not nil. There is a big difference to a programmer.

2008-12-11 Thread Patricia Neubert
Hi, well I'm not actually new because I was on the list about 98 or so. I am
thinking it was this one any way.

My name is Yvonne; I live in Tennessee. I use to play on a mud a long time

text adventure games. I have been reading through the archives and the
posts to rediscover all about gaming. Now I am ready to go play.

Hi,
Yes, Sryth is accessible. It is a web based RPG game and all you need is
a screen reader and a web browser of your choice. For example, I play
Sryth using Window Eyes 7 and with Mizilla Firefox 3.04, and it works
fine. There are plenty of Jaws users that play using jaws and with
internet Explorer 6 and 7.

[Audyssey] Pdf gamebooks and a suggestion

2008-12-11 Thread dark
Hi.

Back in the 80's, various gamebook magazines published small adventuresl, ---
using the ff system.

thanks to fandom, and a chap called outspaced (you might have come across his
work on ffproject, or pproject.aon), these are all available in accessible text
pdf, rather than horrible scanned image file pdfs.

so go, grab and enjoy.

http://outspaced.fightingfantasy.org/

Seeing these and other text gamebooks does make me wonder if some programming
type person could write some sort of utility to make searching and playing
these much easieer than having to resort to ctrl F in whatever program your
viewing the files with.

Perhaps something that would automatically search for all the numbers in the
text, eg, section 1, and would create a list box used to jump betwene
them? (links would be cool of course, but not possible I think in a generic
text file reading program).

how the program could distinguish betwene section numbers and statistics for
characters and enemies I'm not sure, unless someone physically could mark up
the text file to tell it which numbers to ignore, probably easier than
telling it which numbers to mark.

It could also contain with a property sheet outside the text file for recording
character information.

Anyway, I'm not a programmer, it was just a thought.

All the best,

Dark.

Hi Yvonne.

Welcome to the list.

i'm a huge fan of text adventure games and gamebooks as well, --- and am
also a big Sryth player (I saw your previous message, but I use Hal so am
not certain).

Please see the gamebooks and interactive fiction catagories on
audiogames.net for details, especially Project.aon, the Chronicles of
Arborell and Fighting fantasy project and age of fable.

Eamon delux is another old text adventure rpg type game which I've been
playing recently, and is proving fun now I've found ways for it to work.

Hope you have fun here and find lots of games.

I also agree about learning to use screen readers and windows. I wouldn't
have found out half as much about navigating weerd screens in Hal, mucking
about with file directories or what Sapi was without playing games.

All the best,

Dark.

Some years ago, I had a copy of Michael Feir's Sparkle on my computer, but

am wondering if anyone has this particular game still, and if so, if that

I've not heard of this game at all.

If someone does have it, maybe one of the people who hosts such things would

I can also then create an entry for it on audiogames.net.

is the better option rather than using the http links as these often have one
of the stupid word varfication thingies.
Thats what happened with yahoogroups.
I always manually subscribe.
IAnd darn to the mods who expect one must sign up via the web interface.
I do mail the mods though in case so they know.

Feel free to post bugs, suggestions, and feedback there. I'm planning on
releasing a new test version this weekend. Once the new file is ready, I'll
post to the Entombed mailing list to let everyone know.

Thanks!

Re: [Audyssey] jedi quake

2008-12-11 Thread shaun everiss
well if audioquake is loaded
you need to just run the .qmod file.
then you can choose it from the mods menu.
I have edited the autoexec and mod .cfg files in the mod folder once installed
to customise my preffs.

a note to all on that.
the tbrn system seems to have gone through a crash, so stuff is only just
coming up.
right now there is no page up for jedyquake just files for things most of
which do dissapear when things go away.
I think www.tbrn.net/modgirl/index.htm does work but not sure.
Some files form different places I go to for other people's stuff are missing
to.

[Audyssey] A Few Questions: deekout and the game pack

2008-12-11 Thread Ken
I'm writing all this in one e-mail so I don't end up sending two or three.
First, how can you play Super Deekout with Vista? I keep getting a message
about needing DirectX 8 or higher and I have 10. I tried setting the
compatability mode and running it as admin, but nothing. Any ideas?
Second, I've almost completed work on my games pack for the PM, which works
with 4.1 and presumably Omni as well. I've decided go the route of Wrecking
Ball and make it donationware rather than freeware. All these games are at
least relatively accessible. Some games, like the chess game, don't have
graphics for blank squares until you move a piece off of a square, and I don't
know how to make the display show and synth read that squares are there. What
I did was to set up the advanced key to cause the arrow keys to move the mouse
directly, like shift alt arrows on the PC, and, having determined the correct
number of pixels to move, scripted that as well. Another game, Daleks, uses
similar methods. It's the only arcade game that is even somewhat accessible to
the PM. I have also refurvished some graphics files for games in the old pack
such as NetHack, and added a collosal sound pack which only slows the game
slightly, only noticeable at the beginning of the game when the sounds are
loaded. Feedback as how to fix these problems, other games you think might be
made accessible and so on would be welcome. I'm currently working on a
freecell clone--but no promises--the layout is a bit odd.
