Just a warning for Mandriva users...

If you install KDE 4.5 packages on Mandriva 2010.1, then you won't be able
 to
compile the Qt4 component, because a file in the qt4-devel package has a
 bug.

The bad file is named libQtWebKit.la and is located in /usr/lib (or
 /usr/lib64 on 64 bits systems).

I join a fixed libQtWebKit.la so that everything compiles correctly!

 Hi,

As the subject said, I have disabled DatePicker and MessageLabel in the

These controls have problems, especially the DatePicker, and if their creator
want to fix them, they should tell me. Otherwise they may be removed, or
rewritten if I have time and someone really needs them.

In the same revision, you can add close buttons to TabStrip tabs, as someone

how many their are, and maybe write a Letter in name of all of them to let know

Subject: [Gambas-user] Licensing problems in Gambas

Hi,

There are two licensing problems in Gambas that must be solved.

1) The first one should not be difficult: we must find a license for the
gambas wiki documentation that makes it free. I need suggestions...

2) The bad problem: gb.db.firebird uses two sources files from www.ibpp.org
whose license (the Borland Interbase Public License) is not compatible with
the GPL. This point was raised by Kelly Hopkins, the maintainer of the gnu.org
free software directory. I'm afraid Gambas will have to lose firebird support,
but maybe we should ask www.ibpp.org about that. I need help there too!

Thanks in advance for your comments.

[Gambas-user] Good news!!

2009-10-30 Thread David Villalobos Cambronero

Hi, Benoît All:

Days ago one friend call me to ask to
by a judge in a scientific exposition, my surprise came when he told
me that one of the projects was created with gambas by a couple of
students. They made a system to turn lights on off in a house.
The use the LPT1 port to interact with the lights.

They made it complete by themselves and
they are 17 years old!

I just wanted to share this news with
you, I think is great that young people are using Gambas in my
country (Costa Rica).

This shows how easy-to-use and reliable
gambas could be.

The students are very exited because I
told them I will share this news with all of you, if there is
something you want me to tell them, just let me know.

Best Regards.

David.

Subject: [Gambas-user] Passive wait ???

I'm trying to implement soft of a status bar on my application.
When certain actions are performed, I want to display the successful
results on this status bar, rather than a pop-up message. This is an
attempt to reduce the number of clicks necessary (get annoying after a
while).

So I thought, to accomplish this, I can add a text label a the bottom
of my form, and use it as a status bar.
When a task is performed succesffully, I want it to display the
message for 5 seconds and then clear the status bar, so I thogh

tlStatusLbl.text = Task succeeded
wait 5
tlStatusLbl.text =

And that works, except that while it's in that WAIT loop, the whole
app lags, and the app doesn't move or refresh until the wait period is
over.

Does anyone know a way to send this wait to the background or another
way to implement this behaviour?

Hi,

As you may have noticed, each time someone has a problem with Gambas, the same
information is always requested.

So I'm looking for kind peoples who would write a shell script for Gambas that
automatically dump all the needed information in a text file.

The information needed are:
- The OS.
- The distribution.
- The distribution version.
- The CPU.
- The architecture (32/64 bits).
- The version of Gambas.
- The output of ./reconf ./configure -C (optional)

Of course, other information can be added.

I have tons of things to do, so I ask for help. Any volunteer?

 Hi David,
I normaly look at the /etc/issue file, which if not edited, contains
the distribution name and version. It works for Fedoras and Ubuntus, but
I am not sure whether it's standard across other distributions.
 Regards,
 Toni

It works for Mandriva too.

He was me. My error was I opened the shell process
FOR READ WRITE instead of INPUT OUTPUT.
I attache a little example so it will be clear howto.
The example is a form with a textbox. You type
the root password and confirm and you execute
cat /etc/sudoers as root (you'll see the output on Gambas
console). It's just an example, you can try any other root command.
Other solutions includes using gtksu or kdesu, but this way you
 depend on desktop.

