I have around 6 SanDisk Cruzers of various sizes (they got so cheap,
I couldn't
resist buying them here and there), and all of them work great.

However, the *first* thing I do is to toss the thing onto a Windows
box and use
U3 to *remove* U3 and fully reformat the stick as just a plain old
FAT32 drive.

To remove U3 you'll need to use the special U3 removal program from
Sandisk.

Here's a link to the Mac version:

Here's the Windows version:

Which does not work under 10.5 and there are no plans to update the
program. Also why I recommend against getting Sandisk flash drives.
It's too bad, they make good drives, but an aggressively Mac-hostile
attitude should not be rewarded.

Interesting article on how to secure information on a Mac USB drive,
including free software options:

Bleeping Google, I didn't get the message Steve quoted, about the CMC
stuff. That would be a nifty trick to 'terminate' a lost or stolen
drive, which by definition is beyond your control.

And yet he doesn't mention the simplest of them all: put a rewriteable
encrypted disk image on the thing. Free, built into Disk Utility.
