Ahh but I'll end this with this point and say no more about it: I never use a rail and never will, as I always have friends there to guide me. -Original Message- From: Gamers [mailto:gamers-boun...@audyssey.org] On Behalf Of Charles Rivard Sent: 03 February 2013 23:01 To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: Re: [Audyssey] weii bowling cannotbe playedindependentlybytheblind- Re: Accessable gamesfor theplaystation three. I guess I want more than a lot of other people when it comes to accessibility. It is true that blind people need sighted help when at the bowling center. Making sure that the rail is correctly set, telling us the remaining pins after the first ball, and so on. But if I know the result of each shot, I keep my own score on an abacus so that I know how I'm doing. When I was on a sanctioned league, I carried a 110 average. No bumpers were used. But I did my own aiming by using a bowling rail. I would want at least that much from any game I play. -- If guns kill people, writing implements cause grammatical and spelling errors! - Original Message - From: Clement Chou chou.clem...@gmail.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Saturday, February 02, 2013 10:23 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] weii bowling cannot be playedindependentlybytheblind- Re: Accessable games for theplaystation three. Fair enough. But I guess the mindset I have is that when I play games, I almost always play them with other people... console games are just more fun when there are friends around. By that definition, Rock Band isn't accessible either, since you can't know how much you got for points and whatnot at the end of a song. But everyone has their own opinion, I guess. I just grew up on console games so it's never really mattered that much to me. I've always believed that if I could access most of the features of the game, then as far as I'm concerned it's accessible. Though to be quite honest, I never really liked sports games anyway... for things like bowling especially. I'd rather participate in the real thing, like going bowling for real. - Original Message - From: Charles Rivard wee1s...@fidnet.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Saturday, February 02, 2013 6:49 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] weii bowling cannot be playedindependentlybytheblind - Re: Accessable games for theplaystation three. To me, it does matter than I cannot know the remaining pins or accurately aim, and what's the point of bowling if you don't know your score frame by frame? While bowling is a sport that is more fun with a crowd, I enjoy it as a challenging game of skill, and if skill cannot be used, or the results cannot be known, I'm not satisfied with the game. To me, useable feedback is being able to accomplish the tasks given above with no sighted help. A good example of a good bowling game is Tenpin Alley from www.draconisentertainment.com It gives the feedback I need to enjoy a game of bowling, plus, others can play as well. [Audyssey] Re: Blindness United: Was: You Don't Know Jack for iOS
I agree. And it's because the deaf are united. I don't want to hear about how expensive something is from a developer's point of view. Yes, it's a forty thousand dollar patch, but that's a patch coast, not a blindness cost. Don't make mortal kombat accessible. Don't give Skyrim features. Focus on the future, not on the past. Develop the Cetera 3d sound positioning algorythm. Look up 3d sounds if you have an iPhone. It's amazing how much surround sound can be done with only two speakers. That helps everyone. It's stuff like that. Don't old-school new games. Make them better. Sell it to the devs. Don't give me what is frankly an entirely bogus answer about market shares and cost ersus benefit, and I'm not singling anyone out with that, just that I've heard it so many times that it is becoming an excuse that someone got spponfed and now they're sharing the drooly nasty glop off that spoon with the rest of us. If one thing doesn't work, try another. If someone's kids want to have other people to talk to about blindness, I get it. I was born blind. My four wee bairnes are gonna grow up with me being blind, but I know that they're gonna have a hard time sometimes accepting it. I want this stuff for us, I just don't know how to make it happen.Help me! It's worth it! I think it's discriminatory that there is close caption on DVD's, blue rays, games, TV, and even iPhones. Deaf people with kids even have support groups for their kids, but there are no support groups for my son or darter. I think it hit them harder when I lost my eyesight. The hardest part about that is when my son or darter cries to me that they wish I could see again. Just so I can do the things I use to do with them like playing video games with them. Truly James -Original Message- From: Dakotah Rickard [mailto:dakotah.rick...@gmail.com] Sent: Thursday, February 07, 2013 12:44 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] You Don't Know Jack for iOS It isn't that I demand accessibility for every app. I am more than familiar with the concept that some literally cannot be made to work. What strikes me as a problem is the fact that some apps, which are inaccessible, could be made accessible with just a little extra effort or knowledge. It isn't that I'm saying Gimmy more, more, more! I think, frankly, that the best way to handle accessibility would be a forward-looking approach. We could sit and complain, and I have done on a couple of occasions, about how an app doesn't present accessibility features, even though it could, or how a game doesn't present certain functions, added at little expense or effort, which would make it a perfectly playable mainstream game. Rather, I think the solution is to inform developers about other, better ways of making games accessible. The deaf community, united, brought us Closed Captioning, which gives a printed readout, on the screen, of any dialogue. That is widely made available now, because of gentle, long-term pressure. The deaf community, united once again, is now pushing for captioning of sounds as well as dialogue. This is because they have already established a bit of what they want and, rather than saying We're satisfied. We should not ask for more. They said We have something nice, and the mainstream population also benefit from it. Let's see if we can get an additional feature which would be brilliant. I suggest that the blind community, when it is united, doesn't know what it wants and certainly doesn't know how to ask for it. I respect the efforts of the people who have tried, and I know that what I'm saying may come out as offensive, but the plain fact is that developers who learn about audiogames would probably be highly turned off by the amount of beeps, blips, whistles, and clicks that they might have to incorporate. Smaller developers, again I mension Ernest Woo, want to squeeze every penny out of their apps, so they'll push for accessibility, if you sell it to them the right way. The right way, is according to myself, and as I said before, if I had any incling of how I ought to do it, I'd start an organization on that point. There's certainly a right and a wrong way, maybe several of each, but I'll put it this way. The Wii Sports game's menus are accessible, because they are simple. If you remember where things are, you will be in pretty good shape. Wii Fit's menus are not inaccessible, but they are less so, because they wrap around without making a sound to indicate it, so if ever you lose your place, you're up the creek

