Oh yeah, I remember the typing invaders one. I'd love to find something
like that to let my students mess with...a bit of a change from the typing
practice they do now.

[Audyssey] Great Escape (was Re: Apple computers.)

2008-11-13 Thread Terrence van Ettinger AKA Angus MacLaren
And wasn't there a snake that would bite you and start a similar situation?
I've been lucky a time or two and found the kit in advance. I just tried to
get Louis's version, but when I ran it I got some kind of basic error.
Anyone know what that might be about?

Thanks,
Terrence

Yeah I remember that. I also remember there was a gorilla that would whack
you upside the head if you tried to push past it. Then you had I think

Re: [Audyssey] Sapi Issues

2008-11-13 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Terrence,

The first thing that I would try would be the DelUserLex.exe file that you can
find on my free windows sapi5 text to speech games page, as well as on the GW
Micro and Freedom Scientific sites. It is a strange file in that it doesn't
say or seem to do anything, but it did fix my sapi5 voices.

Here is another fix that I was told about. Not sure if it is actually just
doing the same thing or not.

Go to c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Speech
Then, press enter on Sapisvr.exe. It won't say anything, but it should
correct the control panel entries for Sapi.

Another thing that you can do is to use the Windows XP restore feature to
restore your computer back to a date when the voices were working.

And then there is to use your Windows XP cd to repair the entire sapi5 text to
speech engine.

HTH

That's the one where you had to escape the maze right? I seem to
remember

there was a Leprechaun who would give you gold if you caught him and
then

a villain who would throw you to a random location and also steal your
gold if he caught you. I never did complete that one.

Hi.
There's a windows version of the great escape on braille soft.
I have that version.
That's the first text adventure I played on the apple computer. I'd
like

to find a good accessible emulator to mess with those again.
I also remember lemonade stand, apples, space invadors, dragon maze,
and

a lot of others.

Hmm...I tried the deluserlex program with no success, and I don't seem to
have that sapisvr program. When I got this computer it already had SAPI
issues, and I think the first time it got a restore point made for it was
when I bought the license for it after finding out it wasn't genuine. I'm
still waiting for the Windows XP CD to reach me.

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Sapi Issues

Hi Terrence,

The first thing that I would try would be the DelUserLex.exe file that you
can find on my free windows sapi5 text to speech games page, as well as on
the GW Micro and Freedom Scientific sites. It is a strange file in that
it doesn't say or seem to do anything, but it did fix my sapi5 voices.

Here is another fix that I was told about. Not sure if it is actually
just doing the same thing or not.

Go to c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Speech
Then, press enter on Sapisvr.exe. It won't say anything, but it should
correct the control panel entries for Sapi.

Another thing that you can do is to use the Windows XP restore feature to
restore your computer back to a date when the voices were working.

And then there is to use your Windows XP cd to repair the entire sapi5
text to speech engine.

 Hi to Will,
Perhaps you could join the classroom yourself and learn a bit of english
grammar.

Perhaps once you graduated you would know what a run on sentence is.
Perhaps after that, you could move over to the manners and etiquette
classroom and pick up a few pointers.
Perhaps after that, you could go out and contribute something to the
community instead of standing back and taking cheap shots at someone that is
doing work benefitting others without a dime to show for it.
Perhaps if people patted the backs of those that donate their time to help
others out, instead of jumping on them for insignificant mistakes, this
would be a better world.

 Perhaps...

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Clasic vs New Levels

2008-11-13 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi,
Well, I can look into it, but as I said in an earlier post adding random
elements to a side-scroller certainly isn't going to be easy. It is a
lot easier in a FPS title just because there is a lot less work
involved, and the levels are layed out more logically.

matheus wrote:

yea thomas, go with the new levels. i played the demo of montezumas, but
yes, mode traps, more monsters will be much better.
and yes, this is the question that i'llr ealy whould like to know. many
games don't have much replaiability bekause noting is in randon, each
element is awreade defined, and it didn't changes, so sometimes is know
exactly what will come, etc. so if the monsters, can come in different
locations, it realy will be fun and much more replaiable.

Hi everyone,

I fixed the MS-Dos problem. I'm playing Eamon now, I'm so happy. lol
Anyways, does anyone know where I can get that old game called Mars? It
was a classic.

Also does anyone know why the sounds don't work in Dos?

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Clasic vs New Levels

2008-11-13 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Tom,
I would imagine the number of times you hit the left or right arrow to get
from one edge of the level to the other would be less and less due to the
level sizes being a little bit shorter.
If each room was ten feet wide than the top level would be 10 foot wide and
the bottom level would be 210 feet wide.

