tested it, 7.5gb in 3 mins or so (unlike 8 hours for USB 1.0)... S
I don't think it's the card, it's the drivers. I'm using tiger 10.4.11 all
updated. In about this Mac, it's seeing as a Hi-Speed USB.

This is interesting. This card doesn't designate it works with Macs or not. Can
you put in any USB 2.0 card and it will work? If this is the case what cards
besides video cards are Mac Specific. I guess controller cards would be as well.

It's wired with home sharing on, but I just want to have it as a back up on
other computers.
Got my 4 port Real USB 2.0 PCI today, $19.99 new from computer store, and
installed it in my G4 MDD. 7.5gb's took like 3 mins, or so (not 8 hours as with
USB 1.0).
Woot Woot!!!

If it's wired, share the folder over the network. Even with overhead,
AFP should be faster than USB 1.0. Or get a firewire drive ;)

Also, Other World Computing has a 4-port USB 2.0 card for $22.
Compatible with all G4 Powermacs.

Make sure the USB 2.0 card you get is truly 2.0.
I bought one that said 2.0 compatible, and it was really 1.0. Stupid
mistake on my part.
Cards are cheap and worth getting for this or for iPod connection.

Welcome to the family

2010-03-23 Thread akfreeridemtber
I like to welcome to my family to go along with my G5 and Mac Mini, two G4's.
Both dual and one is a MDD. Had to reset passwords on both, plus open firmwear
password on the MDD. Thank goodness for the forms. With the help of the forms
and god, "Get R done".
