Re: Sleep issue on G4 Tower

2008-11-04 Thread Anne Keller-Smith

Hi, Al ~

The internet connectivity might be it. I upgraded to cable a while ago,
but this has been happening for a while also. If I unplug temporarily
from the cable modem (well, the Airport Express that is plugged into
the cable modem) might that help? I *think* I may have noticed if
Firefox is not running it is better. Will see. Thanks.

I had sleep issues with a 450 mhz x2 G4 with 10.2.8. Somewhere in
between 10.4.0 and 10.4.11 everything magically resolved.

Anne:

Did something change in your machine's environment, either hardware or
software?

My G4 Quicksilver 733mHz Tower sleeps well only when running OS
9.2.2. When running OS 10.3.9 Panther, only the screen would sleep,
the hard drives keep running until I shut down. There could be many
suspect reasons for this, and I never spent the time to isolate the
one. In my case, I suspect something involving internet connectivity
via cable, or my Canon scanner which draws its power from the Mac, or
the Epson printer?

Sleep issue on G4 Tower

2008-11-03 Thread Anne Keller-Smith

Hi - it has decided to have insomnia. Used to sleep really well.
Sometimes it will sleep after a minute which is how I set it in Energy
Saver. But the hard disk doesn't go to sleep. When I select sleep under
the Apple Menu it wakes up after about 5 seconds.

Any ideas? The fan broke once and so I am leery of letting it be awake
with the fan running all the time.
