Re: Browser g4

2014-01-13 Thread Geke
When you double-click on a music file, you want not iTunes to open and play it,
but QuickTime?
If this is what you want to do, that's easy:
-In the Finder, do Get Info on a file of the concerned type.
-There is a section Open with... in there, where you can select the
application you want to open it with.
-Activate the checkbox Do this with all files of this type before clicking OK.

(I'm not at my Mac right now, so it might be slightly different...)

An alternative way is to drag the file's icon onto QuickTime's icon (e.g. in
the dock) to open it.

You didn't write what kind of music file you want to play, or what happens when
you try to open iTunes by itself, what messages come up for example. All that
is very useful for troubleshooting! Anyway, let us know how it goes.

iTunes version 10.6.3 was the LAST FINAL version of iTunes that runs on a PPC
Mac under 10.5.8.

Toss your iTunes into the trash, download a new copy of 10.6.3 here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1575?viewlocale=en_USlocale=en_US

If this won’t open, you’ll need to probably reinstall your OS.

Start by doing a Safe Boot to rebuild the cache files, then reboot again
normally. Try iTunes. If it still won’t open, reinstall the 10.5.8 Combo Update
(first run Disk UtilityVerify Disk (repair if verify fails) and Repair
Permissions). If after reinstalling the 10.5.8 Combo Update you STILL can’t
open the new iTunes 10.6.3 you’ll have to do a complete OS reinstallation from
your install disc.

Re: Browser g4

Now it seems adobe flash player is the problem. i cant open itunes or play
music from G4.

That's right, Ten4Fox doesn't support plugins. From their wiki:
http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/wiki/PluginsNoLongerSupported
---
As Mozilla adds more interactive HTML5 features to Firefox, many of these
features will appear in 10.4Fx, superseding the need for plugins.
---
What can I use to replace Flash and QuickTime right now?

There will still be some content you can't view without a Flash plugin in
the browser. Some of it can be worked around.

   - TenFourFox can open some videos in QuickTime Player directly using the
   QuickTimeEnablerhttp://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/wiki/QuickTimeEnabler.
This is compatible with many HTML5 video and audio files, and YouTube.

   - For YouTube videos in particular, the free
MacTubeshttp://macapps.sakura.ne.jp/mactubes/index_en.htmlapplication allows
you to view YouTube video in multiple resolutions and
full-screen. It is also more efficient at playback on older Macs. Please
   support this excellent application.
   - If you have a fast-enough G4 or G5, you can also view many YouTube
videos using TenFourFox's built-in HTML5 WebM video support, which
*is*supported. To do so, visit
http://www.youtube.com/html5 and opt in to the HTML5 trial. This will
set a temporary cookie so that available embedded videos and videos on
YouTube will be presented to you in native HTML5 video, if available. While
you do not need a YouTube account to use HTML5 video, the cookie may
periodically expire and require renewal, and not all videos are available
   in WebM.

---
You could also try Camino, although it is not supported anymore. I like its
more Mac-like feeling:
