I'd love to see it done, and I know zmud does something very similar. Zmud's
gagging, though, leaves quite a bit to be desired.

Hi,
Interesting point you raise there. I believe part of the solution would
be allowing Vipmud to use regular expressions for matching. This might be
straying slightly off topic, but I believe it's important to get the idea
out there anyway. With the right kind of regular expression support you
can ignore those line breaks and match those particular kinds of combat
messages fairly easily. Just a thought, in case anybody with more
programming knowhow than I is reading this or is interested.
Beyond that, lots of text is right. I'm already getting used to it and
don't have a custom forged weapon yet.
Thanks for your insight,
Zack.

On Mon, 2 Aug 2010, Ryan Strunk wrote:

Here's the major problem with that: you really can't have many.

The drawback about running simu games with vipmud is that simu games--at
least in vipmud--break every 80 characters or so. Since they put in that
hard line break, it means your triggers--which themselves depend on line
 breaks--won't fire properly.

 Example:
Your broadsword lands a devastating hit to the goblin's left leg.

This trigger will work perfectly. No problems, no troubles. You could set
up
a trigger based on *devastating hit*, and all would be well. Why
devastating hit? Because hits range in scope from grazing to
apocalyptic,
and you'll definitely want to know which you're hitting with and which are
 hitting you.

However, as you straddle that line between newbie gear and custom-forged
swords, you'll see something like this.

Your gleaming steel broadsword with cross-shaped guard and upswept hilt
 lands a devastating
hit to the goblin's left leg.

Big problem there, and there isn't a thing you can do about it. Because
the
line break happens right between devastating and hit, your devastating
hit
trigger won't fire off. You could always trigger just the word
devastating, but then what happens if that word shows up in some random
description somewhere? It is possible for your character to land a hard
hit, but if you trigger off * hard * then you'll get the trigger sound
every time the pants have been worn by hard use or the road has been
packed
 hard by centuries of travel.

The other drawback, aside from playing sounds, is that you also won't be
able to properly gag combat text off of anything reliable. When you're
fighting five grass eels, and they're attacking every round alongside you,
and you're trying to keep an eye on your health, something will fall
apart.

There is no way, unfortunately, to solve this problem with the mechanics
of
vipmud or from within the game. I have read through the documentation more
times than I care to count, I have bugged the hosts in game, and I have
written to David Greenwood about it. If you're set on playing with vipmud,
you will definitely want to get used to lots of text or partial gags.

When I used to play simu games, back before finances dictated otherwise, I
used a plug-in for Zmud that someone had cobbled together. I don't believe
I
have a copy lying around anymore, however, and I would rather not name the
developer who designed it lest he get bombarded with emails. If he is
reading this, though, and is interested in picking up the development
again,
I'm sure he would find a larger market than he did previously.

I don't mean to rain on your parade with all of this, and I sincerely hope
you can prove me wrong. Simutronics games are some of the deepest and most
advanced muds I have ever played, and I would love nothing more than to
see
them made playable with vipmud. However you go, though, good luck.

 Best,
 Ryan

[Audyssey] Problem loading saved games in AudioQuake

2010-08-03 Thread Tobias Vinteus

Hi,
(I sent this before, but with a screwy subject line, so that people might
have thought it was spam. I apologize for that:)

When I try to load a saved game in Audioquake the foloowing error appears:
sz_getspace: overflow without allowoverflow set (0).
whereupon the game crashes.

Can you get around this error somehow, or is there a patched engine you can
download. I have installed the latest engine from the Agrip homepage. I have
also posted this question to the Agrip discussion list, but haven't yet
received any answer there.

Thanks,

[Audyssey] Spoonbill Software's Blind Gamers Crossword

2010-08-03 Thread Charles Rivard
Puzzle

Document Source: Fred's Head from aph.org

BG Crossword Puzzle allows vision impaired and blind players to solve Crossword
puzzles downloaded from the Internet. As with all Spoonbill Software's Blind
Gamers games, it is self-voicing, no need to use your screen reader. For the
benefit of vision-impaired players, the crossword is presented in the normal
crossword grid format. In addition, the answer words and the clues are
displayed in two lists which can be navigated using the arrow keys on your
keyboard. This pair of lists can be maximized to fit your screen allowing the
words to be more easily read.

Blind players also use the arrow keys to move up and down the list of words and
clues and can use the W key to speak the current word, or the C key to speak
the current clue. By default the across words and clues are presented first.
You can switch to a display of the down clues by hitting the D key on your
keyboard, and back to the across clues by hitting the A key.

There are many helpful features to make solving crosswords a pleasant
experience.

May we suggest that you follow the Tutorial when first starting up the program?

Re: [Audyssey] Fw: competetive street fighter

2010-08-03 Thread Tom Randall
Hey this sounds great. Will be keeping an ear out for when this is gonna
happen. I am always interested in learning more about these games. I am
strictly just an ok player, I do not have huge amounts of time to sit around
and play these things, but when I do it is awesome!

