The problem with them Milos, is that even if you could find them, they
don't work on Windows XP. I have KM 2000, but I can't get it to work on
XP, so I can't play it!

day's music off, but I was able to turn it way way down so at least I can hear
what's going on, and actually the music is pretty cool in that game I gotta say.

Hi Lora,
Smile. Well, Windows Vista is a completely different case. As I have
mentioned on list several times before Microsoft is doing quite a lot of
house cleaning on Windows Vista, removing older technology support, and as
a result a lot of software you own may not work on Vista. Microsoft is
also introducing a lot of new technologies that is probably the way of the
future for Windows users.
For example, alot of gamers here aren't too happy to buy a Windows Vista
system and discover that several VB 6 libraries to run their favorite
accessible game is missing. They have to understand that fundimentally to
a programmer Visual Basic 6 anything is very very old technology. Those
Visual Basic 6 dll files were released in 1998 for Windows 95/Windows 98
era computers. From a software development point of view those dll files
are 10 years old, and are extremely ancient. Microsoft has began removing
them so that Visual Basic developers will begin porting their VB 6 apps to
VB .NET which is fully supported on Vista. As a result it is likely going
to be a while before a lot of companies, especially small accessible game
developers, get updated to the Vista platform and standards.

Lora wrote:
I agree that it's generally a good thing, but you just never know
anymore.

After all, I've heard that things that work with XP no longer work with
Vista.

I'll be glad to see my Pacmate. It feels like it has taken forever, but
they've actually been very quick about returning it, I'm just impatient.
Hopefully I'll have it before New Year's Eve.

[Audyssey] Windows 7 gaming was gamebooks of Arborell

2008-12-29 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Trenton,
Yes, I have. I did manage to get ahold of the Windows 7 early beta and
things are not looking too good for the majority of accessible games.
The Windows 7 beta release I tested did not ship with any VB 6 support
at all natively. That means the majority of the accessible games out
there from GMA, Jim Kitchen, BSC, L-Works, DanZ Games, and so on are not
going to work out of the box with Windows 7. I'm sorry to say unless
those developers are willing to put the time and money into going to
something like VB .NET. Those games are going to be difficult to get
running on Windows 7, and you basically have to force a full VB 6
runtime install on there and hope it all works when Win 7 is finally
released.
On the bright side those developers who have walked away from VB and are
using .NET technologies should be good to go. Rail Racer current demo
worked fine on Windows 7 once you installed a copy of the managed
DirectX libraries and .NET Framework 1.1. The 3D Volocity game by BPC
Programs also worked ok. All of the USA Games products are being made
Windows 7 ready. Beyond that have fun installing and fiddling with VB 6
libraries trying to get them to run properly.

Trenton Matthews wrote:

Hi Trenton,
Yes, Draconis Entertainment is beginning to upgrade all of their games

Hello Ari,
Basically, you have a Braille display connected to a PC, which is hooked up
to and/or runs the karaoke lyrics. The lyrics are sent to the Braille
display in the same manner printed lyrics would be displayed on a screen. I
saw this at CSUN, and it was pretty effective.

Yes Bryan, time adventures works also on Vista.
But as code factory don't sells it any more and the game is on cd, you
don't have any chance to get it.
Maybe a member on this list is willing to sell it to you milos...
Regards,
Claudio.

Re: [Audyssey] Code factory games

2008-12-29 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Yohandy,
That is a very good question. Hopefully someone will e-mail Code Factory
and let us know there intentions regarding their old games. If it is ok
with them to pass the games out I don't have a problem with it. If they
don't want anyone to do this then I absolutely have to close down this
thread.

Smile.

Re: [Audyssey] Windows 7 gaming was gamebooks of Arborell

2008-12-29 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Shaun,
I know. I use Winkit all of the time for fixing the broken VB 6 installs
on my Vista system. The point I was trying to make is by and large
Microsoft has cleaned out most of the libraries that most audio games
need by default. I think it is possible to get them running by tracking
down the missing dependancies and installing them on Windows 7.
On the other hand the pre-beta copy I have installed on my test box
looks promising in other areas. Some say it runs faster than Vista, but
I put the system requirements generally about the same. If you have an
up to date 3 GHZ system and 1 GB of Ram running Vista Windows 7 will run
great on that box. Install it on a 1 GHZ system with 512 MB of RAM and
it runs, but not as well as XP under the same conditions. Though it is a
slight improvement over Vista.
The big change my wife tells me is the graphics technology looks a lot
smoother and natural. It also does cool things like making other windows
invisible when you open a new window. Instead of that stupid sidebar
seen in Vista the gadgets are now on the desktop and are actually easier
to get to with Window Eyes 7.01.
The thing I really like about the Windows 7 pre-beta is I can fully
customize the heck out of user account control. Under Vista whatever
settings MS gave you were pretty much stuck with. They finally listened
to somebody and now you can configure your security level for user
account control to let applications and other things through that Vista
won't let you do. One of them is allowing games to save to their install
directories instead of locally to your user account. Amen!

well the winkit zipfile jim kitchen has has most of what you need.
I have the complete vb6sp6 runtimes on me to.
I also have the complete sapi 5.1 systems to, though realspeak has everything
to.

Hi Trenton,
Yes, I have. I did manage to get ahold of the Windows 7 early beta and things
are not looking too good for the majority of accessible games. The Windows 7
beta release I tested did not ship with any VB 6 support at all natively. That
means the majority of the accessible games out there from GMA, Jim Kitchen,
BSC, L-Works, DanZ Games, and so on are not going to work out of the box with
Windows 7. I'm sorry to say unless those developers are willing to put the time
and money into going to something like VB .NET. Those games are going to be
difficult to get running on Windows 7, and you basically have to force a full
VB 6 runtime install on there and hope it all works when Win 7 is finally
released.
On the bright side those developers who have walked away from VB and are using
.NET technologies should be good to go. Rail Racer current demo worked fine on
Windows 7 once you installed a copy of the managed DirectX libraries and .NET
Framework 1.1. The 3D Volocity game by BPC Programs also worked ok. All of the
USA Games products are being made Windows 7 ready. Beyond that have fun
installing and fiddling with VB 6 libraries trying to get them to run properly.

Just wait til Windows Seven comes out.
Not liking the results for it. By the way, I hear the Windows Seven start up
sound is quite strange.

the blind friendly games out there yet?