Hi Phil,
Yeah, the original pyramid shape was kind of cool. Though, you couldn't
tell that from a audio game perspective. Anyway, at any rate since the new
game takes place in Greace a pyramid wouldn't exactly work from a
historical point of view. Grin.
Though, I can tell you Tomb Hunter II, the sequel to MOTA, is going to be
set in Egypt. That is all I am going to say about the sequel at this
point.

Phil Vlasak wrote:

Hi Tom,
I vote for all new levels but keeping the design of the old levels in
mind for a possible future title when you get an easy to use level
builder in your game engine.
I still liked the idea of the pyramid design of the original Montezuma's
Revenge in which you start out with 21 rooms across and each level is 2
rooms smaller, until you go up 11 levels and get to the big room at the
top of the pyramid that holds the boss.

[Audyssey] Miner Gaming Galaxy Update!

2008-11-13 Thread Trenton Matthews

Hey folks,

Audio Games.net is now at the top of the gaming galaxy page, under PCS
Games, which thanks to a small notice from one of the staff at AG, uh,
lets just say, ... a word was changed on the main page of the galaxy
to be on the safe side.

Hmm. I got the dos version to work.
I couldn't get the deluxe version to work.
When i run the installer, I get this message.
Msdos 16 bit sub system.
This application doesn't support full screan.
I set it to run a regular window, but it keeps on doing that.

Here's the link to all Eamon manuals on the Eamon AG site:
http://eamonag.org/pages/eamon_manuals.htm

In the deluxe one, it seems that the author has a copy? of qbasic in
there? So I'm think you're gonna need that.

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Clasic vs New Levels

2008-11-13 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi,
Yeah, I am only planning one set of levels for this first release.
Especially, since the old levels aren't compatible with the new engine
and the old ones require just as much time to add and create as the new
ones.

Shadow Dragon wrote:
My vote? New levels. If people really want the old levels in for some

planning to release one set of levels, definitely brand new levels.

Re: [Audyssey] Sryth Gear

2008-11-13 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi,
Generally speaking the armour follows the same principles as your
weapons. To b sure you can always view the item to make sure its mr,
stamina, etc is the same or better as your existing items. If you get
say some sturdy leather that may be roughly equal to common metal armour.

William L. Houts wrote:

I have a question about comparing gear in sryth and I couldn't seem to
find it on the Sryth wiki. This is the question: when comparing
armors, say, is a metal helmet in poor condition better than a leather
helm in common or good condition? I do think I read that it's better
to have a good dagger than a shoddy longsword, but I can't tell if the
same principle applies to armor.

Thanks!

[Audyssey] Release Candidate for Top Speed 2.1 has arrived!

2008-11-13 Thread Leonard de Ruijter

Exactly four years after the first public release of Top Speed 1.1, an updated
version of Top Speed 2 is available for testing. Top Speed 2.1 has some bug
fixes compared to 2.0 aswell as some minor new features:

the menu has been rearranged
some new sounds, tracks and cars
more realistic physics model
support for custom tracks in multiplayer
Known issues:
In the menu, two sounds won't be playing simultaneously anymore, except in the
local internet game selection menu, where this issue can still occur.
The ReadMe contains some 'empty' sections. This will be fixed in the final
release.
Sometimes the game crashes when you leave the assign keys section of the
options menu
The X-Sight Interactive TS2 Utility Pack also could contain some bugs or
problems. As this pack isn't a product of Playing in the dark, you can send
your bug reports or questions to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
We would like to thank Davy Kager from Ducktail Games for the programming
assistance. A special thanks to Damien Sadler for contributing the TS2Pack.
Also a thank you for Arjan Tool, Melanie van Egmond, Axel Vugts and Florian
Bijers for the initial testing.
Note: This is a release candidate version, which means that the game could
still contain some bugs and issues. Please mail your bug reports (with the
tracing.txt file attached) to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Happy racing, Davy, Bram, Pieter and Leonard

[Audyssey] random appearance of monsters

2008-11-13 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Willem and all,
Sigh. Understand that the Genesis Engine was never designed with this
sort of thing in mind. It was designed to place monsters and items for
an FPS game and not for a side-scroller. To add certain monster
sponnning triggers like you propose means I have to reopen the Genesis
core again and redesign the way monsters are placed on the game level.
Your suggestion is completely uncompatible with the way things are done
currently. I don't want future Genesis based titles to do that. So if I
am going to decide to do this then I basically have to drop the idea of
using Genesis as the core engine behind the game. it needs to be stand
alone because the engine I planned to create and MOTA are becoming less
and less compatible all the time.
Besides i am currently working with a limited budget and with limited
time on my hands as it is. That is why I have set a personal deadline
for this game. I am suffering from extreme burn out, and after it is
released I don't ever want to create another side-scroller as long as I
live. The way I see it I am currently writing a game to pay my debt to
the buyers of the game, and not for myself. If I had any choice in the
matter, if I didn't have several pre-orders hanging over my head, i
would have trashed the game long ago. So I plan to create a decent
game, but please don't ask me to spend an extra six months or even six
weeks adding features that will put this game passed my initial
deadline. i just want it done and over with.

