Hi, Agreed. If he charges for his games, which he does, he should at least support them via e-mail, phone, and so on but it seems he has gone the way of Bavisoft. Just closed down, doesn't respond to mail, and ignores any and all requests to update etc. Definitely a bad way to run a business. On 9/22/12, MamaPeach wrote: > They are definitly not supported. Hi, This computer had Vista on it before, so I'm thinking it's going to be fine for running Windows 7. But I'll have her check the processor before she goes ahead with the installation. As for my issues with user account control, I don't know. Hi, What's the error you get? It sounds to me like a missing dependency of some sort. Most compatibility errors are solvable by figuring out why you are getting the error in the first place. Re: [Audyssey] So which audio games don't work with 64 bit systems?
Hi Desiree, Yes, your sister should be able to figure out your processor type, speed, cache etc simply by looking at the bios. She's going to have to check your system requirements anyway because you can't just slap Windows 7 on just any old machine. Windows 7 needs a faster processor, more memory, and a better video card than XP just to start off. As for User Account Control I've used Jaws 13 just fine with UAC so I'm not really sure where you are coming from when you talk about not having speech etc. I've not had that problem with Jaws 11, 12, or 13 on any Windows 7 computer I've used. Jaws is fully UAC compatible so it doesn't have to be turned off for Jaws sake. Are you running an out of date version of Jaws? As far as differences between 32-bit and 64-bit it isn't an issue of better graphics. There are a lot of differences under the hood such as how much ram it supports, what size hard drives it supports, how big the files are it supports, and things like that. Its not necessarily something you as an end user will notice, but there are technical differences to be aware of. For example, the 32-bit version of Windows 7 will only recognize up to 4 GB of ram. That is pretty decent for the average user, but let's say you want to handle a number of virtual machines or something and put in 8 GB or 12 GB of ram. You'll need a 64-bit version of Windows 7 which supports up to 128 GB of ram for that. As I said something like that isn't likely to effect the average user, but could be important to some people. I have tried running them after setting compatibility wizard and I continue to receive errors each time. Can't figure out why. I played these games on a WindowsXP machine running service pack 2 but setting the compatibility wizard to that will not let me play them. -Original Message- From: Dallas O'Brien Sent: Saturday, September 22, 2012 6:13 PM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: Re: [Audyssey] So which audio games don't work with 64 bit systems? they should in fact run, but you will probably have to play around with compatibility settings and so on. also, any program that is a 32 bit program should run under 64 bit windows 7, if you give it the right settings, and as said before, download and install things like vb6 runtime libraries and all that. and yes, if your processor isn't 64 bit, you won't be able to install windows 7 64 bit to it at all. it will not let you. however, in saying that, all mainstream CPUs for about the last 4 to 6 years have been 64 bit. and this is a good time to change over to 64 bit, as from all the info we have, the next version of windows, that is now under development, will be 64 bit only. not 32 bit in any form. so a lot of programmers are going to have to start coding programs in 64 bit, and stop this 32 bit stuff. and of course, 64 bit programs can't run on a 32 bit machine. so the sooner you can get on to 64 bit, the better, as it offers the most widest range of programs, including games! Re: [Audyssey] So which audio games don't work with 64 bit systems?
Hi Thomas, You know what, to be honest, I dont know about the processor. Is there any way my sister can check that, maybe in the bios, before she reformats? Because as of right now, the computer completely refuses to start. I think it has a virus. That's good to know that most of the games I would want to play do in fact work. I'm guessing that there really isn't much of a difference between 32 and 64 bit systems, then, besides improved graphics and performance. But I definitely did plan to turn off Uac. As you probably know, Jaws won't work with that at all, and its very annoying. So you have to play the guessing game even when you try to disable it since that dialog comes up and Jaws doesn't speak, so you kind of have to tab and hit buttons until you turn it off, which you won't know until you're returned to Windows anyway since you have no speech during the process. Re: [Audyssey] So which audio games don't work with 64 bit systems?
