[Audyssey] starfighter patroll

2011-02-14 Thread shaun everiss

Hi.
Ok the game sounds real good.
there are a few things.
1. sounds for the fighters not the boss but the regular fighters are
to low the pitch is can you adjust it also the cool explosions when
fighters and bosses are hit needs to be a bit lower as does the ion
cannon sound.
the switch is just the standard switch if that can be changed with a
starwars or whatever switch that would rock.

Hi Dark,

Back in the nineties there were FidoNet echos (mailing lists) named things
such as NFB Talk, Blind Talk, Blink Talk etc, and of course there was the
Blink Link BBS. Those were the places along with the Audyssey magazine
that we shared knowledge about and the accessible games. So blink is not

Hi Muhammed,

Uh, no. Entombed can't be run on Mac unless there is a major update I
don't know about. It uses a number of Windows specific dependencies
such as Microsoft XNA Framework, Microsoft Sapi, etc that is
absolutely not available on Mac. Where did you get the idea that it
did run on Mac OS?

If you are talking about running it on a multiboot or virtual machine
it can be done, but that's totally not what we are talking about. We
are talking about games that play native on Mac OS without virtual
machines etc.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Super Egg Hunt 1.3 is here

2011-02-14 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Liam,
Great new version!
I do have some suggestions.
When I reach the edge of the field, and hit the arrow key to go further I
don't hear anything.
It takes me a press or two to confirm this while the chicken gets closer and
the time flies by.

I would like a bumping sound.
The clocks change pitch if they are above you or below you. I would like the
same effect on the chicken.
And when the games tool kit gets mouse support I hope you will add it to the
game.

Thanks,
Phil

Our most popular game just got a face lift!!! In super Egg hunt, your job
is

to collect as many eggs as you can before the timer runs out. Run through
the
field picking up egg after egg. Watch out for Mr. Mcchicken who'd like to
take a few pecks at you. Pick up clocks to add more time and freeze the
chicken.
Grab enough eggs to activate the boost mode to leave that chicken in your
dust. You can also send your score to our server. Compete with gamers
around
the world to prove you have Super Egg hunt superiority. This game is fun

I don't have the game yet, but I found a video of the main menu plus
the selection screen... and a friend of mine was kind enough to write
these out. Enjoy... there's an empty line between each main section,
and the character selection screen should be the same for all modes.
However, it is missing four characters, which are the locked ones. I
will endever to figure those out when I get the game on Tuesday.
Also, there are assist types, which come after character selection

Hi Muhammed,

Uh, no. Entombed can't be run on Mac unless there is a major update I
don't know about. It uses a number of Windows specific dependencies
such as Microsoft XNA Framework, Microsoft Sapi, etc that is
absolutely not available on Mac. Where did you get the idea that it
did run on Mac OS?

If you are talking about running it on a multiboot or virtual machine
it can be done, but that's totally not what we are talking about. We
are talking about games that play native on Mac OS without virtual
machines etc.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] looking for some help.

2011-02-14 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Muhammed,

Short of calling you an idiot let me explain what is wrong with your
logic here. Entombed is a Windows product, written specifically for
the Microsoft Windows OS, and will not run on Apple Mac OSX natively.
So how do you get it to run on a Mac computer? Simple, you install a
copy of Windows OS on the Mac using VMWare, Fusion, etc so Windows
will run side by side with Mac OS. In order to run the game then you
have to shutdown the Mac, and reboot into Windows. That's how you get
Entombed to run on a Mac. You still need Windows installed using a
virtual machine, IE side by side with Mac OS, in order to run Windows
applications and games on a Mac. You try and install Entombed on there
without first installing Windows on there it absolutely will not work.
How do I know this?

Let's see. Entombed is written in C# .NET. While there is a .net
framework for Mac, Mono, there are some major technical differences
between Mono and Microsoft .NET. Unless you write the app specifically
for Mono the product will probably not run cross-platform in the first
place.

Entombed uses the XNA Framework. It is a strictly Microsoft product
used to wrap DirectX 9.0C, 10, and 11. In case you haven't noticed Mac
OS does not have DirectX or XNA. They have their own game APIs.

Entombed uses the Microsoft Speech API, Sapi, which is also a Windows
specific technology. No, Mac OS does not use Sapi. Apple does have
their own Speech API which apps like Voice Over use, but it is not
Sapi. So again Entombed would have to have a major rewrite to support
the Apple Speech API. So try and use a little common sense here will
you?

