I'm going to go way out on a limb here and assume the Apple website is correct,
and the International Business Times article from September 10th is wrong :-/

Len, I can't see it. :-(

I'm using OSX 10.4.11. TextEdit version 1.4.
I enlarged the window's icon size to 128 (the max), I zoomed in using
Ctrl-scroll, but it wasn't enough to read the text (obviously, 128 pixel is
not enough to fit in a page of text).

What do you mean with "Zoom the Text Edit icon"?
Am I missing something?

I really love easter eggs... :-)

I copied TextEdit to an otherwise empty folder, changed the folder to View as
Icons and then zoomed to the maximum (I used the trackpad gesture but you can
use the zoom control in the lower right).

For those who haven't been able to see this, try this method:

Get Info on the textedit app
In the upper left corner, click on the icon. Command-c to copy
Open a image editor, paste it in (I used paintbrush).
See the text in all it's glory.

What it looks like in Snow Leopard (which allows 512x512 pixel icons)

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life.
Don't be trap by dogma, which is living with the results of other

Greetings,

Oh so true, it's been a long time since I've seen Steve Jobs in
downtown Los Gatos, and now for sure there will never be another

If you haven't seen it go to the LSJU (Leland Stanford Junior

gave.

The strangest thing though is that I haven't seen or read any comments

Nope. I copied it in Photoshop and Freehand, and I got just the small

Okay, Get Info "Text Edit".
Click on the icon in Get Info and copy.
Open a graphics program like Fireworks and begin a new file.
Paste your copied icon to the new file (and in the case of Fireworks you
don't need to zoom in at all!).
You can now zoom in to read the letter.

I did it with both Photoshop CS3 and Freehand MX (so, both a bitmap and a
vectorial app), and in both cases I just got the small bitmap icon (30 x 30
pixel).
I'm afraid that's a limit of OSX 10.4. It's likely all of you have newer OSX
versions.

Anyway, a list member was so kind to send me an image of the TextEdit icon
in full resolution, so I'm not missing it. :-)

Thanks anyway,

The 512x512 icon is only used on the TextEdit app itself, the TextEdit
