Greetings

I just came across this and thought that it might help in solving your
problem.

 at:http://macosg.com/group/viewtopic.php?t=800

I discovered that my ATI Radeon 9800Pro Mac Edition is somehow
 causing my issues.

It may be too early, but the following full setup now seems to be
 working:

 AGP Slot1 nVidia Geforce 4MX
 PCI Slot2 empty
 PCI Slot3 M-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496
 PCI Slot4 Sonnet Tango USB1/FW400
 PCI Slot5 Rosewill NIC 10/100/1000

I may try upgrading now to 10.5.6.

One lingering problem: on Restart, the video doesn't come on. Cold
Boot, things appear fine. I tried running some of OnyX (latest
version's Scripts), but I'm wondering what else I might try to
resolve this issue. Not too sure about the other OnyX
 capabilities ... cache clearing?

 Suggestions welcomed.

For my ATI Radeon 9800Pro Mac Edition in my QS 2002 Dual 1GHz:

Thanks, Harry. AFAIK, that's only for 10.3 and 10.4:

Under 10.5, I believe I need to just use Apple's drivers?

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

As far as I can tell under 10.3,4 or 5 you only need the Apple provided
drivers. The ATI installed drivers add control for additional features
such as screen rotation and some control for composite video out.

May or may not be true, I'm using 10.5.6 on my G4 Sawtooth 1999 model
and if I don't have this installed I have problems especially when the
platform goes to sleep.

Upon wake-up the display is completly hashed and nothing is readable.

Best regards,

Harry

Have you obtained the ATI drivers from http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.HTML
and installed them so that they will load at boot time?
I had a simular problem as you have until I installed them in my G4
Sawtooth

Actually, for 10.5, I believe they recommend using the drivers
supplied via Apple in the OS X. What about Tiger? Maybe I need their
drivers there? ...

The card isn't re-initializing properly. Pull everything from the
PCI and see if that makes a diff.

 Dan.

After much shifting here and there, I believe I have a couple of issues:

1. The Rosewill is a bit flaky under 10.5. It has the 8169 chipset,
but may not be directly supported by the OS X 10.5. Rosewill supplies
drivers for 8, 9, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4. They are now investigating
10.5 ...

2. My Sonnet card may have gone bad. It really throws a kink in
things under 10.5 ...

3. The M-Audio 2496, might be working ... but along with the flaky
Rosewill and Sonnet under 10.5, it appears to be causing the problems.

4. The ATI might be working ... might be being buried by the issues
along with combo-of-flaky PCI cards. The nVidia Geforce 4MX works
fine alone ... I might test the ATI alone as well ... but am guessing
it will be ok.

Since a separate Tiger partition showed promise for all cards
concerned, I am now reinstalling a fresh Tiger partition, up to
10.4.11, and will continue along that line for now. As a musician, I
need to move ahead, and wait for 10.5 to become musically more
stable ... musician friendly. I can use 10.5.4 to run Time Machine by
removing its Network connectivity and removing the M-Audio Drivers
for now.