You can't automatically. You could write a function
to calculate the maximum length of a cell content
in the same column and then change the column width.
The basic thing is that you have to calculate the width
of a cell content. You could do this:

Dim iContentW as Integer

iContentW = GridView1.Font.Width(GridView1[0,0].Text)

Once you have the longest cell content, you can resize that
column adding a little value.

GridView1.Columns[0].Width = iContentW + 10

You have to calculate the width of all cell content of a specific row,
select the longest, resize the column. Not comfortable, but not impossible.

Bye,

Stefano

Normally, setting the column width or row height to -1 does the job, but:
- It seems to work strangely when the GridView is filled by the Data event.
- It is not implemented in gb.gtk yet.

So, I think this was the problem, BUT, the problem is that the pictures I want

Well, that means that hResultado[Imagen] returns NULL.

Are you sure that your field is interpreted as a Blob by Gambas? I remind
you that MySQL has no blob field type, only string field types.

So Gambas has to make a choice, and only string field types whose maximum
length is greater then 2^24 is a blob.

I just need 2^24 not 2^32. Since LONGBLOB is not a VARBLOB I thnik it will

Re: [Gambas-user] Blob management

2009-06-25 Thread David Villalobos Cambronero

Forgot to add more details.

And yes, the example works fine but I don't get it to work in my app.

Here is the senario:

I got a table with a picture (just a record) and I want to save it to the disk,
(PictureDatabase does it by the PictureBox not directly).

Driver: mysql, Mandriva 2009.1 32 bits, Gambas 2

Here are my statements

  DIM hResultado AS Result

IF NOT Exist(/tmp/mas) THEN MKDIR /tmp/mas
  hResultado = $hConn.Exec(SELECT * FROM `Pics`)
  File.Save(/tmp/1.jpg, hResultado[Pic].Data)

Or can you provide me an example of saving to disk an image stored in a
database?

Hi,

I just added a new feature in the development version: the Assign() function.

It is like Eval(), except that the expression can be an assignment. It returns
the assigned value.

For example:

Dim hCtrl As Control ' Any control
Assign(a.Text = \Hello\, [a: hCtrl])

will assign the Hello string to the Text property of hCtrl.

At the moment, you cannot something like:

Assign(a.x = NEW Timer)
Assign(a.y = OPEN \file\)

But this is planned.

Enjoy it!

 Hi everyone,

The Gambas web site is now fully translatable.

To do that, most of the pages were moved to the wiki - pages that are
generated cannot go to the wiki.

Everything is in a new project located in /trunk/app/src named
 MakeWebSite
 (original, isn't it?).

This project generates the HTML pages in all specified languages from HTML
templates where string to be translated are marked.

To do the translation, just translate the MakeWebSite project as any other
Gambas project. You need a subversion write access to commit your changes,
 so
ask me if you don't have one.

News can be translated too, provided that you add the news html files to
 the
/news/ project directory, where is your language code.

You don't have to run the project. If you do it anyway, it will generate
 the
HTML directly inside the project directory. But as these generated files
 are
not versioned, they will never be committed.

Note that not all strings are marked yet, and some pages will move to the
 wiki.

To translate the pages located in the wiki, just go to the wiki.

If you want to translate the website to a new language, just tell me and I
will add it to the project, with the corresponding flag.

And of course if you want more details, ask!

Yes, I know it may be a little off-topic, but the question is:

I need to launch a process with root privileges from SHELL command in
Gambas. Users of my application can have Gnome or KDE, so I don't know
which command I must issue to get it to work.

Is there a way to choose between either gksu o kdesu commands at runtime?
I've figured it out if it could be something like:

  SHELL gksu | kdesu -u root 'some_command'

or

SHELL gksu -u root 'some_command' | kdesu -u root 'some_command'

That regular expression is meant to extract a valid email address. (It may
not be a working email address, but it should at least be legal.)

One thing I should probably make clearer in the documentation is that due
to the way Gambas uses character constants like \n, you need to double up
on backslashes when you're specifying a regular expression as a constant.
So if the user is entering it or you're reading it from a file, it might
be a\s+(b\S+) but if you're hardcoding it into your program it needs to
be a\\s+(b\\S+). Here is a Gambas script to demonstrate (just tried it
in my own console and it runs in 2.9, but watch out for my email client's
word wrap.)

