Insert the DVD into the computer
Open - applications - utilities - disk utilities
highlight DVD  -click on new image on upper bar
choose location to save - click create
it takes a few minutes to see DVD on desktop with the file ext. of .dmg
Go to imovies and double click the .dmg file to mount it.

1.  I converted a 1:37 long home video VHS tape to DVD with my Sony DVD/VHS
dubbing deck.

2.  Tested perfect in my DVD player, or my computer's DVD player.

3.  I then converted the DVD video to a m4v file on my desktop with Handbrake.
(Last time I will ever use Handbrake on my G4 PowerBook for anything longer
than 5 min.)

4.  Tried to import into my Final Cut Pro v6 and got an error message (can't
remember exact words).

The m4v file plays fine through iTunes v10.6.1, or with Quicktime Player v7.7,
but it will not import into my educational copy of Final Cut Studio 2 with it's
included Final Cut Pro v6.

Since the educational copy of Final Cut Studio 2 is supposed to be exactly the
same as the full version, with the one exception that it can never be upgraded,
I can't figure out why my file is not importing into Final Cut Pro v6.  Any
ideas? I am a complete Noob with Final Cut of any flavor, or any video editing
program on the Mac, except a test video with iMovie, but I want to get started,
so I purchased my Final Cut Studio 2 and now have about 1,200 pages of reading
to do.  Any help from users already familiar with Final Cut Pro would be
appreciated.

Flash on Walgreens JC Penneys

2011-12-05 Thread icanswing
I'm not able to make photo cards on the Walgreen's website.  When I click
CREATE I get a grey screen with the circle going round and round, on and on.  I
get the same thing on JC Penney's site.  If I try to view the item the circle
goes round and round.  I have called both companies and they can't fix it and
don't even try.  Does anybody else have this problem?  It happens on both of my
Mac's a G4 and iMac intel.

Re: I want to get a LCD monitor for my G4

2010-05-11 Thread icanswing
Okay I googled the ATY Rage 28 Pro and it says resolutions up to 1920 x 1440.
I also found out that this was standard video card for the Sawtooth.  I didn't
know I had a Sawtooth until now.  I have 2 connectors so how do you
differentiate between ADC and DVI.  Mine had 10 pins across and 3 down.

How do I find out about my video card? I don't see anything under the
system prefs. I have 2 hookups on the back of my mac. I'm guessing one
 is VGA.

If you drop the door down on your ( I presume G4 ) Mac and have a look
at the side of the card it should have something like Rage Pro or Radeon
7500. That will tell you which card it is.

That is iffy at best. For some reason PCI card manufacturers don't seem
to want to mark their cards. Some cards are identified but most aren't
directly. Sometimes you can tell if you know what to look for.

You can also go into About This Mac , then More Info, then click on
 the Devices and Volumes tab.

This is a better method.

That depends on the OS Version. If it's Leopard at least you can click
on Graphics / Displays under Hardware and usually get more direct info
(it will tell you what model of card by name).

That will list all the cards you have in your Mac.
 Mine is
 Slot-2
 Card Type display
 Card Name ATY,BlueStar
 Card Model ATY,RV100
 Vendor ID 1002
 Device ID 5159
 ROM# 113-85505-110
 Revision 0
 Card (Video) Memory 32 MB

which is basically an ATI Radeon 7000 32mb card

If you still don't know what card you have at this point plug the Vendor
ID and Device ID into a Google search (the two 4 digit numbers with a
space in between) and see what pops up.

The only thing you have to watch is that your video card can output

If you have something like a radeon 7500 32mb which can handle 1024

  will not drive the monitor.

 A 32MB Radeon 7500 will display 1920x1080, and also 1920x1440
 2048x1536.

Check the specs of both before you get the monitor.

This is good advice. It's just a bad example. I enjoy these kind of
self-referencing errors, it's a type of schadenfreude, the old pot
calling the kettle black. You should have taken your own advice and
checked the Radeon 7500 specs first:

Well , I was relying on my memory Chris which obviously needs the memory
firmware update !
This is good advice. It's just a bad example.
Yeah, the advice still stands and it is a bad example , but I'll check the
specs next time.
The upshot is to check that they are compatible though unlike a mate of mine
who bought a new 24 Dell monitor to plug into his Cube and it wouldn't
recognise it until he upgraded his videocard to an nVidia 6200.

Can you run all three versions of ilife on your computer as separate programs
or does the newer version upgrade the older version?
I'm wondering because iweb 6 can be used for ebay listings but ilife 9 has

Need help with setting up G4 for internet

2010-03-02 Thread icanswing
Hi list,
I have a new imac.  Now I want to set up my G4 in another room.  My G4 doesn't
have an airport card and I don't believe it would work anyway cause the new
imac has airport extreme and the G4's airport card is just an airport.   I was
told by maczones that I should use a router and they suggested Netgear RP614NA
Platinum 4port cable dsl router.

Does this sound correct?  The router is about $50.00.  Everything is so
expensive

Thanks
Paula

The router is OK, however I would use a USB wireless n dongle. The AirPort b
card is real slow unless all you want is e-mail and surf the net, downloads are
just a little quicker than dialup.
but that's just me.
