Thanks!
I'll just leave them in the PII.
At least now I know (roughly) how much RAM it has in it.

Re: Another RAM Question

2008-09-25 Thread Ralph

Howdy,
I went through some SDRAM DIMMs I had as spares and found some similar
chips. They are not exactly the same, but I can almost certainly give
you part of the information about your memory.
The -8 is on PC100 memory modules and that makes sense for two
reasons. 80 nanoseconds plus a little overhead would be right for a 100
MHz bus. And P2 chips only supported 2 bus speeds. Well, other bus
speeds were supported, but depending on the specific chips, there were
two maximum speeds. They were either 66 MHz or 100 MHz. My similar
modules were made by Infineon in Germany. My similar modules are 64 meg
DIMMs and have 8 chips. So, I would guess yours are 32 meg modules.
The largest DIMMs I have seen P2 chipsets support were 128 MEG.
So, I agree with the other assessment. Throw this away and get 256
meg PC133 modules for your G4.
Good luck,
Ralph

I believe the other RAM stick in the PII was a 64M PC100 DIMM
Either way, was just wondering what size this other one is since it is
in the same machine.

99% chance that PII RAM is too old and slow for a G4. It's also likely
a small DIMM since there are only 4 chips total on it. You're wasting
time, the DIMM is likely worth less than 50¢. If you're going to use
the G4 "for real" buy the largest size modules it will take. Ask on
LEM-Swap, buy on eBay used, or use RamSeeker.com for cheapest prices
on new (compare with eBay "Buy It Now" new).

I don't remember offhand.
I have not set up this machine.
I was given this machine and I forgot to ask what amount of RAM it has
(or what size HD)
I was just going through other computers I have sitting around seeing
if I have some RAM I can put into the G4 I am getting (so I don't have
to yank what is in the Smurf as I want to keep it in the network).

What was the "other" module?(meaning the 2nd one that you could
identify?) You just subtract the size of the "other" module from the
total RAM and get the size, and then assume the speed is the same (or
look at the last digits on one of the four chips, they designate the
speed in nanoseconds, which you should be able to convert to a
standard module speed).

I took the RAM out of a PC and was wondering what it is and if it will
work in a G4 I am getting.
I have tried several Google searches with the info I posted and no luck so far.
The reason I asked here was that it was tough to get this RAM out (the

What machine is it? Between the Mac model you have, the total amount
of ram installed and what System Profiler identifies it as, we should
be able to determine what type of ram it is and the size without
opening the case.

It is in a Mac, isn't it?

Re: Another RAM Question

2008-09-23 Thread Stephen Conrad

I asked here because I don't have the RAM out of that machine. It was
a pain to take out and I don't want to remove it again.
