Category: None Group: 2.0.0 beta 6 Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: William Ehlhardt (orborde) >Assigned to: Sean Egan (seanegan) Summary: Bad import of old accounts.xml Initial Comment: PROBLEM:I previously used Gaim 1.5.0 on Ubuntu, but am now trying to 2.0 beta 6. Booting up Gaim without flushing ~/.gaim causes me to be unable to login to my AIM account. The groups and (cached?) buddy lists can be seen, but it cannot log in. DIAGNOSIS: Comparing the old and new accounts.xml shows that, in Gaim 1.5.0, an AIM account uses prpl-oscar whereas Gaim 2.0 beta 6 uses prpl-aim Changing the contents of the protocol tag in accounts.xml fixes the problem. SUGGESTED FIX: Gaim should automatically recognize the obsolete "prpl-oscar" and change it to "prpl-aim" when it loads accounts.xml. Though deleting and re-adding the account solved the problem, Gaim should really fix this automatically. NOTES: This problem has NOT been checked against the trunk branch, as trunk just dumps core on me. -- >Comment By: William Ehlhardt (orborde) Date: 2007-03-21 03:00 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1745650 Originator: YES As of trunk revision 18212, this bug results in a CRASH on startup. Specifically, when is "prpl-oscar", Gaim trunk crashes on startup. If the field is changed to "prpl-aim", Gaim works fine. Attached is a stack trace. Initial Comment: I am using Windows XP Professional and I recently switched to the 2.0.0 beta 6 version of GAIM when my problem started happening in the 1.5.0 version (I was worried about whether I'd lose my settings and log files & delaying my switch to a beta version). After several minutes of use all the text, menus, and icons become invisible. If I remember where they are, I can still use them (such as clicking in the text box on the chat window and typing a message and hitting enter), but I can't SEE anything other than grey outlines of the background. I can see the different shades of grey representing the message window, the text box, and the menu bar (nothing else). Once everything greys out, the only way I can view the messages I've just sent or received is to open the log file of the conversation. The sounds still work for sending an receiving messages. I can temporarily see my text/menus/icons again when I restart GAIM, but after a minute they're invisible again. Things don't go invisible on the buddy list and chat window at the same time, although they eventually both go blank and minimizing and maximizing doesn't fix it. GAIM isn't crashing, it's just becoming very difficult to use. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm s ending/receiving MSN, Yahoo, or AIM messages (or even a combination) when the error occurs. I tried rebooting my computer several times as well as restarting GAIM. I don't know what other information you might need or what else I can try to fix this on my own. I spent about 4 hours skimming through the bugs list here as well as the Users Helping Users forum to see if anyone else had posted a similar problem, but didn't see anything similar. -- >Comment By: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Date: 2007-03-20 18:04 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=325843 Originator: NO Are you using a weird theme or windowblinds or something? Category: win32 Group: 2.0.0 beta 6 >Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: nodeax (nodeax) Assigned to: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Summary: flashes too much on new message. Initial Comment: OS: Windows XP When I enable Flash window when IM is recived in Preferences->conversation the window flashes continiusly till i click on it or on the main gaim window. However it should stop flashin if I have enabled prevent applications from stealing focus -> flash taskbar button 3 times in (General -> Focus) Tweak UI of XP powertoys. So the expected behavior is when the focus is on some other window and i get a message in a minimized window the window should flash for 3 times and stop. This is not so, it keeps flashing till i click it. How do I stop this? I do not want to disable the option of flashing totally. -- >Comment By: nodeax (nodeax) Date: 2007-03-20 19:33 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1726699 Originator: YES Hi datallah, thanks for your prompt response. I tried disabling taskbar flashing and enabling "raise conversation window". It never flashed, and seemed to have no effect. I also tried enabling flashing and "raise conversation window" and it dint help. I also had another question, is there a way I can the a new message window(when I get a new IM) minimized to the taskbar(and flash) instead of the current option of to the system tray (a bubble on the gaim icon). I am facing this problem because I have autohide taslbar enabled because of which I cant see the new message but I do not want all messages to popup too... This would be a nice feature to have in future, if many people want it :) Thanks for your time again. -- Comment By: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Date: 2007-03-20 17:37 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=325843 Originator: NO As lschiere mentioned, the "prevent focus stealing" has nothing to do with gaim's window flashing. Gaim is flashing the window and not focusing it. You're asking for a feature that doesn't exist. It *may* be possible to get the Tweak UI flash 3 times to kick in if you disable gaim's built-in taskbar flashing and use the "Message Notification" plugin to "Raise conversation window" - since that will effectively be "stealing focus." -- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2007-03-19 14:24 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 Originator: NO flashing has nothing to do with "stealing" focus. -- Comment By: nodeax (nodeax) Date: 2007-03-19 03:58 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1726699 Originator: YES The above behavior works with Yahoo messenger (conversation window flashes 3 times and