Re: G4 DA processor swap

2009-08-12 Thread Mac User #330250

Hi!

http://homepage.mac.com/josephk/G4_mod.html

If you can put a QS 867 MHz processor on a Gigabit Ethernet mainboard,
anything is possible (with the appropriate tweaking...)

Cheers,
Andreas aka Mac User #330250

Any DA Processor (533, dual 533, 667 or 733) is a simple drop in.

QuickSilver processors will work with the addition of a 12v power
feed. If you are looking at a QS processor, watch out for 733s and
single 800s (and 933 that are speed bumped 733s). These do not have a
L3 cache and run measurably slower than a slightly faster processor
with a L3 cache.

I have run 800, 867 and 933 QS processors in DAs (originally 533s)
with no problems. I had no luck with 2 different dual 1 GHz, but
other members have had no problems with these in a DA.

All those were available options for the Digital Audio and they will
all work if they were pulled from a Digital Audio. The 733 MHz
processor was also used in the Quicksilver G4s but it needs an
additional 12V power wire. You can also use a 933 MHz processor from a
Quicksilver G4 if you add a 12V line in to it.
