Thanks, sounds interesting. Is this version of the game based on version 1.6
on the sourceforge site? How would I go about playing the game offline, once
I've downloaded the modified version from your site?

Subject: [Audyssey] Devana info

Strategies for Devana.

Devana is a web-based civilization like game of strategy and conquest
(should you choose to go that route)
When you start on devana, you're basically starting with nothing. You need
to build a town, build it up, and defend it from enemy attackers (or become
an enemy attacker) if you so choose.
First things first.
To start building your town, click on towns, it will bring up a page
allowing you to create a town. Name it anything you like, and click create.
That'll get you started.
The game allows you to select your position on a map, but other than terrain
positioning, there's very little need to worry about where you are
physically located on the map for the most part, so don't worry about that
piece.

After you have your town created, you'll need to do several things.
First, you'll want to click on your city hall (each faction calls it
something different, but it's the only building you start out with when you
begin, so it's easy to find)
Select the town hall, and you will then be able to set taxes, and build
additional buildings to enlarge your town.
Now, the FAQ and guide indicate that you should build your granery, sawmill,
quarries and iron foundries first.
This is certainly an option, but I recomend another approach.
First, upgrade your city hall to level 2.
This does several things for you.
First, it increases your gold maximum value, allowing you to have as much as
1000 gold on hand for building, and it also decreases the amount of time it
takes to build other structures, as well as giving you a head start on some
of the requirements for other structures you'll need/want to build later.
Once you have your town hall at level 2, you can then begin building other
things such as your grain fields, saw mill, stone quarries and iron
foundries.
With the town hall at level 2, these structures will build slightly faster
than they otherwise would, giving you a slight advantage over other players
who didn't go this route.

However, since this is a realtime strategy game (for the most part) it won't
afford as big an advantage as you might think, since you need to wait for
the structures to finish being built before you can upgrade any of them to
begin producing additional resources.
However, every little bit helps, so that's why I mention it here.
Now, the single most sought after resource in your early days of devana is
gold.
I highly recomend after you upgrade your town hall, and before building your
other structures, or perhaps after you've built a couple and gotten
additional resource production going, is to max out your gold collecting
abilities so that you'll have plenty of gold for building structures to get
you started.
You do this by clicking on the town hall, and setting your tax rate. It's
shown as a percentage, which is slightly misleading, since it's not really a
percent, but more a flat rate, but you'll understand why it's called a
percentage later on.
To max out your gold capacity in your town, change your tax rate to 210
percent. (that's right, raise it to 210 which is the max it can be set to).
This will max out your gold in less than 5 hours realtime.
When you reenter the game, you should find that your gold is now at
1000/1000 (assuming you upgraded your town hall to level 2, otherwise you'll
only have a capacity of 400 gold, in which case, setting your tax rate to 20
percent will max it out in the same amount of time, since you begin with 300
gold.

Now, after you've gotten your 1000 gold, it's time to reduce the tax rate to
something uusable that will not only allow you to regain used gold from
building your initial structures, but will replenish your resources as well
(since no resources are created when taxes are more than 100 percent).
Set your tax rate to something around 20 percent or so (you are of course
free to choose any number you like, but I've found that 10 to 20 percent
seems to work best)

Then, make sure you have all four basic resource types created, grain
fields, saw mills, stone quarries, and foundries.
You'll also want to upgrade at least 1 of each of these items to level 1 to
generate additional resources. You are of course free to upgrade more than
one resource in each category to further increase your resource generation,
since the more upgrades, the faster things get created.

After all that's done, you'll want to upgrade your town hall further, and
build housing for your citizens.
You only have a limited number of things you can build when you begin. By
default, you can have a maximum of

Hi Shirley,

You are driving around an oval track, so there are two left turns. So mostly
you will use the left arrow key to steer around the turns. If the crowd sound
is getting louder in the right speaker, hold down the left arrow key. If it is
getting louder in the left speaker let off of the left arrow key.

I do have an mp3 file of me driving around the track and jumping one bus. I
can send it to you if you wish.

I've never seen this behavior.
I've started a new town as well to test this, and I'm not seeing this problem.
What was your town name, and how far did you get before logging out or closing
the browser?
It shouldn't matter what you do to exit, either log out or close browser, it
will time out eventually anyhow. Did you actually create your town?
In any case, logging in again shouldn't be a problem either.
What exactly is the url you're using to access the game?

I don't know what the problem is, but with enough info, I'm sure we can fix it.
Email me directly since it's not really list related, and we'll see what can be
done to get you up and running.

[Audyssey] devana info

2010-02-02 Thread Travis Siegel
This version is based on version 1.6.2 (which at the time of writing) was the
latest version. There's also some custom mods to make it work better with
screen readers (such as the under construction icons when buildings are being
built) but otherwise, it's identical to the sourceforge version with the
difference being. I've added title and alt tags to all graphics, and indicated
what level buildings are using said tags (the original did not do this, and it
was difficult to tell what buildings needed worked on, and which ones you could
leave alone for a bit) and a few other things to make it work better for screen
reader users. However, this did nothing to change the usability of the game by
sighted users, so everyone is equally welcome to play.
If you want to play the game locally, you'll need a machine that has both mysql
and a web server with php support installed. Otherwise, you'll need to play on
the web. It's a web-based game, but that doesn't mean it can't be played
locally, it just takes a bit of setup first.
It's more fun to play online though, since you get more competition. Of
course, since it's opensource, anyone is welcome to modify it as they see fit,
and host it anywhere they like.
So, if you're looking to have a complete game running on your web host, then
this may be the one you're looking for. I've actually considered basing a
space-building game on this one, but I had to finish making this one accessible
first.
I did switch browser versions partway through my upgrading, so some items may
not have alt tags, but they do have title tags. If anyone has trouble
determining what something is, let me know what your browser version is, (this
won't work with base lynx, since it uses javascript for some of it's
functionality, but it will work with some versions of lynx that have been
modified to have js support.
The game is written in php, and uses mysql for the backend (though come to
think of it, I think I forgot to include the forum sql structures in my zip
file, so will have to repost)
But, if you like building type games that only take a few minutes a day to
play, then this game is your kind of thing.
If not, then you may want to give this one a pass, as it takes a good deal of
patience to actually get anywhere significant once you get started.

