Howdy, They seem quite clear to me. Full speed for USB as always referred to the 12 Mbit/s speed. I guess I would say buyers should always beware, but a little research does not hurt. I remember when USB 2.0 came out and the new speed was called Hi-Speed. I saw quite a few devices for a while that said they were USB 2.0 Full Speed. I knew what it meant and also knew some people would not. Whenever you get a USB 3.0 setup, be sure it is capable of Super Speed if you want to see any speed advantage. Finally, the way they described it is pretty much what they needed to say. There are slight signalling differences between USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 devices. Even though the card only does 12 MBit/s, it is important to know for a few devices that it is a USB 2.0 card, and not a USB 1.1 card. I had something a few years ago where this made a difference, although I don't remember what it was. USB 2.0 for a G4 MDD?
I just got my first MDD... and wow, I'm amazed how good it is. I was expecting something that could barely run leopard like my G4 800 iBook. So not the case. The big thing lacking here is USB 2. There are a lot of cheap (I mean really cheap) USB 2 PCI cards out there, but I'm worried that it's going to be hit-or-miss for one off the shelf working in my G4, with leopard. It'd be a nice bonus if it worked in OS 9 also... preferably at 2.0 speeds... Re: USB 2.0 for a G4 MDD?
The Belkin looks good at $9. Whatever you do, make sure it's 2.0 and not 2.0 compatible. I bought this one from we love macs http://www.welovemacs.com/uh241.html after reading the line Supports USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 devices at full speed They charged for shipping and of course I'd have to pay return shipping, so I tossed the board aside after finding it was really a 1.0 card.
