I think my record is somewhere around 30 planes, so it can be done without the beeps if you work at it. One of my roommates has gotten 50 planes before and I think I remember reading where someone got something like two million points on expert. I like the game so far, and hrre's a big thanks to Jim for taking the time to create it for us! Now if I could just figure out the motorcycle game I'd be getting somewhere! Re: [Audyssey] Puppy1 keyboard Issues
Hi Shaun, Quote jim this aint true, dos has a kernal, but windows up to 95 was a shell over that.. End quote Actually, Windows 95 was just a graphical shell riding over top of MS dos 7. the operating system was still Dos, but Dos was relegated to mmore of a bootstrapper roll rather than the primary user interface. In previous versions of windows such as Windows 3.0 and 3.1 it was sold separately, and you had to add the win command to the startup scripts to load it automatically. with Windows 95 Dos and windows were bundled together, and Microsoft set windows to load by default. However, if you knew how to modify the boot scripts you could have Windows 95 boot into MS Dos 7 directly. In fact, as late as Windows 98 you could theoretically install MS Dos independantly of the Windows user interface for technical support purposes. I use to run the Windows 98 Dos shell from floppies all the time when I wanted to access something using JFD such as Partition Magic, commo, and some of my other favorite dos applications. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Puppy1 keyboard Issues
Hi Jim, right. the kernel can be given any name the developer wants to give it. In MS dos it is msdos.sys, in Windows 95/98 it was io.sys, in Linux it is vmlinuz, etc. It isn't the name that is important but the system files function that determines what a kernel is. At a minum a kernel bootstraps the initialization of the operating system handles basic keyboard, mouse, video, IDE drive support, etc. A kernel usually runs the very low level processes and functionality that the operating system needs for basic input and output as well as other hardware management. Everything else is just eh shell that rides on top of the kernel so you and I can communicate with the computer as well as get useful things done. As an example let us take a very simple operating system like MS Dos 6.2. the kernel is msdos.sys. the msdos.sys file handles the booting of dos, handles your basic vidio support, keyboard support, etc, but doesn't exactly give you much functionality by itself. The file command.com, however, is a shell that gets loaded so you can type commands and pull up files, directories, and launch programs. files like autoexec.bat are nothing more than boot scripts for command.com that pass early instructions to command.com, and tell it where to find directories, files, what programs to launch, etc. files like config.ini hold special configuration settings for the shell. However, the real magic is msdos.sys which is running in the background managing the hardware, system clock, and is providing input/output support for the shell you are interfacing with. Re: [Audyssey] achaea?
Huh, surprising. The last couple of times I've tried it they've had massive requirements to join any sort of guild, involving a long interview process, writing an essay of some kind and a few other rather unpleasant things. they had some really sweet sounding guilds, one that I was interested in especially was, well I can't remember the name of it, but you actually had to practice various forms of martial arts and earn belts to go up in rank. Then when you became a full member of the guild you could earn even more belts. If they've dispensed with all of the guild requirements, then I'd most definitely give that game another try, there was some really neat stuff there. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Hi Thomas and Shaun, Oh, ok, so kernel is a term for a system file of any name. I mistakenly thought that you were saying that it was literally the name of a system file that every computer had. thanks to the 36 people who participated in the recent contest. Both Chris Reagan and Synthia greenwell had exact gusses of 25. Which makes them both winners. They will both receive their choice of either an existing LWorks title, or a voucher for an up and coming game. keep your eye on the LWorks blog at www.l-works.net/blog as there will be a podcast posted this week with audio from the contest. Thanks again to everyone who participated. Re: [Audyssey] psp
Hi there I really don't know what the point of the strap that comes with the case is. It connects to your psp, big deal. Its not like I'm going to carry my psp around on my wrist with no case, it could smash into a million peaces! However this case comes with a cleaning cloth, and screen protectors. I'm using both. Stil loving this thing to death. Its my child now. a bit of a rant here:: Btw does anyone know if nightwolf is stil in mk: unchained? I love that guy. Not sure why, but he was the first character I ever played in mk3 for the genny. The sound his special move made was haunting but beautiful...I think it was supposed to be wind but was a horrible-sounding thing instead, which to this day stil brings back memories. Not to mention scorpions notorious "get over here!" line in the n64 days, and sub zeros icy freeze in the same days. I never did get my hands on any of the play station discs, however, and I regret not doing it now. I always wonder what mk3 was like. Did it have nightwolf? And trilligy for n64 was just mk3 from the genny spruced up to look and sound nicer, which it did. But nothing beat the genny. Oh yeah! that robot dude, named smoke I think. It was helarious when you kicked him, he sort of hummed. And when he punched or kicked you could only hear air swooshing, I guess, because they couldn't find a sound in the genny's catalogue quite apt enough to fit him. Lucang for the n64 rocked, he sounded and stil sounds like he could kick your butt in about 3 seconds (uh, that's happened to me quite a lot...). Have a good day from Tyler C.