stops) -- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=100235&aid=1683373&group_id=235 - Take Surveys. Windows XP SP2 Fully Patched, Gaim Idles at ~30 MB ram until you start IM'ing people, and then ive seen it go all the way up to 400+MB. 4msn accounts, 3aim, doesn't seem to matter which sorting method (there use to be a leak with sort by log size) or which account has the Messaging window open. Reverted to gaim-2.0.0beta5 and this seemed to fix the problem, but AIM accounts showed up as '(unknown) account type' until you reset them. Any other info I can provide? Gaim seems to run without any problems but I have issues making a connection to MSN. I have a co-worker that uses Gaim 2.0.0 Beta 5 who is logged in under MSN, but I cannot seem to make a connection. Look in the directory where you installed gaim (there *will* be a liboscar.dll there - leave it there); in the plugins subdirectory there will probably be another liboscar.dll (with an older modification date than the rest of the files in there), that is the file that you need to get rid of. -- Comment By: Dylan255 (dylan255) Date: 2007-03-18 17:52 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1745527 Originator: YES I do not have the file specified anywhere on my computer - liboscar.dll. -- >Comment By: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Date: 2007-03-20 12:37 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=325843 Originator: NO As lschiere mentioned, the "prevent focus stealing" has nothing to do with gaim's window flashing. Gaim is flashing the window and not focusing it. You're asking for a feature that doesn't exist. It *may* be possible to get the Tweak UI flash 3 times to kick in if you disable gaim's built-in taskbar flashing and use the "Message Notification" plugin to "Raise conversation window" - since that will effectively be "stealing focus." -- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2007-03-19 09:24 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 Originator: NO flashing has nothing to do with "stealing" focus. -- Comment By: nodeax (nodeax) Date: 2007-03-18 22:58 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1726699 Originator: YES The above behavior works with Yahoo messenger (conversation window flashes 3 times and stops) -- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=100235&aid=1683373&group_id=235 - Take Surveys. -- >Comment By: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Date: 2007-03-20 12:30 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=325843 Originator: NO Try using this newer GTK+ version: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/gaim/gtk-runtime-2.10.11-rev-a.exe -- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=100235&aid=1684146&group_id=235 - Take Surveys. The new behavior is that it flashes whenever you have an IM from anyone, even if you have an open window (that is minimized or shaded) with that contact. I really don't like that, and would like an option to only make the taskbar icon blink when I get a new message from someone I DON'T have a window open with. I rely on other notification methods (like having an asterisk in the title bar of the IM window from the Message Notification plugin) to show me that I've received an IM from someone with whom I'm already chatting. For instance, something like "Only notify on messages from buddies you're not currently chatting with". Would that be acceptable? It seems reasonable to have this as an option. -- Comment By: Casey Harkins (charkins) Date: 2006-12-01 10:13 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=254876 Originator: NO What you are describing was the 1.5 behavior of the docklet. There were feature requests for the current behavior, so I added the current behavior in as a preference. When the docklet moved from plugin to core, the prefs were cut and this behavior was chosen. So the question is whether to change the behavior back to blink only for unread messages on hidden conversations, to add the pref back in, or to keep the current behavior. I'm happy to submit the patch to do either of these, but would rather here from a core dev or two as to whether they want to include such a patch. There was a discussion on gaim-devel when these prefs were slashed. -- Comment By: Aurora Skarra-Gallagher (aurorasg) Date: 2006-11-30 12:34 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=940630 Originator: YES To clarify on why it's nice to have this feature, I use the system tray icon to let me know if I'm getting a message from a contact that I'm not chatting with. I find it distracting to see it blinking when it's simply indicating that there is a conversation going on in a chat window that I already have open, because I use the Message Notification plugin settings to tell me that I'm getting a message from someone I'm already chatting with. I consider it a separate thing to be notified when a new person is IM'ing me. I'm sure this is utf-8 related because the type of "gibberish" I see is typical to hebrew utf-8 messages encoded incorrectly. looks something like this: ׳™׳© ׳׳™ ׳“׳ ׳›׳×׳•׳ ׳•׳׳ ׳™ ׳׳ ׳׳™׳×׳ ׳—׳׳× ׳׳ ׳™ ׳׳©׳‘׳˜ ׳”׳¢׳•׳ -- Comment By: Michael Stather (michaelstather) Date: 2005-12-21 17:49 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=392303 ISO-8859-1 -- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2005-12-21 16:43 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 oh. then they aren't necessarily UTF-8 at all. what is your encoding set to in your account options? -- Comment By: Michael Stather (michaelstather) Date: 2005-12-21 16:42 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=392303 I don´t talk about my away message, I mean the away messages of other ICQ users. They´re using the regular Windows ICQ client. -- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2005-12-21 15:26 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 I cannot duplicate this. how did you enter the away message? what protocols are you using? -- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=100235&aid=1386983&group_id=235 - Take Surveys.
