Hi Jorge,

Yeah certain card games and board games would need to be over the Internet so
that you don't see slash hear each others cards etc.

I'm sorry that you missed it but we did used to have a Mach 1 international
racing championship series that was organized by Hugo. He would decide which
track, difficulty level and number of laps. We would race and then send him
the record file with our best time. He would compile the results and post
them. I am not sure other than again over the Internet how it could be done
any other way.

[Audyssey] Mortal Kombat on the Wii First Impressions

2007-05-31 Thread Che
So I rode down to the local Wal Mart to buy MK Armageddon for the Wii
yesterday, since Amazon informed me without explanation that my order would
be delayed 2 weeks. I hate Wal Mart and all it represents, so you can
imagine how badly I wanted to check this game out.
My 11 year old nephew was here to check it out with me, which is a good
thing because the menus and so forth don't talk and need to be memorized.
After finally figuring out we had to register the second controller
through the Wii setup menu, we were on our way.
After choosing Baraka, my old time favorite from MK, I went into practice
mode. The game shows a diagram of special moves you can do, one after the
other, and with the Wiimote, the special moves are super easy to pull off
now.
For example, with Baraka, you hold down the b button and go back forward
to throw his blade, or up down to wind mill his blades, works almost every
time like a charm.
I have never played MK blind before, and the things I was afraid would be
a problem with two player are indeed a problem. I cannot tell when I am
near enough to the opponent to kick or punch, likewise how far away I am to
pull off a projectile move.
Also, there is no consistent way of telling quickly what side of your
opponent you are on. You can do a back back and listen for the sliding back
sound, but if you aren't on the side you think you are on, suddenly you have
moved into range of the enemy and you get ppounded. Maybe with more
experience, I can pick up on more subtle clues and be able to tell where I
am better.
Punches and kicks are handlded by the direction pad on the main remote,
with movement and blocks done on the nunchuck. It all works quite well.
Anyway, this is a first impression, I will probably do a podcast of the
game and make it available on my website sometime this week, as well as give
a text file that lays out the menus, as that is very much needed for blind
play.
  More to come...
   Che

[Audyssey] Wizarding World of Harry Potter

2007-05-31 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Folks,
While not game related I hope there will be things the blind can experience
in the New Wizarding World of Harry Potter Theme Park Announced for
Universal Studios

There is an exciting turn of events tonight as
Universal Studios
and the people behind Harry Potter announced that there will in fact be a
Hogwarts type theme park at Universal Studios (
Islands of Adventure
) in Orlando, Florida called The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

You will be able to walk through,
Hogsmeade village square
 and the very cool
Hogwarts castle
. This announcement confirms the rumors that have persisted for some time;
now this is to be fact with the park due to open in 2009. Harry Potter
author J.K. Rowling said The plans I've seen look incredibly exciting, and
I don't think fans of the books or films will be disappointed.

Hosted by Harry Potter movie production designer Stuart Craig in a special
webcast from Dumbledore's Office set at Leavesden Studios in England for
various
sites including TLC, you can now see video of this announcement on our
YouTube channel.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=AYFI5tQS4hg
, with others soon to follow.

Among the details revealed were:

This new theme park will include facets such as a Hogsmeade section, the
Forbidden Forest, and even Hogwarts Castle where you will actually be able
to
walk inside a replication of the beloved castle.
J.K. Rowling is described as having been very involved in the creating and
planning of this park since the begining, and is very supportive of this new
park.
There will be many types of rides some intense, shopping, and more, as
well as a brand new state of the art attraction.
A British environment is to be maintained, including the food served, and
mannerisms of the staff.
The park is aimed at fans of both the movies and books, geared for fans of
ages or as they said 7 to 67
Will incorporate elements of all the Harry Potter novels, books one through
seven.

In a
press release
http://home.businesswire.com/portal/site/google/index.jsp?ndmViewId=news_viewnewsId=20070530006346newsLang=en
about this new theme park, many executives reveal their enthusiasm for this
project
We have a profound sense of responsibility for the Harry Potter franchise
at Warner Bros. Bringing the magic of J.K. Rowling's written word to the
motion
picture screen was the first step in expanding this amazing and imaginative
world. Working with Universal Orlando Resort to bring it to life in a
physical
environment that you can walk through, relax in and ride on is the natural
next step for fans to experience and enjoy, said Alan Horn, president and

Hello Jim maybe you can make another version of trucker. in this new
version you can include different routes to go to different places in the
U.S. or canada and deliver different types of cargo as wel.. Also for the
different types of of trucks maybe you can add different engine sounds for
each truck instead of the same engine just an idea.

[Audyssey] Board games was Hello

2007-05-31 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,
Yeah, there are allot of board games out there that work similar to the
one we know and love. For example, there is a game called Hotels. It is
like Monopoly but cooler in ways.
In short, the Hotels game is where you go around the world building the
biggest and best Hotels. As you improve them, expand them, etc you
charge more and more. Your job is of course is to outbuild and drive
your competition into bankrupcy.
Of course I can imagine an even cooler idea where you buy and own famous
Hotels rather than made up ones.

Fair enough Jim, I did wonder if something like that might be a pest to
 program.