USE gb.pcre

DIM myemail AS String
DIM validemail AS String
DIM re AS RegExp

myemail = f...@bar

re = new RegExp(myemail, (?i)\\b[a-z0-9\\._%\\...@[a-z0-9._%\\-]+\\.[a-z]
{2,4}\\b)
validemail = re.Text
if not validemail then
print myemail is not a legal email address.\n
else
print myemail \n
end if

 RETURN bMail

END

I your text matches, it will return true.

Sorry for ugly indentation due to plain text formatting email.

And just be aware that my system is 64

By the way, I agree with Ron. I my case Gambas 3

the problem about qt-mt, I try to fin the lib with kfind and realize

If Redhat puts the Qt library in a strange place, maybe the configure
script cannot find it. And if nobody posts the output of configure,
  fixing that is hard!

From the problems I have it did look to me something with qt was failing.
In the configure there is/was no mention about qt-mt
but in the log from 'make' it occurs on some parts related to gb.gt.
I did give you those logs also the ones from make install with the -v flag
 for the gbi calls.
I commented even the place in that special log where the gbi -v was
aborted. Never got a hint from that action you requested me to do with -v
 flag.

It may be not exact the same problem but strong related in my view
by reading my log files line by line.

The compare for diffs between kubuntu8.04 - kubuntu-8.10 and your mandrake
 was interesting but not effective.
However we din never look to where the diffs where for the qt libs and
 that is interesting to.
 kubuntu 8.04 based on qt3 kde3
 kubuntu 8.10 based on qt4 kde4

I did see in the 'make' log references for gcc for lib paths to lib/qt4

Attached the result for 'locate qt3' (removed the /user/share/doc lines)

So I did give up, live goes on for you and me.

I don't change anything to the libraries. Everything is done by the libtool
tool.

libtool works by using the contents of the *.la files to know what flags
should be sent to the linker. Sometimes, the *.la files provided by the
distribution are false (it happened once on an old Mandriva, and it happens
recently on Ubuntu).

Can you (David Ron) post the contents of your libqt-mt.la files?

 MySQL says:

If you get Commands out of sync; you can't run this command now in your

happen, for example, if you are using mysql_use_result() and try to execute

Does the 'CALL' MySQL instruction need to be handled in a different way than

At the moment only classes that inherit Window can have an Action_Activate

Can you explain exactly what your goal is?

I mainly display a ListView on top of the Editor control. Editor has methods
to know where the cursor is so that you can move the ListView just under it.

You can look in the IDE source code to have the details. But it is complex, as
it supports different auto-completions: class symbols, event handlers,
keywords, identifiers, special methods.

Hi,

I am writing a test program and I am little stuck with the big fields in
gb.db. Could someone tell me please?

what type I define to use the following MySQL fields?

VARCHAR(*M*), VARBINARY(*M*) *L* + 1 bytes if column values require 0 – 255
bytes, *L* + 2 bytes if values may require more than 255 bytes
TINYBLOB, TINYTEXT *L* + 1 bytes, where *L* 28 BLOB, TEXT *L* + 2 bytes,
where *L* 216
MEDIUMBLOB, MEDIUMTEXT *L* + 3 bytes, where *L* 224
LONGBLOB, LONGTEXT *L* + 4 bytes, where *L* 232

I have a similar problem, but with the sourceforge commits mailing-list. Some
commits are never emitted. Sourceforge infrastructure is not very reliable.

You should be able to do that with 21 in a shell. What's the problem with
that?

 Hi all,

How can I get a dinamic array with more than one dimension.

I my program I need to create at execution time a dinamic array, in
 example:

1 - I will ask the user how many rows.
2 - I will ask the user how many columns.
3 - With this info I need to create an array.

I know there is String[], Integer[], but how can I get more dimensions.

 Best regards

 David

This a bidimensional 10x10 array of strings.

  DIM arsMyStrings AS String[]

  arsMyStrings = NEW String[10, 10]

  arsMyStrings[0, 0] = hello

  PRINT arsMyStrings[0, 0]

Bye,
