Re: [Audyssey] Eamon question
Hi. You need to select the text version of the main hall (obviously the graphical one is inaccessible). To do this, go to the utility menue (7th option on the list), press down once to highlight the appropriate option, then enter. check your settings written at the top of the screen for details (it'll say which version of the main hall your running. Hth. Btw, Personally I'm not keen on the pre-installed characters, they're mainly used for testing peoples dungeons so have some really unbalanced stats, pluss you just can't! have a hero called leasure sute frank or bill of accounting, it's just wrong! I suggest talking to the Irishman or using the character editer to start off with your own personal new character. Beware the Grue! [Audyssey] Eamon question
Hey all I decided to give it a go and see what it was like. I've kept in mind to alter the bos file replacing the 40 with an 80, and that you might have to hit alt and enter to work with the window. I'm having some issue though right off the top when attempting to begin an adventure. I'm able to go to the desk, select a character, and then I'm told to have fun in the hall and hit any key to continue. That's where the trouble is. I hit the space bar and nothing changes. it won't take me to the main hall, what am I missing? I imagine it's something simple but can't quite figure it out. Re: [Audyssey] Eamon delux great fun!
Hello. I'm really sorry, Eamon has been under discussion for a while now on the list, but obviously having just joined you wouldn't have come across it, I should really have thought of that. No, eamon isn't a mud (I don't myself really know much about or play muds, but that's another topic). It's a text adventure and rpg system originally created in the 1980's for Aple computers, with literally hundreds (about 250 I think) of different adventures written for it over the years by many people. Eamon Delux is a pc port which comes with many, possibly all, the adventures. you can read about, and download it at at http://www.eamonag.org/pages/eamondx.htm As I said, I'm well impressed with the game thus far, however there are a few things you need to do to get it to run properly and interact with a dscreen reader ssmoothly: 1: unfortunately, Eamon delux starts of is in a dos style console window, and begins running fullscreen, at which point a screen reader can't interact with the window, so you'll need to press alt enter to get it back to a doss window again. You'll probably have to do this whenever you go back to the main hall or start an adventure, but the rest of the time things will be fine and it doesn't cause trouble as long as you know it's needed (you'll probably have to do this for the initial installing process as well). 2: The main hall, where you buy weapons and spells and from where your character can go on the various adventures, by default runs a graphical, and consequencially inaccessible version. You'll need to go to the utilities menue when you've installed the program (7th option on the main menue), and select the second option there which will use the text version of the main hall. 3: irritatingly, running in a window, some text will be chopped off the screen. Thanks to Steven for letting me know, this is however easily fixable. Open the eamondx.bas file with notepad and change the line: Screen 0width 40 cls colour 4.0 To read width 80 (I suggest just finding the word width with ctrl f and changing it to 80), and all text should appear fine. Then, just have fun! imho Eamon is a really nice mix of combat and interactive fiction style puzles, and has a rather interesting experience system. I also like the fact that you take the save character on multiple adventures and get experience with them in weaponry and such, as well as earning lots of gold. anyway, i hope this helps. Re: [Audyssey] saving in Sryth
ou can save in any location marked Safe. Isially the main squares of most towns, cities and villages are Safe, although sometimes there are exceptions. Look at the part of the screen immediately above the game's description for each location. If you see Safe that means you can rest and save there. - Original Message - From: "Patricia Neubert" To: Sent: Wednesday, December 17, 2008 9:01 PM Subject: [Audyssey] saving in Sryth Hi dark, sryth is cool but one problem. At the top of each screen is a section number. When you see that that section number has the word "safe" before it, then you can save and rest there, it's that symple. Even with this though, the carrying capacity on items is just frankly irritating, especially as dropping items seems mildly annoying. Then, I really! wish there was a way to simulate the old verbose command in Z code if, Ie, providing you full room descriptions everytime you enter a location, not just the first time. while I admit the "first time only" rule is a great help in working out if you've been to a location previously, it'd be really nice to have a toggle for when your searching around for secret passages or ways through certain puzles and want the full room description just in case you missed something. then, while some Eamon adventures seem to have a distinct exit, the ones that don't can seem a litle odd, the first example of course being the beginner's cave. Hi Chris, Last time I checked all of the Lighttech games were written in Visual Basic 6. As has been said many times and in many messages on this list previously Visual Basic 6 applications aren't really that compatible with Windows Vista and are less so on the Windows 7 beta from what I have been able to tell. You can force compatibility but it is putting a bandaid on something that needs stitches. My personal advice is if you have a Windows XP computer keep it around to play your accessible games on, because the problems with VB programs and Vista aren't going to get any better. They are only going to get worse as new versions of Windows are released. Re: [Audyssey] Entombed Version
the latest is 007b. but you are right we really need to list version info somehow. saying that you can rename the file yourself. its probably easier for jason to upload a replacement of the setup. after all he would have to delette the old file and stuff t save bandwidth. Re: [Audyssey] Entombed Version
Hi. Your better of checking the forums or the entombed mailing list for that sort of information. The most recent version is actually 007 C, ggo and download it. one primary advantage of not including version names in the file name is I don't have to keep updating the audiogames.net pages, so you can just download it streight from the audiogames.net database entry for entombed as well. Hi Bryan, Yeah, one can run my games without the game menu program, but as you said the game menu system sure makes it easier. Plus now with Vista not having the VB6 library files it is even more important to install the winkit file.