H Alan, Thanks for posting this, I only came across this game thanks to one of your posts about it a few months ago and think it's a brilliant game. It comes with KeyWasFull's new Tomb Robber series, an updated version of his Conquering RedWall Abbey series, and an updated version of Allan Thompson's One shot wonders / Zombie House. And of course my old getting started maps and an example map demonstrating the new items and equipment feature. Some of the highlights of 1.12 have been: random damage and chance to hit, scripting, random sounds, more customizable teams, the new rounds and turns system, effects that cause initial damage or healing just as skills do, effect modifiers that apply to a specific skill rather than all skills, items and equipment, and quite a few smaller but worthwhile features. Hi Paul, I am glad you like the game. I just build maps here and there myself but whether playing or creating a map it is a blast. Unfortunately, you have to download the whole game over again. With the maps included it can be a bit big. Perhaps I could pull my map packs out of the one I downloaded and I can post the link to the new release from send space, it would be a smaller download I imagine. Let me know if you want me to do that. The email list Ian set up is also a good place to start for map creation. Everyone is pretty helpful, and Ian does a lot of developing in between releases that gets playtested and the like. al The truth will set you free Jesus Christ of Nazareth 33A.D. - Original Message - From: Paul Lemm To: 'Gamers Discussion list' Sent: Monday, February 11, 2013 4:54 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Tactical Battles 1.12 release update --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] Games effect on the visual systems
Hello, I am not sure if this is completely game-related, but I guess this is in a way, since the way the game is built might have an effect. Recently I was involved in a heavy discussion on visual cortex stimulation, and I was wondering if stereo-panning within games in three-D could actually evoke the visual representation that an object is to the left, at around sixty degrees, five feet away from you. In audio games, we generally pan sounds to have blind people train each side of their ear to follow the source of the sound, whereas in video games, the object tends to flash on a certain area of the screen. So I am wondering if there is somewhat of a connection between the awakening of the visual system and just playing stereo-related games without realizing that there is more behind it. -Alfredo --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Blindness United: Was: You Don't Know Jack for iOS
Dakada I do agree with you on principle. But however bogus the thing about market and cost vs. benefit has to be taken into consideration. Whether we're united or not, developers won't do it if there's no reason better than just because a bunch of people want it. And while I believe in this cause, I think there are way more important things the blind community could be a lot more united about. Getting back on topic though... I do agree that something needs to be done. But frankly... I'm not quite sure how to go about doing it either. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Hi Christina, I've seen lots of ads come up for games using the 3.5 system too, so I'd be curious to look through what you have, if you don't mind sharing. I don't know anything about Pathfinder, but it's always fun learning about new games and worlds, and I always am running across ads for Pathfinder games, so it must be fairly popular. I don't have a lot of RP-related books, and not a lot of money to buy them, especially not knowing if anything I did buy would be accessible, but if anyone else knows of good sources to check, I'd be curious to know. Re: [Audyssey] Accessible DD material.
I am currently in possession of the newest iteration of Fate, which was a free role playing game, but which has now been taken over by Evil hat Productions, the fine people who brought you the Dresden Files RPG and Spirit of the Century, a game for playing pulp adventures such as would be found in the league of Extraordinary Gentlemen, the Shadow and so forth. They had a kickstarter campaign that went berserk, raised over $400,000 and will be funding Fate and its expansions for a couple of years to come. My point in all this is that I would be willing to run a Fate game on line for interested parties. Fate is a universal game system, a la GURPS if anyone else remembers that game from the eighties, so I would be able to run almost anything from high (or low) fantasy through swashbuckling, horror, noir, urban fantasy, Cyberpunk, and many other SF tropes. If folk are interested and willing to play over Skype or some other chat service, let me know. I'd be looking for from three to four other players. I got a similar error, but, on the download page, they also offer the download for the visual C runtime, and installing that sorted it out for me: http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/D/8/5D8C65CB-C849-4025-8E95-C3966CAFD8AE/vcredist_x86.exe Stay well Jacob Kruger Blind Biker Skype: BlindZA '...fate had broken his body, but not his spirit...' - Original Message - From: Christopher Proß chpros...@gmail.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Monday, February 11, 2013 11:32 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Tactical Battles 1.12 release update hi oh sorry. but thanx for you ansver. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Games effect on the visual systems
Not necessarily relevant either, but, I am also on that other list, and, for example, I tried out audioQuake, turn on graphical interface, and then tell the vOICe to render the GUI interface, to then try get more detail about environment, but, this was a while ago. -Alfredo --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. wow, I would be interested in this and any other free games by the company that made them. due to life and other factors I can't garentee i would be avalible to play over skype at the same time. however I'd like to know where I can get a coppy of the game then I could play it myself. if the game could be played with internal chat or something fine. if I could play over a teamtalk then fine maybe. I however couldn't run at a spaciffic time of day since in the us its all night time I'd have to play or at weird day time hours. but I'd like to all the same. I have a lot of material that I believe I got from PCS Games website somewhere, for their campaigns. I'm not sure if the material is still available for download, if the campaigns are still being run or how much of the material would be of any use since I don't know what version of DD it's based off of, but if it isn't still up on PCS games I would be willing to send it to you somehow if you want it.
