Category: win32 Group: 2.0.0 beta 6 Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: CCCMistiq (cccmistiq) Assigned to: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Summary: All text, menus, and icons becoming invisible. Initial Comment: I am using Windows XP Professional and I recently switched to the 2.0.0 beta 6 version of GAIM when my problem started happening in the 1.5.0 version (I was worried about whether I'd lose my settings and log files delaying my switch to a beta version). After several minutes of use all the text, menus, and icons become invisible. If I remember where they are, I can still use them (such as clicking in the text box on the chat window and typing a message and hitting enter), but I can't SEE anything other than grey outlines of the background. I can see the different shades of grey representing the message window, the text box, and the menu bar (nothing else). Once everything greys out, the only way I can view the messages I've just sent or received is to open the log file of the conversation. The sounds still work for sending an receiving messages. I can temporarily see my text/menus/icons again when I restart GAIM, but after a minute they're invisible again. Things don't go invisible on the buddy list and chat window at the same time, although they eventually both go blank and minimizing and maximizing doesn't fix it. GAIM isn't crashing, it's just becoming very difficult to use. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm s ending/receiving MSN, Yahoo, or AIM messages (or even a combination) when the error occurs. I tried rebooting my computer several times as well as restarting GAIM. I don't know what other information you might need or what else I can try to fix this on my own. I spent about 4 hours skimming through the bugs list here as well as the Users Helping Users forum to see if anyone else had posted a similar problem, but didn't see anything similar. -- Comment By: CCCMistiq (cccmistiq) Date: 2007-03-22 12:18 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1747853 Originator: YES File Added: buddy-list-blank-and-menu.JPG -- Comment By: CCCMistiq (cccmistiq) Date: 2007-03-22 12:17 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1747853 Originator: YES File Added: buddy-list-blank.JPG -- Comment By: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Date: 2007-03-20 18:04 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=325843 Originator: NO Are you using a weird theme or windowblinds or something? Now my problem has changed slightly. Instead of seeing the grey background it turns completely black. I still get the tooltips, can access menus, and type messages if I remember where everything is. -- Comment By: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Date: 2007-03-20 12:30 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=325843 Originator: NO Try using this newer GTK+ version: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/gaim/gtk-runtime-2.10.11-rev-a.exe -- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailatid=100235aid=1684146group_id=235 - Take Surveys. ALL my gmail contacts are getting loaded into the Buddies category of the Buddy list. If I delete all but the ones I want, next time I start GAIM, they are all back again. I located the blist.xml file in my Application Data\.gaim directory and hand edited it to remove the unwanted buddies (with GAIM not running), but when I restarted GAIM they were reloaded (and added back into that blist.xml file). That file does not seem to be what determines the buddy list then, but rather a record of it? I searched my hard drive for any file with the string blist in its name and turned up nothing. How can I make changes to the buddy list now that will write back to the jabber server successfully and override this loading of all my contacts? ~Kelly -- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailatid=100235aid=1686223group_id=235 - Take Surveys. Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Kelly (kkellyc) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: New Buddy Groups unsuccessful Initial Comment: I have just installed the last WinGAIM 2.0.0 beta 6. Now when I try to add a new buddy group, it does not show up in the buddy window. If I exit and restart, it still is not there. If I open up the blist.xml file in my Application Data\.gaim directory, I can see a line of code has been added with the name of my new buddy group, but just one line, and it looks like this: group name='Friends'/ Other group names do not have the ending / character, and they have a paired line /group to enclose the group. Hand editing the file to make the new group look like the others does not work, but I've already determined that this blist file is not determining GAIM settings on startup but rather acting as a sort of log - the actual settings must be stored in a file with a different name (not containing 'blist') or getting sent off somewhere? Please let me know if there is a workaround for this. Thanks, ~Kelly -- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailatid=100235aid=1686227group_id=235 - Take Surveys. Windows XP SP2 Fully Patched, Gaim Idles at ~30 MB ram until you start IM'ing people, and then ive seen it go all the way up to 400+MB. 4msn accounts, 3aim, doesn't seem to matter which sorting method (there use to be a leak with sort by log size) or which account has the Messaging window open. Reverted to gaim-2.0.0beta5 and this seemed to fix the problem, but AIM accounts showed up as '(unknown) account type' until you reset them. Any other info I can provide? I use Gaim Beta 6 with Windows xp and there are some things that bother me sometimes. - ICQ file transfer don't work if someone wants to send me a folder. - If I copy a text from some websites in a icq chat, my following messages begin with front size=3 (corresponding), I must close the chat window so fix it. - If I copy a text from some websites the formatting is strange, space characters,... - I miss the log in in the tray from version 1.5 It would be great if these things aren't in the final release Sincerely yours -- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailatid=100235aid=1686339group_id=235 - Take Surveys.