So to be clear the information on the website you tried to show me of
proof is no proof at all. It is correct, but your personal
interpretation of what it says is wrong. My guess is you don't know
what he means by VMWare, Fusion, etc since you don't use a Mac, and
don't have a clue about what you are talking about here.

HTH

Heh I know it is, however gief's attacks are so powerful that even if a few
don't connect, the ones that do will do so much damage that it won't matter
much in the longrun haha. The standing HK will work, but gief is a pretty
slow character over all, which is why I'm always trying to cover up the
distance with his specials before doing anything else. up close is pretty
much the only way gief can be effective. I could always keep using double
lariots to cover distance fast, but I don't like using those much due to the
abuse potential. I could just keep using them immediately upon wakeup and
you'd be doomed lol. I think it's actually worse than Ryu spamming.

Depends on what you want help with. Everything you said about moving
behind and shocking with sudden attacks doesn't usually work since
the game is always in motion and attacks are almost always coming
out. Baiting is a good trick, where you fool your opponent into
thinking you're going to do a certain move but then you turn around
and do something completely different.

Hi,
Not to be rude or offensive, but my name is actually spelt. M u h a m m e

I could understand the confusion, seeing as many languages start with
Mohammed. Sorry if it came out as rude, but it wasn't my intention... A
few

daies I had a fight on that on the GMA games list about that. Thanks.

Mohamed? What kind of proof is that? You are trying to prove to the
dev that his game will run on a Mac when he has not even released it
for that platform? That isn't running on a Mac! That's running in
windows that is installed on a Mac! It's not the same thing.

Hears the evidence. Read below.
Entombed can be run on a Mac if it's virtualized through VMWare Fusion

Hi Muhammed,

Uh, no. Entombed can't be run on Mac unless there is a major update I
don't know about. It uses a number of Windows specific dependencies
such as Microsoft XNA Framework, Microsoft Sapi, etc that is
absolutely not available on Mac. Where did you get the idea that it
did run on Mac OS?

If you are talking about running it on a multiboot or virtual machine
it can be done, but that's totally not what we are talking about. We
are talking about games that play native on Mac OS without virtual
machines etc.

Cheers!

I have a mac games page on my softcon mac pages at:
http://www.softcon.com/mac/
You'll find ports of mostly text-based games there, but I think I posted my
chopper port there too,
though I'm not sure about that, I'll go check shortly.
But, that's a good place to strt.
and as it says on the site, if you have suggestions for other things to port,
feel free to drop a line, and I'll see what I can do.

hi phil, the chicken does also get the pitch changes. you probably don't

Hi Liam,
Great new version!
I do have some suggestions.
When I reach the edge of the field, and hit the arrow key to go further I
don't hear anything.
It takes me a press or two to confirm this while the chicken gets closer
and the time flies by.

I would like a bumping sound.
The clocks change pitch if they are above you or below you. I would like
the same effect on the chicken.
And when the games tool kit gets mouse support I hope you will add it to
the game.

Thanks,
Phil

[Audyssey] Consoles (was Re: my frustration with the blind gaming comunity.)

2011-02-14 Thread Travis Siegel
Speaking of console games.
Would there be any interest in a console built with the blind gamer in mind?
I have access to something that could easily be turned into a console with
games built from scratch that could easily be played by blind and visually
impaired users.
There would be games like asteroids, space invaders, and the like.
(yes, all your old favorites) built for a console, and completely accessible.
I could do this, but I'd have to know there would be an interest for such a
thing.
The consols would cost roughly $200, and the games would be on cartridges just
i like the cartridge systems out there now.
And, a developer kit could be sold so others could develop games as well.
It would plug into your tv, (not your computer) but it would be a true console
system, and would be as acessible as I could make it.
With the cost of the initial console and programming hardware and such though,
it couldn't really sell for less than 200, and even then, I'd only be making
$31 on a sale, which really isn't much all things considered.
But, I'd do it if there would be an interest in such things, as I believe it
would be a great thing to have a console system we could play ourselves.
Anyone else interested?

It would be a start toward having something sort of like what sighted people
are using, although these titles are quite old. Like I say, though, it
would be a start. I know it would be too early to probably know, but what
about hardware and software updates to make the console able to be played by
both blind and sighted gamers on an equal basis? The games for sighted
gamers would be far in the future, and, by that time, we would still be left
in the dust. Even so, I think I would be interested, particularly in sports
games, trivia games, and strategy games that are totally blind friendly.

Ok the game sounds real good.
there are a few things.
1. sounds for the fighters not the boss but the regular fighters are to low
the pitch is can you adjust it also the cool explosions when fighters and
bosses are hit needs to be a bit lower as does the ion cannon sound.
the switch is just the standard switch if that can be changed with a

Hi.
This message is in reply to a couple things.
1 licencing for things.
Not sure how much it would cost if at all for someone to licence
stuff for a console or so.