Cheers.

Willem wrote:

Hi Thomas.

I think you are not viewing the whole problem of randomising the
appearance of monsters.

If a player enters a room, he would be standing on the floor, right.
Or if he would jump and land he would then be on the floor. So you
would have the Y coordinate automaticly and wouldn't have to randomly
find it.

Also if the door is opened, a check could be made if there would be a
monster on the other side of the door and if so, what kind. And if the
player walks past certain points, triggers could be set off to spawn
some random monsters.

That is just my humble opinion.
Willem.

Subject: [Audyssey] random appearance of monsters

Hi Willem and all,
Sigh. Understand that the Genesis Engine was never designed with this sort
of thing in mind. It was designed to place monsters and items for an FPS
game and not for a side-scroller. To add certain monster sponnning
triggers like you propose means I have to reopen the Genesis core again
and redesign the way monsters are placed on the game level. Your
suggestion is completely uncompatible with the way things are done
currently. I don't want future Genesis based titles to do that. So if I
am going to decide to do this then I basically have to drop the idea of
using Genesis as the core engine behind the game. it needs to be stand
alone because the engine I planned to create and MOTA are becoming less
and less compatible all the time.
Besides i am currently working with a limited budget and with limited time
on my hands as it is. That is why I have set a personal deadline for this
game. I am suffering from extreme burn out, and after it is released I
don't ever want to create another side-scroller as long as I live. The way
I see it I am currently writing a game to pay my debt to the buyers of the
game, and not for myself. If I had any choice in the matter, if I didn't
have several pre-orders hanging over my head, i would have trashed the
game long ago. So I plan to create a decent game, but please don't ask me
to spend an extra six months or even six weeks adding features that will
put this game passed my initial deadline. i just want it done and over
with.

Cheers.

Willem wrote:

Hi Thomas.

I think you are not viewing the whole problem of randomising the
appearance of monsters.

If a player enters a room, he would be standing on the floor, right. Or
if he would jump and land he would then be on the floor. So you would
have the Y coordinate automaticly and wouldn't have to randomly find it.

Also if the door is opened, a check could be made if there would be a
monster on the other side of the door and if so, what kind. And if the
player walks past certain points, triggers could be set off to spawn some
random monsters.

That is just my humble opinion.
Willem.

[Audyssey] BlinkNation is dead.

2008-11-13 Thread James Homuth
Just thought folks might be interested, since it's come up on this here list
a time or 6. After sending me and a couple others I know emails to confirm
our subscriptions, keeping in mind none of us subscribed, I went to see
exactly what it was I was supposedly confirming. As it turns out, I wasn't
confirming much as their web host has apparently pulled the plug. Now, if
you go to blinknation.com, you'll see a page placed there by Blinknation's
web host, hostgader, telling whoever maintains it to contact them. Just
thought people might like to know, just in case they actually subscribed to
this thing.

Hi Ryan,
MS Dos hasn't shipped with Windows since Windows 95. However, Windows XP
does have what is called the Windows command prompt which will run
several older Dos applications. To access it just press the Windows
Key+r and type command. Press enter on ok and you will get a command
prompt in order to type commands.
Now, I really do feel like an old fart. You younger kids really have no
idea what using computers were like say 15 years ago when Dos was the
only thing we had. Windows had just came out, butJaws for Windows,
Window Eyes, etc didn't exist yet so we happily typed commands all day
long. It might do everyone some good if they could learn about the
Windows command line, formerly Dos, ec as it still comes in handy these
days for some older games and programs.

Re: [Audyssey] Games for blind children?

2008-11-13 Thread dark

Hi chris.

what age of children?

if their really young, ie, 3-6 you could try
http://wwwx.cs.unc.edu/~gb/wp/research/hark-the-sound/

vip gameszone have some games for older kids, as do 7-128. if the kids are
older you could try Mudsplat, a game aimed at children, I also here
that the american printing house for the blind games such as Armadillo army
and termite torpedo will do for children, you can find them at
http://sun1.aph.org/tech/index.html

you could also check the audiogames.net index under educational games,
but again that'd depend on ags.

