Re: Digital Audio Processor Swap

2010-08-24 Thread Sarge3041969
I got the Mac on Monday, and the seller actually shipped the wrong
one. (Ebay)
The specs on the one I bought were G4 466 Dig Aud, DVD rom, 40gb hd,
512 Mb Ram.
What I got was: G4 533Mhz Dig Aud, CD-rom, 20gb HD, 512Mb Ram, with
Tiger and MS
Office already Installed. I cloned the little drive to an 80Gb 7200 WD
I already had,
added another 100Gb slave, a Dual layer DVD burner, and a 5 port USB
2.0 card,
and another 256Mb of Ram. I have a 2.4 ghz wireless pci card, but I
can't get it to
work for some reason. Any way after it was all said and done, this
little guy really
runs as sweet as honey! I have scrapped the idea of trying to use that
QS Processor.
I may in the future buy one of the OWC upgrade cards for it, but for
right now, I am
happy with it. I haven't had a Mac in a long time, (Color Classic) and
I can't believe
the performance of such a slow clock speed cpu. It could hold it's
own against any
PIII, and probably alot of older PIV's. So thanks for the input, but
If I had run the Mac
first, I wouldn't have even considered needing to get more clock
cycles out of it.

The simplest way to increase speed is to max out memory followed by
replacing the, (if by chance the original Apple), hard drive drive.

You would be surprised on just how much improvement can be had.

Modifying a faster processor from a later machine can open a can of
worms.

Rather than do that, I would just look for a later model of machine
IF that is what you really want.

If you can't get the 733 working, you should at least overclock your CPU to 533
MHz. Mark Sokolovsky/Midnight Rider has instructions, and I posted them on the
IMP blog at: http://impodcast.com
