Not so in this case, 7450 "e" processor, etc has worked fine for former
versions but the latest, no go..

Open TenFourFox. In the Bookmarks menu, click on Show All Bookmarks. A
new window will open with five buttons. Click the one at the far right (the
star cycle icon) and select Import Data From Another Browser, then select
 Safari.

This apparently only work for Bookmarks. i have had to re-enter passwords
manually, but fortunately had a master list kept elsewhere. You can find
your user names for the sites you visit by opening Safari and going to
PreferencesAutofill and clicking on the Edit button next to User names
 and passwords.

TenFourFox bookmarks

2013-06-28 Thread Jörg Duurkoop
 Hi Bruce,

I had tried everything you told me already but nothing worked. My original
Firefox (ver. 3.6.13) looks exactly the same like TenFourFox. I just opened
it and it displayed the same tabs/windows that I had open when I quit
TenFourFox.

So I tried again to import the Safari bookmarks via the menu Import... and
clicked Safari. Firefox told my it's done it but when I look in its
Bookmarks menu I see a folder named Safari which is empty. No cigar.

Also the site XE.com doesnt display its currency chart, in the chart field
is the message that I need to enable JavaScript and need Flash. But all
other sites display Flash videos OK and JavaScript is on. I cannot use most
Extensions though.

What is the difference between Firefox and TenFourFox? It doesn't seem
faster than Firefox and videos play a lot worse than in Camino.

Best regards, Jörg.

You also need to make sure you are using the most current version; a Safari
import bug was corrected some time ago. See

There is a workaround on that page you can try.

Try clicking in the Bookmarks menu, the first option: Show All Bookmarks
(I don't know if is really this option, mine is in portuguese). For
default, the Firefox don't put the bookmarks into menu, you need to move it

TenFourFox missing bookmarks

2012-03-15 Thread geraldcornish

Hi
I now have the latest TenFourFox and still do not have bookmarks - I
try to import from safari but nothing appears after hitting 'done'.
Also, nothing happens when I ask for a new bookmarks folder and
saving a bookmark (command+D) generates nothing.

I have tried restoring permissions (one font in error) and verified hdd.

Does anyone have any suggestions, please.

Hi
Just upgraded to TenFourFox 10.0.2 and I have no bookmarks!
The bookmarks bar is visible but empty, the showallbookmarks shows
an empty screen.
Import Data From Another Browser (Safari) appears to work but shows
nothing.
Import Bookmarks from HTML also fails to work - the file can be
opened directly in TenFourFox and clearly shows the bookmarks with
appropriate Safari bookmark folder name.
Restore from backup didn't work but that may be because I haven't
made a bookmarks backup.

I have tried these options one at a time with a quit and reopen of
TenFourFox and all together with no difference.
I have also performed Repair Disc Permissions with DiscUtility to
no avail.

Any ideas out there - they will be much appreciated.

I can't replicate any of these issues in either 10.0.3 or 11. It does
indeed sound like a permissions problem, and repairing permissions does not
fix everything, only the ones that Disk Utility specifically knows about. I'd
look at the specific permissions on your profile, which is usually in your
home directory, Library, Application Support, Mozilla Firefox. Short of that,
you could try deleting that folder altogether, since you have no bookmarks
anyway, and see if it is recreated correctly. Otherwise, I'm sorry, but
since I can't cause the problem myself I don't have any other suggestions

Re: TenFourFox

2011-10-03 Thread Illirik Smirnov
Because of some daft programmers who decided that we don't need Flash
anymore on the Internet, Flash as well as every other plugin are disabled by
default in TFF6 and higher. You have three options for dealing with Flash
content:
 1) Install both TFF5 and TFF7 and use one/other for flash/noflash (although
you cant run more than one at a time)
2) Use other software to handle Flash videos (MacTubes for Youtube, etc)
3) Follow these steps to enable plugins in TFF6+:

1) Type into addressbar about:config
2) Accept disclaimer
3) Search plugins
4) Switch the option enable plugins (or something like that) to true
5) Restart TFF

I like 3 the best. Don't you?

Fair disclaimer: Flash 10.1 doesn't work on some sites and has security
holes in it; proceed at own risk.

Yes, you have to enable plugins.  I just learned how:

Open TenFourFox and in the address bar type about config
Scroll down to TenFourFox PlugIns and double click.
This changes the default behavior of TenFourFox, which, (as a fellow Lister,
Peter, just pointed out) is set to DISABLE.

After making this simple adjustment, TenFourFox is behaving itself and
displaying Flash media.

Re: TenFourFox

Not really. TenFour refers to the OS, which is 10.4, or 10.4.11 when
fully updated. Flash has got nothing to do with it.

And yes, plugins are supposed to be enabled manually, in the newest
TenFourFox version at least.

Re: TenFourFox

Also, everyone, be sure to remember that Flash 10.1 has severe security
problems. If we all lobby Adobe to release an updated version (I emailed
them way back when they dropped support telling them I wouldn't buy new
software till they compiled new Flash for PPC), they might actually do it.

Also, MacTubes is ridiculously slow. For instance, my PBG4 1.5GHz w/ 2GB RAM
plays 240p video fine in TFF even with other things running (although 360p
barely runs) whereas mactubes stutters.

Not that it's very likely that someone still running 10.4 is going to be worth

TenFourFox

2011-10-01 Thread Lawrence David Eden

Listers,

I recently installed the upgrade of TenFourFox (7.0) on my Mac G4
running Tiger (10.4.11).
TenFourFox is telling me that I need to install the Flash Player
Plugin and here is where the trouble begins. I am unable to find the
PlugIn on the Internet. The only versions that I can find are for
Intel Macs.