It depends on what your definition of accessible is. You can use it, but if
you want JAWS to read what people say to you automaticly, you'll need to
modify it with another program, called mIRC Speech. I'm not sure off the top

sounds, music etc as much as possible and leave the soundtrack all the way
up. so if this solo sounded louder to you than the official song, this is
why. Apart from this, I think it all comes down to figuring out the timing,
memorizing how your part is supposed to sound, and then going on practice
mode and play the song section by section at 50% speed. there's also some
common sense involved. in all rock band games I've played, the charting for
notes and chords doesn't change randomly, unless of course the song has
around 50 chords lol. if you played a green note for the first section of a
song, and another section has you play that same note, then usually you'll
play the same green note. so in the case of the final countdown, the button
patterns for the various groups of triplet notes is always the same, unless
some notes change or are added/removed. if you're playing on expert, you
pretty much play every note as the musician intended the song to be played
on a real instrument. for lower difficulties things slow down a bit. medium
is more like playing half notes for example. I'd also be interested in the
methods other people use. we could all definitely learn something new from
each other!

Only just had a chance to check this out, nice work man!
Yup, I'd be up for learning it if you'd be up for posting the rest of
the tutorial. I'd also be interested to know more about your process
for figuring parts like this out, should think we all have differing
methods.

however since this could take a while I'm sending this file first so you

it or are interested in how it's played before I waste a bunch of time
working on the re-recording of the tutorial. Also please note the fact
I'm

not able to use line-in on this laptop for now and I'm using the built-in

don't mind the quality I'll be glad to re-record it. Here's the file.

you want JAWS to read what people say to you automaticly, you'll need to
modify it with another program, called mIRC Speech. I'm not sure off the top

It would work with WE, very likely. You can use it without the speech, but
it will require you be able to review the screen--probably with the WE

Hi Brandon,
That isn't a problem. The server has no idea that you want to play in
the same game as your friend. You need to join the game she is in. The
reason it tells your friend that, is because there is no one in her
game. You should be able to find more about this in the readme files.

I really hope you all are enjoying this game. We have over 1000
registered players. If you haven't already, grab your free copy at

Thanks.

Hi Brandon,
That isn't a problem. The server has no idea that you want to play in
the same game as your friend. You need to join the game she is in. The
reason it tells your friend that, is because there is no one in her
game. You should be able to find more about this in the readme files.

I really hope you all are enjoying this game. We have over 1000
registered players. If you haven't already, grab your free copy at
www.rsgames.co.nr
Thanks.

2010-02-02 Thread Brandon Misch
well, what if you're already in a game and your friend is and you join in on
the browser version and your friend hits enter. for some reason. my friend got
the message saying that she couldn't play the game with herself but i was in
the game on the online version.

[Audyssey] freeware game soundtrack

2010-02-02 Thread shaun everiss
hi all.
this is a shaddow warrior patch for cd audio.
its a freebee from 3drealms.
However either because of a oversite on the author or the fact they don't seem
to actually care all the files are in unencripted ogg vorbis.
its free.
a friend I have found it.

Thanks man! before I try explaining, a small correction. this song's in
Lego Rock Band, not Rock Band 2. woops. I'm so used to playing rock band 2
I always refer to that game. it is possible to export lrb songs to rb2,
and there are quite a number of good songs in lrb disc, so you guys should
buy it regardless if you own a console and are into music based games. Now
as for the way I learn songs: First thing I do is if what I'm trying to
learn is difficult to hear on a particular instrument, I turn down the
background sounds, music etc as much as possible and leave the soundtrack
all the way up. so if this solo sounded louder to you than the official
song, this is why. Apart from this, I think it all comes down to figuring
out the timing, memorizing how your part is supposed to sound, and then
going on practice mode and play the song section by section at 50% speed.
there's also some common sense involved. in all rock band games I've
played, the charting for notes and chords doesn't change randomly, unless
of course the song has around 50 chords lol. if you played a green note
for the first section of a song, and another section has you play that
same note, then usually you'll play the same green note. so in the case of
the final countdown, the button patterns for the various groups of triplet
notes is always the same, unless some notes change or are added/removed.
if you're playing on expert, you pretty much play every note as the
musician intended the song to be played on a real instrument. for lower
difficulties things slow down a bit. medium is more like playing half
notes for example. I'd also be interested in the methods other people use.
we could all definitely learn something new from each other!

Only just had a chance to check this out, nice work man!
Yup, I'd be up for learning it if you'd be up for posting the rest of
the tutorial. I'd also be interested to know more about your process
for figuring parts like this out, should think we all have differing
methods.

Cheers
Scott

This is part of my final countdown 100% notes hit tutorial on rock band

the section where I try explaining which colors to press didn't come out
all
that great and sounded rather confusing, so I'm considering re-recording
it.

however since this could take a while I'm sending this file first so you
guys can listen to the solo, and consider whether or not you wish to
learn

it or are interested in how it's played before I waste a bunch of time
working on the re-recording of the tutorial. Also please note the fact
I'm
not able to use line-in on this laptop for now and I'm using the
built-in

mic, so take that into consideration. if you guys like what you hear and
don't mind the quality I'll be glad to re-record it. Here's the file.