If their old enough, ie somewhere over 8, , generally mmost audiogames,
especially the simpler arcade style ones like Troopanum, super deakout or
the lworks short games might be worhth investigating, though obviously
games like shades, or hunter would be a bad idea!

Hth.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

And wasn't there a snake that would bite you and start a similar
situation? I've been lucky a time or two and found the kit in advance. I
just tried to get Louis's version, but when I ran it I got some kind of
basic error. Anyone know what that might be about?

There's a windows version of the great escape on braille soft.
I have that version.
That's the first text adventure I played on the apple computer. I'd

I also remember lemonade stand, apples, space invadors, dragon maze,

Exactly four years after the first public release of Top Speed 1.1,
an updated version of Top Speed 2 is available for testing. Top Speed
2.1 has some bug fixes compared to 2.0 aswell as some minor new
features:

 the menu has been rearranged
some new sounds, tracks and cars
 more realistic physics model
support for custom tracks in multiplayer Known issues:
In the menu, two sounds won't be playing simultaneously anymore,
except in the local internet game selection menu, where this issue
 can still occur.
The ReadMe contains some 'empty' sections. This will be fixed in the
 final release.
Sometimes the game crashes when you leave the assign keys section of
the options menu The X-Sight Interactive TS2 Utility Pack also could
contain some bugs or problems. As this pack isn't a product of
Playing in the dark, you can send your bug reports or questions to

from Ducktail Games for the programming assistance. A special thanks
to Damien Sadler for contributing the TS2Pack. Also a thank you for

Note: This is a release candidate version, which means that the game
could still contain some bugs and issues. Please mail your bug

You can also go into the programs, then accessories, and it is in there,
called command prompt. After your work in the DOS environment, or as close

How could you remove command prompt from xp? If you are on your desktop,
press alt + r. Then type cmd. It should open a command prompt window,
whitch is windows's way to run dos programs.

If this doesn't work, then there is a problem with your command prompt.

 Hi Ryan,
MS Dos hasn't shipped with Windows since Windows 95. However, Windows XP
does have what is called the Windows command prompt which will run several

older Dos applications. To access it just press the Windows Key+r and type

command. Press enter on ok and you will get a command prompt in order to
 type commands.
Now, I really do feel like an old fart. You younger kids really have no
idea what using computers were like say 15 years ago when Dos was the only

thing we had. Windows had just came out, butJaws for Windows, Window
Eyes, etc didn't exist yet so we happily typed commands all day long. It
might do everyone some good if they could learn about the Windows command
line, formerly Dos, ec as it still comes in handy these days for some
 older games and programs.

As this pack isn't a product of

from Ducktail Games for the programming assistance. A special thanks
to Damien Sadler for contributing the TS2Pack. Also a thank you for

Note: This is a release candidate version, which means that the game
could still contain some bugs and issues. Please mail your bug

 Hi to Will,
Perhaps you could join the classroom yourself and learn a bit of english
grammar.

Perhaps once you graduated you would know what a run on sentence is.
Perhaps after that, you could move over to the manners and etiquette
classroom and pick up a few pointers.
Perhaps after that, you could go out and contribute something to the
community instead of standing back and taking cheap shots at someone that
is doing work benefitting others without a dime to show for it.
Perhaps if people patted the backs of those that donate their time to
help others out, instead of jumping on them for insignificant mistakes,
this would be a better world.

 Perhaps...

Hi Ryan,
MS Dos hasn't shipped with Windows since Windows 95. However, Windows XP
does have what is called the Windows command prompt which will run
several

older Dos applications. To access it just press the Windows Key+r and
type

command. Press enter on ok and you will get a command prompt in order to
type commands.
Now, I really do feel like an old fart. You younger kids really have no
idea what using computers were like say 15 years ago when Dos was the
only

thing we had. Windows had just came out, butJaws for Windows, Window
Eyes, etc didn't exist yet so we happily typed commands all day long. It
might do everyone some good if they could learn about the Windows
command

line, formerly Dos, ec as it still comes in handy these days for some
older games and programs.

Re: [Audyssey] Daus

2008-11-13 Thread shaun everiss
all versions of windows have dos on them.
from ww95 to xp, its just emulated in the xp and up systems, well 2000 its
emulated and in win me its emulated.
The last full version is 6.22, but there is dos 7 floating around somewhere.
I wouldn't install it on your primary partition, unless you want to use a fat
16 edrive dos7 is all you can use, and if you have a fat32 drive you can use
dos7.
If you have no idea what I am talking about chances are you don't have either
of these.
If you want dos you can use dosemu on linux I suppose or the command line
thingy.
there is also dosbox although I have personaly not used this.