Interestingly, I also use Camino and it handles Flash just fine so I
know that the plugin is somewhere in my System. Safari can also
display Flash material.

Can I copy the plugin that Camino uses and make TenFourFox see it as well?
I need step by step instructions.

Thanks,

PlugIn on the Internet. The only versions that I can find are for
 Intel Macs.

Interestingly, I also use Camino and it handles Flash just fine so I
know that the plugin is somewhere in my System. Safari can also
 display Flash material.

Can I copy the plugin that Camino uses and make TenFourFox see it as
well?
I need step by step instructions.

 Thanks,

 Larry

Does that mean that the latest release will not work with Flash Player

have to manually enable plugins?

Yes, you have to enable plugins. I just learned how:

Open TenFourFox and in the address bar type about config
Scroll down to TenFourFox PlugIns and double click.
This changes the default behavior of TenFourFox, which, (as a fellow
Lister, Peter, just pointed out) is set to DISABLE.

After making this simple adjustment, TenFourFox is behaving itself
and displaying Flash media.

For instance, YouTube has unresolved overlaps of the player on the background.

It's nice that when you download and run TFF it uses all your Firefox resources

Firefox 4, as built by Mozilla, DOES NOT contain PowerPC code. It is x86 ONLY.

The *point* of TenFourFox is that it is a *PowerPC* build of Firefox
4. Cameron has put in an amazing amount of work to keep FF running

No, TenFourFox is largely an optimized compile of Firefox; this change only

Re: TenFourFox: A fork of Mozilla Firefox 4 for the Power Macintosh and Mac OS X Tiger PowerPC

2011-03-25 Thread Mike
Thank you for reminding me about TenFourFox! I just did some browser
benchmarking, and here are my results (Disclaimer: I am by no means a
professional benchmarker!):

I decided to give it a try on these machines and see what happens. I found a
browser benchmark called Peacekeeper from Futuremark to really see which one
is better.

PowerMac G4 Graphite (1GHz Sonnet Encore/ST Upgrade Processor, 1.5GB PC100
SDRAM, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, 40GB IDE):

(Higher is better)

TenFourFox 4.0: 597

Camino 2.0.7: 256

Camino errored on an unresponsive Javascript, but was able to continue.
These aren't the best comparisons since Camino is based off of Firefox 3
while TenFourFox is based off of Firefox 4, however Camino was updated 2
days ago, so it will be a while to wait until both distributions can be
compared to each other with the same Firefox rendering engine. The
difference is significant though, TenFourFox scores much better.

PowerBook G4 (667MHz PowerPC G4, 1GB PC133 SDRAM, ATI Rage M6, 45GB Laptop
IDE):

(Higher is better)

TenFourFox 4.0: 372

Camino: 165

TenFourFox repeated the same unresponsive Javascript error while Camino
didn't this time, but also was able to continue. Interestingly enough, the
scores were much lower overall than the Graphite. While the bus speed is
33mhz faster, the slower hard drive and lesser video card seemed to have a
pretty big impact in performance.

Overall, TenFourFox is now my perferred browser on my Ten Four machines!

This is from the Clasilla guys; it's optimized for each of the G
processors. The devs promise dramatically faster JavaScript, WebM
video, compatibility with most Firefox add-ons, and HTML 5 and CSS 3
 support http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/technology/.

Preliminary testing indicates pretty snappy on Pismo 500 with
 gig-o-ram.

Alas, help for us poor, or shall, I say, cheap folks. Thanks, Vic.

The development of TenFourFox was announced and discussed on the LEM
Tiger Group, the logical forum, months ago.

Re: TenFourFox: A fork of Mozilla Firefox 4 for the Power Macintosh and Mac OS X Tiger PowerPC

2011-03-25 Thread Mike
Sorry for the double-email, but I completely forgot about Safari.

PowerMac G4 Graphite AGP (1GHz Sonnet Encore/ST Upgrade Processor, 1.5GB
PC100 SDRAM, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, 40GB IDE):

(Higher is better)

Safari 4.1.3: *763*

TenFourFox 4.0: *597*

Camino 2.0.7: *256*

Camino errored on an unresponsive Java script, but was able to continue.
These aren't the best comparisons since Camino is based off of Firefox 3
while TenFourFox is based off of Firefox 4, however Camino was updated 2
days ago, so it will be a while to wait until both distributions can be
compared to each other with the same Firefox rendering engine. The
difference is significant though, TenFourFox scores much better, although
not as well as Safari surprisingly.

PowerBook G4 (667MHz PowerPC G4, 1GB PC133 SDRAM, ATI Rage M6, 45GB Laptop
IDE):

(Higher is better)

Safari 4.1.3: *409*

TenFourFox 4.0: *372*

Camino: *165*

TenFourFox repeated the same unresponsive Java script error while Camino
didn't this time, but also was able to continue. Interestingly enough, the
scores were much lower overall than the Graphite. While the bus speed is
33mhz faster, the slower hard drive and lesser video card seemed to have a
pretty big impact in performance. Safari still scored the best out of the
three, which was unexpected in both cases.

Originally, I stated that TenFourFox is my new default, and it still is, but
now I'm torn. Speed versus plug-in convenience...

Thank you for reminding me about TenFourFox! I just did some browser
benchmarking, and here are my results (Disclaimer: I am by no means a
 professional benchmarker!):

I decided to give it a try on these machines and see what happens. I found
a browser benchmark called Peacekeeper from Futuremark to really see which
 one is better.