As a lot of you know I've been into mainstream games for a long long time
and I gotta say these new ones absolutely rock. I frankly wasn't sure how
this was going to go when I started getting back into modern mainstream
games with the psp, the games seemed quite difficult and the menus
comparatively complex compared to the old systems. Also I do not
consistantly have sighted assistance around to learn to play these things.
Despite these few negatives, we have many things to add to the plus side of
the ledger, mainly improved sound quality, and I agree that the
streetfighter titles, ssfiv is the one that I have experience with, have
excellent audio cues.

Regards,

Tom

I'm wondering, would anyone be interested in learning the more competetive
aspects of street fighter, and how to improve your game? I don't claim to be
a master player, but Yohandy and myself are both quite proficient. At least
yohandy is. Don't know about me. But such stuff would include stuff like how
to use your focuss attacks, the different combo types in SF, and character
tips. Would anyone be interested? Because such a conference, over something
like team talk or skype could work, if enough people are interested. What do
you guys think? I'd be more than happy to teach what little I know, and I'm
sure Yohandy would be too.

Puzzle

Document Source: Fred's Head from aph.org

BG Crossword Puzzle allows vision impaired and blind players to solve
Crossword puzzles downloaded from the Internet. As with all Spoonbill
Software's Blind Gamers games, it is self-voicing, no need to use your
screen reader. For the benefit of vision-impaired players, the crossword is
presented in the normal crossword grid format. In addition, the answer words
and the clues are displayed in two lists which can be navigated using the
arrow keys on your keyboard. This pair of lists can be maximized to fit your
screen allowing the words to be more easily read.

Blind players also use the arrow keys to move up and down the list of words
and clues and can use the W key to speak the current word, or the C key to
speak the current clue. By default the across words and clues are presented
first. You can switch to a display of the down clues by hitting the D key on
your keyboard, and back to the across clues by hitting the A key.

There are many helpful features to make solving crosswords a pleasant
experience.

May we suggest that you follow the Tutorial when first starting up the
program?

Re: [Audyssey] Grisley gulch

2010-08-03 Thread dark

yep, I've finished gg on both easy and hard.

In terms of gun fights taking a while though, I never noticed that as a
problem myself, in fact the gun fights can be reasonably challenging on hard
if you speed up the game, it's F11 I think to speed up, F10 to slow
down and F12 to reset the speed.

I do wonder though, if they are really taking 20 minutes, if the game is
hanging on you. I've noticed that this happens unless I download and use the
patch from bavisoft which fixes the problem. it's on their site in the
downloads section.

Hi I'm really trying like mad to complete this dratted game, but am
seriously put off by the intermonable gunfighting scenes taking about 20
minutes to complete, then once that's over those rattlesnakes come along
and the whole process starts over again. Someone said the f12 key is
supposed to spead things up a bit, but I've tried that and nothing
happens. I'm using a laptop and my numlock is on so don't know why it's
not working. It's a serious damper on the game I think, has anyone
actually completed it?

if you mean by word searches looking for complete words in a grid of random
letters, that's exactly what bg boggle and bg word targit are, though the
rules for both games are mildly different.

If you like that sort of thing, you'd probably enjoy both games.

spoilers ahoy! Just stop reading when you have enough information.

You first need the frog unfortunately. Once you've got it, take it to the
church and use it on the lady playing the Organ. use one of the potions the
professor gave you (I think it's the stinky one but I could be wrong), with
the frog. then use the frog on the lady again, and she'll run away.

you can now play the organ accept it breaks, so go and see bill the hermit
and give him the other potion, he'll give you a book in return which you can

take to the library in order to fix the organ.

then, go back to the church and use the book to fix the organ. Now, go to
the pet shop and give the parrot a peanut, he'll whistle a tune. Go to the
church and play that on the organ which will cause a door to open.

Go into the graveyard and you'll find a coin, take it and throw it down the
well. You'll hit someone stuck down there, so use the rope in order to try
and get them out. the rope will be too short, but not if you tie it to the
leesh, ie, use the rope with the leesh. Use that on the well and you'll pull

the chap down there up, and he'll give you a key.

go back to the graveyard and use the key on the crypt door. A panel will
open and you'll have to play a guess the code game (rather like guess the
number), with the panel (you can hit F5 if your stuck, but imho it's not
that hard).

then, go into the Crypt and you'll find a hammer. Take it back to the town
square and hit the bell three times with it, where upon the statue will give

you another key.

Remember that map you got from lilly's house early on? go to the forest near

the big tree and follow the directions, ie, n = north, e = east etc. Then,
when you have got through that, use the key on the lock of the gate.

then, enjoy the , interesting ending.

Hth.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.
