I even win quite a lot of fights, even in higher stages :)

So I guess it is up to the individual how bad you want to take a shot at

I so want to try and play the new God of war for psp, even if it is just for

Who knows maybe some soul will eventually go thru the trouble and develop

too happen, at least for a reasonable price.
Anyway I am happy with my psp and do not regret the purchase at all.

2008-04-25 Thread Liam Erven
Hi Chrissy:

I totally have to agree. It's also nice at least here in the US I can rent
games from a company called game fly, so I'm able to try out the games and
if I like them I can keep them. It works out pretty well for the most part.
A lot of gaming is trial and error, but I think it's worth it in the long
run.

It's simple to configure it with jaws. All you've gotta do is add the JFW

oh. I'm so sorry to hear that Harry Hollingsworth died! I wish I could have

a DOS computer, a 486 perhaps if I can get hold of one, put DOS on it to
bring back the old memories, oh yeah and a nice doubleTalk synthesizer to go

 Hi Josh,
Unfortunately, On December 4, 2002, Harry H. Hollingsworth, 77, author,
 sports statistician, and
creator of World Series Baseball, died.
In September 2001, Carl Mickla, developer of Any Night Football and
 partner
with Phil Vlasak got a job with IBM and moved to Poughkeepsie,
New York and stopped developing games for the blind.
Phil agreed to take on more responsibility for running the company.
In October of 2001, we changed the name from Personal Computer Systems to
 PCS Games,
and registered the company in Michigan.

Re: [Audyssey] psp gaming

2008-04-25 Thread Tom Randall
Thanks for the informative response Chrissy.

Oh yes I am very well aware that these mainstream games are largely not
going to be playable by us to the same degree as a sighted person and we
are for the most part not going to be very competetive to our sighted
friends on them. That is not particularly important to me what is
important is that I can at least tell what is going on and what I am
doing enough so that I do not get completely fed up and quit, something
that I don't do very easily. I've been blind since birth myself,
however I had no blind friends when I was growing up, I hung out with
the sighted kids and wanted to play the games that my friends were
playing on their Atari 2600's and all that, , for that reason I've been
fooling around with mainstream games for 20 plus years, I'm very
experienced with mainstream consoles up to the NES and the Nintendo 64
but I basically gave up trying to keep up with them after that.

The more I hear about this system the more interesting it seems. Like I
say I think I am gonna see if one of my nephew's buddies has one that he
will let me check out, either that or I suppose I could just go to a
store and try to check one out there. Your point about buying used
games is a very good one and I would definitely go that route if I do
decide to pick one of these things up which I am definitely seriously
considering.

Later days,

Tom

[Audyssey] Playable games on the Lynx was RE: psp gaming

2008-04-25 Thread Tom Randall
Hi.

I've got about a dozen games for the Lynx. The ones I do the best with
so far are, super asteroids, Pinball Jam, Road Blasters and Switchblade
II. I do have a few others that I am still seeing if I can play them at
all and a few that I know are totally unplayable for us. There are a
couple more that I do intend to buy, Klax, turbo sub, Hydra and rampage
seem like they may potentially be playable for us. Unfortunately with
these older systems you pretty much have to just take a chance and buy
something because nowhere rents Lynx games. Fortunately they are pretty
cheap if you look around. Overall I really enjoy this little portable
and am glad I got it. Definitely fills the time when you are riding to
work on the bus lol.

Hope this helps.

Tom

Very good point Liam. I will have to look into the availability of game
rentals around here if I do decide to pick up a psp. Thanks for the
suggestion.

Hi Chrissy:

I totally have to agree. It's also nice at least here in the US I can
rent
games from a company called game fly, so I'm able to try out the games
and
if I like them I can keep them. It works out pretty well for the most
part. A lot of gaming is trial and error, but I think it's worth it in
the long
run.

 Hi Tom.
I have not been blind since birth so I did have just about every
 console
 out
until the last generation, which fell into the period when I lost the
rest
of my sight completely, so I was out of touch with consoles for a
while.
I think I may have the advantage that I know the set up of most
consoles
 by
heart, i.e. the menues and stuff, so I know where to go most times.

on psp, for example it is a little try and error most times, but most
 games
for it are very straight forward, menuewise.
in tekken once you managed to get thru the basic menue points it will
say
 a
lot about the happenings on the scree, like selct yout character, et
cetera. When you do play mainstream console games, that are of course
 aimed
at sighted gamers, you will encounter obstacles and the game
experience
 will
and cannot ever be the same one for us, that a sighted gamer has.
if you keep that in mind, then you are all set:)
still I think that on some games I can get enough enjoyment out of it
to
justify buying them. I buy used ones most times anyways.

With those games it is mostly about learning the layout and the sounds

 of
 a
game to get anywhere. Tekken for example is pretty good to learn when
you
are patient enough to take the time.
I even win quite a lot of fights, even in higher stages :)

So I guess it is up to the individual how bad you want to take a shot
at those games. Some do have awesome storylines and sounds, which I
really enjoy. I so want to try and play the new God of war for psp,
even if it is just for
the story and sounds, I have to say what people say about its
 accessibility.
I guess since it is an adventure hack and slay game, it will be kind
of
 hard
 to figure out.
Like you said the psp has the advantage that you can store all kinds
of
 data
as well as music on it.
Who knows maybe some soul will eventually go thru the trouble and
develop
some kind of screenreader for a handheld console, like my talks that I

 have
in my phone. Would be too cool, I guess the market is way too small
for
 this
too happen, at least for a reasonable price.
Anyway I am happy with my psp and do not regret the purchase at all.

well, those are some of my thoughts, have a great day!

 take care
 chrissy

 Hi,

It would be cool if Jim Kitchen or someone else would make an NHL game and
an NBA game someday similar to Jim's style of games using the sapi5 and
 sounds.

[Audyssey] Playable games on the Nintendo was RE: psp gaming

2008-04-25 Thread acarthon
Hi, It's AC. I remember playing the Nintendo game system with my sighted
friends. One day, I remember playing Bases Loaded. They couldn't
believe how I kept hitting home runs every time they pitched the ball. I
would just wait for the swooshing sound of the pitcher on the mound and
away it went. smile

Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I don't own a psp. I'm content with being a little behind- I have a

advanced sp, which I'll be demonstrating soon enough with pokemon. WHat
games do you find accessible with the lynx?