ON the subject of our standard console, I am not sure if it would go ok or not.
pcs tried to make something called a game station ages back and
nothing happened with that.

2. darin the starfighter game was real good.
But could you turn down the winning and losing sounds a bit they clip
the speakers loads and are really distorted.

thanks otherwise for a good game.
THe switch sound is good and movement is good to.

console with games built from scratch that could easily be played by
blind and visually impaired users.

There would be games like asteroids, space invaders, and the like.
(yes, all your old favorites) built for a console, and completely accessible.
I could do this, but I'd have to know there would be an interest for
such a thing.
The consols would cost roughly $200, and the games would be on
cartridges just i like the cartridge systems out there now.

And, a developer kit could be sold so others could develop games as well.
It would plug into your tv, (not your computer) but it would be a
true console system, and would be as acessible as I could make it.
With the cost of the initial console and programming hardware and
such though, it couldn't really sell for less than 200, and even
then, I'd only be making $31 on a sale, which really isn't much all
things considered.
But, I'd do it if there would be an interest in such things, as I
believe it would be a great thing to have a console system we could
play ourselves.

Anyone else interested?

2011-02-14 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Shaun,
You brought up the PCS game machine. Carl built a prototype in 1998 and we
showed it at the blind convention.
It was a stripped down DOS computer with a 200 mhz processor CD drive, no
hard drive and two speakers.
We were going to sell it for about $300 including the 8 CD games we had
produced, but the plan fell through. Carl's supplier only had a few of the
boxes and parts left and

wanted too much for the next higher speed processor.
You put the game CD in the drive and it booted off a floppy which contained
all your high score files and game saved files.

The eight games were,
Duck hunt,
Snipe Hunt,
Space Invaders,
Breakout,
Red Dragon Kick Boxing Challenge,
A 2 Z Key Search
Pac Man, the DOS version,
and Mobius Mountain.
At the time we wer charging thirty dollars for the CD versions, which would
be $240 if purchased separately.

This is what I remember, but I may have gotten some of the details wrong.

Re: [Audyssey] 2 birds

2011-02-14 Thread shaun everiss

phill how was the game station made.
Point is could we turn a standard system into a game station with say
a standard flash drive and the cds.
What system did the game station stuff run on and what special
software do we need.

My point is.
Can a standard system be turned into a game station.
In theory it shouldn't be that hard.
We would need the following.
1. either dos or linux with a screen reader the latter probably better.
the disk with the stuff in.
A standard flash drive for stuff.
Or just have the stuff run off windows.
If all it is is a program called game station then we could do that
simular to an emulater.
If its a chip or something, make that be able to run on an usb device
or as a usb device and that would work.

Now we all should have computers.
Flash drives are cheap I have flash drives the user can buy these.
So except for what is needed for the station and maybe the cd and
even these could be downloadable as images or files, then have stuff
run on them maybe even have it able to run of the flash or something
then the system would be rather cheap.
1. user would need a standard flash drive or a specially modified
flash that has the games in one part so no one can hack it and the
other part for settings.
Then have it either run on windows as an emulater and maybe
optionally boot into linux with a distro disk for the game station
thing maybe base it of vibuntu where you have all the packages and
you could really do that.

What over the standard system made the game station the game station.
If its not much then we are quite there.
I may even have a system that no one wants I could convert into one.

Nope. Most of those games are made by companies who are at least
somewhat well-known... invincible tiger, Shank, Castle Crashers, etc
are all games that are made by studios who might not be well-known
but at least have fifty to a hundred people in them. Invincible tiger
was published by Namco, as a matter of fact. And a lot of remakes and
whatnot come from the original companies... bionic commando from

2011-02-14 Thread shaun everiss

there was 1 payed album and a couple on mediafire I couldn't get.
Everything else was free.
Well free on the site.
I went over bandwidth so it cost 14 dollars to my isp for the stuff.
For around 4000 files of clear game music it was worth it.

Definitely going to look at it... do they download directly off the
site? Or do they bring you to somewhere else?

 Hi.
Ok the game sounds real good.
 there are a few things.
 1. sounds for the fighters not the boss but the regular fighters are
to low the pitch is can you adjust it also the cool explosions when
fighters and bosses are hit needs to be a bit lower as does the ion
 cannon

sound.
the switch is just the standard switch if that can be changed with a
starwars or whatever switch that would rock.