Hi, I wouldn't worry about it too much. The majority of audio games will work fine on a 64-bit version of Windows 7 provided you install dependencies. As you might know by now Windows 7 does not come with Visual Basic 6 so that has to be installed before you play any games, but you can get that by simply installing Jim Kitchen's Winkit setup. The other thing is you should disable User Account Control as that will likely cause older games and software to crash which hasn't been updated to be UAC compliant. That said, I have played all of Jim Kitchen's games under Windows 7 such as Life, Monopoly, Baseball, Football, etc and haven't experienced any issues provided I made sure to install all the files to c:\Program Files (x86)\Kitchensinc rather than c:\Program Files\Kitchensinc. I have also had no problems with the Draconis games. I've successfully played Alien Outback, Dynaman, Monkey Business, and ESP Pinball Classic. So those games will work as well. Basically, most games will work. If you find one that doesn't ask here on list and one of us Windows 7 64-bit users will help you figure out the problem and hopefully get it working. Its not really a big deal unless it is a really old game which was compiled for Dos such as Aemon Delux which is simply not compatible with 64-bit Windows because it was compiled for a 16-bit OS. Now, one last note. Does your desktop have a 64-bit processor? The reason I ask is if you have a 32-bit processor you must upgrade to a 32-bit copy of Windows 7. If you have a 32-bit processor and try and stick a 64-bit copy of Windows 7 on their you are boundf to run into issues. So just make sure you get the correct version of Windows 7 for your hardware. Hi, yesterday was my birthday, and my sister said she would fix my desktop, which has been down for several months, and that in order to do that she would have to reformat. So, she bought a copy of Windows 7, and unfortunately, all they had was 64 bit. So I need to know what the deal with running audio games and 64 bit Windows is, since I really didn't think I would have to do this, but I'm not really complaining since it was a nice thing for her to do. Anyway, I know that games like Grizly Gulch and Chillingham won't work, and I hear conflicting things about whether Kitchensinc games will work. But what about older titles that maybe were around in the Bavisoft era, such as Draconus games, or or the games like Crazy Darts and Win Fight that were around then? And, if these games aren't compatible by default, is there some way that I can get them to be? Any help would be appreciated. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Jim Kitchen's football error help
I had tried that before and I didn't hear the percent sign but still got the error. Re: [Audyssey] Games for kids
hmmm tom, never really played with sighted in mind. I am not a mainstreamer or a consoler. sonic zoom and last crusade and teraformas are the only ones that come to mind and the blind eye. Some of the experimental games to. Though there is a thought. eamon and its deluxe game would be playable though they are old dos games. jims dos games would also be playable as they are text. I have silent steal. The only game I have had some success with are the lego starwars and lego games and not to many. abes odyssey on ps1 is also playable to some point. I know there are hardcore sport and fighting game fans on the forum. There is swamp though not sure about graphics to much. there may be others I just don't know them. Its possible that the kinect xbox 360 games would be playable. I have also played buzz which does have some audio and a lot of visual text on the screen. I am not a rockband guitar hero, dance jam music jam dance central or other fan but all those including the guitar hero and the singstar series can be played. I had some success playing xmen vs streetfighter and as well as that some other junk. Unfortunately I lost a lot of audiotapes in a major throw away move ages ago. The only game I played with any success was dragon ball z and sango both on emulators and ages ago in the dos and win95 days. I basically bashed my keyboard till it broke not knowing what things were. I occationally got it right but I was never a fighter. Her question was if there were any games her son could play that were A, accessible, and B, could be played with his sighted friends. I'm assuming by her post she is asking about mainstream PC and console games rather than strictly audio games which have no graphics and are totally designed for a blind gamer's use. The list you gave her was totally geared for a blind gamer only. So I'm not sure how helpful it would be since it didn't really answer her question.