Personally, I'd deffinately like to see another board game next, - I do
rather like game of life and monopoly, have played them on several occasions
against friends as well. It's particularly nice to have something like that
on computer and not need to keep a hulking great braille monopoly board
knocking around, and I don't ever think there's been a braille version of
the game of life at all!

I believe there are several games around that use similar rules, some
of them i've played (with sombody reading cards etc.

Two I particularly remember were the pyramid game, where you had to be first
to get a dead phairo's sarcophagus to the valley of the kings and build a
pyramid, and Ratrace, which was similar to monopoly, accept you had to buy
various status symbols from the other players in order to become a rich
upperclass snob (a rather sarcastic game).

Well, that'd be my thoughts games wise, though I'm sure other people have
 different ideas.

 Beware the Grue!

 Dark.

 Hi Dark,

One problem with expanding the Monopoly board is that it would make all
current board files no good. And as you said the chance and community
chest cards must have a certain format because of what they do money or
piece movement wise. Making it so that one could edit the tokens would be
possible, but truthfully I do not plan to do any more versions of
 Monopoly.

I'm glad to hear that you like the idea for editable player files for
 baseball. Thanks for saying so.

I really do hope to work on something brand new after the new version of
baseball. Don't know what yet, but would like to work on something brand
 new.

Re: [Audyssey] game development

2007-05-31 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Charles,
Right. Seriously everyone, languages such as C++ have strict punctuation
rules that must be followed, or the app will not even compile let alone run.
Strings of text must be surrounded by quotation markes, end of lines
must be terminated with cemmi-colens, commas are used to make logical
line breaks, braces are used to start and end blocks of code, etc...
Most languages C++, C#, Java, etc use the same punctuation rules so it
is necesary to use them properly.

Hi Jim,
Wo, a full 161 game season would rule, but I agree a bit much to
program. At least with NFLyou have 16 games of the season, a few play
off games, and then the super bowl. In all around 25 games or les. Not
161 as in baseball.

Re: [Audyssey] Piracy of accessible software

2007-05-31 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
Well, sometimes no insentive is good enough to satisfy a true cracker.
Sometimes they crack it just because he/she can and feels good about
steeling. Like, Huh, I got away with it again. Muhahahaha...
You might be able to offer some insentives sales now and then, drawings
for a prize, a discount on your next purchase, etc. That might help, but
someone doesn't want to buy won't.

Hi Davy,
Encrypting your binary and files is a good idea. It really does help,
but it all depends on how determined your cracker is. Even encrypted
binary files have been known to be sliced and diced before.

Re: [Audyssey] Piracy of accessible software

2007-05-31 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Davy,
It is not as simple to say, make your game more secure, and believe
that is the answer. The truth is no method yet devised by better
programmers and well funded programmers than I is absolutely uncrackable.
For example product keys in general can be cracked with a product key
generator. Even if the product key is based on a hardware ID like
processor a bright cracker can in theory write his own key gen to
generate a key based on individual hardware IDs just like the developer.
One thing to keep in mind here is there are very good product key
registration programs out there, but not a single one is known to be
100% reliable.

Hi,
While encrypting software gives you one more layer of security it is not
invincible. Keep in mind that most encryption schemas are known by
developers and crackers alike. Even if you build a new encryption schema
it will likely follow some common encryption rules which will allow a
determined cracker to figure it out eventually.

Re: [Audyssey] Board games was Hello

2007-05-31 Thread ian and riggs
yes i would like another bord game that would be grate. i am a fan of board
games and love to play them. i had a board game called pay day wheir you had
to do diffrent things and you disided how many months to play and their
wheir diffrent things in it like lottary and stuff like that.

also their was another game called let's by holleywood wheir your aim was to
get controle of four coumpanies. they wheir good games.

in my time i played loads of board games.

another game i liked was a talking board game. it was called castle of doom.
you would press the dice button and it would tell you what space to move to
and it would make sounds so you knew what was happening. you needed
sightedpeople to help you move counters but other than that it was really
accessable.

Subject: [Audyssey] Board games was Hello

 Hi Dark,
Yeah, there are allot of board games out there that work similar to the
one we know and love.

Fair enough Jim, I did wonder if something like that might be a pest to
 program.

Personally, I'd deffinately like to see another board game next, - I
 do
rather like game of life and monopoly, have played them on several
 occasions
against friends as well. It's particularly nice to have something like
 that
on computer and not need to keep a hulking great braille monopoly board
knocking around, and I don't ever think there's been a braille version of
the game of life at all!

I believe there are several games around that use similar rules,
 some
of them i've played (with sombody reading cards etc.

Two I particularly remember were the pyramid game, where you had to be
 first
to get a dead phairo's sarcophagus to the valley of the kings and build a
pyramid, and Ratrace, which was similar to monopoly, accept you had to
 buy
various status symbols from the other players in order to become a rich
upperclass snob (a rather sarcastic game).

Making it so that one could edit the tokens would
 be
possible, but truthfully I do not plan to do any more versions of
 Monopoly.

I'm glad to hear that you like the idea for editable player files for
 baseball. Thanks for saying so.

I really do hope to work on something brand new after the new version of
baseball. Don't know what yet, but would like to work on something
 brand
 new.

 BFN
